Clearly, the hole was just from the same cat pawing the door for hundreds of years.

I get it! A friend adopted an overweight dog once, whose previous owners let free feed on cat food. Getting her to a healthy weight took a while, and everyone wants to share pet pics.

Thanks for linking to that! Interesting. I refreshed their page and they have more to say now that it's happened.

I can't say I've ever really liked a controller, so I never experimented with fancy ones. The one that was the most fine was the ps controller. the joycon was ok until drift kicked in. The xbox controller made my hands hurt after too long. I think if I'd had more xbox games back then I would have gotten more into controllers to find one for my tiny hands. I mostly prefer a keyboard.

An old lady I worked for with dementia got scammed on facebook by people who sound like this. I was inclined to hate the scammers for targeting the disabled, but, holy shit. Those poor people.

Shadows of Doubt - Release Date Announce Trailer (September 26th v1.0 and consoles) (www.youtube.com)

This one’s been in early access for a while, but it’s finally hitting 1.0. If you’re unfamiliar, it’s a procedurally generated murder mystery immersive sim. A murder happens, you scan for evidence, track people by their address in the phone book, and make connections with red string yourself. When I played the demo a...

I had a fun time playing in early access, even with the bugs. I should check it out again when it hits 1.0. I recall generating a new location and immediately falling through the ground to my death and deciding i would wait a bit to play more.

Is it lemmy.world? There's a typo that threw me off in the link.

aesthetically, it reminds me of 'going under,' but the corporate visuals were the point in that one.

The guy in charge was having medical and personal issues. And doesn't seem to have access to everything at the moment. It's a bummer, and I hope things get better for him, but that's how projects like this go sometimes.

He urgently consulted a plastic surgeon who said that even with surgery to repair the finger - and the long recovery time - it may not regain full function.

Honestly, it seems like a pretty logical decision. Lots of people would opt for amputation in that situation, I think, even without factoring in giving up a lifelong dream.

celeste ,
@celeste@kbin.earth avatar

True! I think I'd go that direction, too. But I can imagine someone else being like "nerve pain sucks and it's just a finger" about it.

I just think the option was between two different surgeries, neither with an ideal outcome, not between just waiting for it to heal and amputation, so it's not as silly a decision as it first seems.

"Alba: A Wildlife Adventure" jumped to mind. I don't remember it being long or difficult, but I had a nice time.

Fishback declined to comment for this story as the nudist values his privacy.

I respect someone who knows what he's cool with sharing, and what he wants to keep private.

Yeah, but one strategy against christian attempts to force themselves into schools is to have a number of different religious organizations request the same right.

I remember when a relative still had a feeding tube they were leaving in just in case and he accidently yanked it out. I believe we put paper towels and blue tape over it and he called the doctor. the doctor was like 'oh it's self sealing it's fine' and my relative was all 'doc....please look at it...' so we took him in and he got a proper bandage and told it did in fact look fine.

This poor florida man....

Does anyone have a link to a source on the age of the kid? I'm wondering if I'm missing it. People keep saying she's 17. Was that in one of his edits?

How do I cope with the Steam Community?

I go to Steam regularly to play my games, usually posting simple screenshots of my game sessions. But when I go to the communities I see Internet videos, GIFs, memes, and memetic everything and it’s not really my thing. I even posted on Lemmy that I didn’t like memes in general and what do they post on here? It feels like...

celeste ,
@celeste@kbin.earth avatar

I enjoy memes sometimes or whatever, but on steam I barely interact with community features other than occasional questions on the forums. I don't feel like I've lost anything not interacting there.

I think of memes as like internet smalltalk. It's a way of saying you exist so other people can be like 'I exist too!!' which loosens things up for deeper and more interesting conversation. It's not everyone's thing, though.

I don't follow communities that are just for memes on here so I mostly look at my subscriptions when I'm not in the mood. I think you should just avoid what you don't like and don't worry about it.

I remember when it first came out to "mixed reviews" a lot of people said they were planning on mods finishing the game and making it fun for them.

The one I still feel guilt over was a time when i found out someone had left an animal trap loaded when they left for vacation. There was a live raccoon in it. I know I shouldn't've carelessly opened it, but I should've done something. Even killing it would've been kinder. I carry that one with me, to remind me to act when I can. I'm still bad at it, but I try.

The other day I told a customer I could smell gas in her apartment, and even though I feel like a dumbass because it wasn't a leak (probably lingering smell from them moving an appliance and hitting it on and off by accident), I don't regret mentioning it. Sometimes I just am going to be an obnoxious jackass about that stuff.

i recently also adopted a bonded pair and it's such a good idea. the scaredy cat of the two settled in really fast since he'd be hiding and then see his niece walking around getting pet and purring (not being attacked by the terrible humans who stuck him in a box just the other day) and he'd poke his head out.

plus, you're always getting to walk into a room a find them cuddling adorably. it's great!

celeste ,

He might need some time to adjust to the change in routine? It's tough to say. I had one cat about your cat's age who was very social and routine oriented. After his wild adjustment period, he settled in, and he would sleep all night. I hope consistency is all you need, too, but my cat might've been a weirdo.

Another cat figured out nighttime was when humans sleep only after closing her into the other half of the house when she wouldn't let us rest.

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/black-like-me-50-years-later-74543463/ Here's an interesting article on that.

By the late 1960s, however, the civil rights movement and rioting in Northern cities highlighted the national scale of racial injustice and overshadowed Griffin’s experiment in the South. Black Like Me, said activist Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture), “is an excellent book—for whites.” Griffin agreed; he eventually curtailed his lecturing on the book, finding it “absurd for a white man to presume to speak for black people when they have superlative voices of their own.”

This lawsuit is like an ad for her show, and she doesn't even need one.

celeste ,

That was the only method that really worked for my first cat - an enormous stray. So now I do it by default. It seems mean, but it doesn't hurt them and any method that takes less time I think is less traumatizing. I hope?

I was in college around the same time and recall doing my usual minimum research for a new system and still to this day think "acer's crap, right?" when someone mentions it, even though the memory of why is gone.
