1 in 10 restaurants in the US serve Mexican cuisine, reflecting expanding population, study shows (www.usatoday.com)

Food is deeply ingrained in cultural identity, and is one way to learn about a community’s heritage, familial customs and values. In the U.S., Mexican food is one of the most popular cuisines, with 1 in 10 restaurants serving Mexican, according to recent findings from the Pew Research Center. This trend reflects an expanding...

The weird part is that they don’t even sell real mexican food, but Tex-mex. Mexican coucine ≠ American cheese.

As a mexican, I can tell you that that’s how mexican hot dogs are always served. Chopped tomatoes and onions are always in a mexican hot dog among many more toppings depending on the region you eat them.

I don’t like dubbed movies, but it’s all about preferences.

Indian-Mexican wedding gift

We’re Polish living in Germany and were invited to a wedding in India by a friend of ours. The groom is Indian and the bride is Mexican, to make things more complicated. It’s planned at the end of November. That’s the first time going to India for us, we don’t know much about the culture. We don’t know what we should...

Mexican here. Gifts are a must in mexican weddings, but I know nothing about Indian culture. As the actual wedding taking place in India, one must assume it’ll be tied to Indian weddings protocol, so I would suggest you ask your friend about this.

I totally agree with you. Poor people.

but I don’t think Mexicans are suddenly buying 30% more Chinese goods.

I’m afraid you’re wrong with that. Mexico is buying more than ever directly from China retailers. Sales have skyrocketed since pandemic started. Chinese online retailers like Shein, AliExpress, and now Temu are mainly at the top of online retailers charts in Mexico.

Rotten Tomatoes Under Fire After PR Firm's Scheme to Pay Critics for Positive Reviews Uncovered (www.ign.com)

Rotten Tomatoes Under Fire After PR Firm’s Scheme to Pay Critics for Positive Reviews Uncovered::A new report details how a PR firm paid off critics to post positive reviews of 2018 drama Ophelia on Rotten Tomatoes, prompting scrutiny over the reviews aggregator.

Title is misleading. Why Rotten Tomatoes? The bribes went to critics not to the site which is just a critics aggregator.

WTF? I’m thinking of many different ways that this could be handled instead of killing a woman and her unborn baby. Geez!

And then there’s this. So that makes me think that the shooter will win this case.

Is Twitter/X really going to shut down anytime soon?

As a disclaimer, I am a passive hater of Twitter/X ie I don’t like it as a toxic social media platform and haven’t used it but I am not asking the users to move to Threads or some other fediverse alternative as a paid promoter. Also I don’t really intend to keep a strict tab on its status since I get any related major...

You really have a point here, but I don’t think Catholic church is the only one in which these gross events happen, the thing is that being one of the largest religion along with Islam they get the most attention and media coverage around the world. It’s just common sense. So yes, there are serious problems in that church, but I bet my ass that they’re not the only ones doing that. Take the blindfold from your eyes, every religion has leaders that abuse the power they have upon its followers to commit deplorable acts.

I don’t think so. The migration to Lemmy was minuscule. It’s still huge, like very huge, but now that I use Lemmy more than Reddit, differences are obvious. Reddit is so massive that it has become a wrestling arena, Lemmy on the other side, is a more quiet place where civilized dialogue is above anything else. It’s a matter of tastes, but I feel better here.

This is one of the few things this mexican government has done right. I think this was copied from Chile, and should be copied in many countries including the U.S. F*ck those greedy obese factories.

This moron is trying too hard to kill Twitter (X). I really don’t understand how many people are comfortable with his vesianic decisions and keep using the platform as if nothing happens.

A suspect - who fled the scene on foot - was killed by police when found nearby, allegedly still armed.

Police did their job.

I have two of them, a 2017, and a 2019 Pro. I’m still very satisfied with them.

In a new model I want AV1 and VP9.2 support (Future proof and to give youtube HDR).

↑ This is what I really would ask in a new version. If a new Nintendo Switch is due to the end of the year, I think we’ll get a new Shield TV too. Fingers crossed.

Edit: No new Nintendo Switch until late 2024, so new Shield soon.

YSK that restroom hand dryers blow fecal bacteria onto your hands (journals.asm.org)

There was a peer-reviewed report published in the journal for Applied and Environmental Microbiology that studied the amount of bacteria that was blown from hand dryers in 36 public restrooms at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. The sample from the study concluded that as many as 60 colonies of bacteria were...

This comment is the shit. It made me lol.

YSK: you can use a flashlight to direct cockroachs in the direction you want.

Why YSK: If you’ve ever had cockroaches in your home, you would be familiar with the feeling of unease that comes when they escape your clutches while roaming freely within the crevices of your home and soiling your belongings along the way. Before that happens, you can use a flashlight to direct them to your ‘striking...

I think the alarming rise of ultra right movements is because of the failure of leftist governments around the world. So yes, ultra right will come, we’ll get tired of that, and then ultra leftists will come again. It’s a vicious circle.

Bug in Stremio? Missing episodes and no streams found

I’m loving Stremio so far, but having bad luck with the TV show Only Murders in the Building. It’s a fairly recent show. However, it doesn’t show any episode information for season one and two on Android. On Google TV it does show the episodes but getting No Streams Found for every episode. I could easily found it on...

I can confirm this on Android TV app. It must be a bug. Maybe if you let it know on r/stremio you could get more help than here.

Here’s some context about Ecuador rising violence. youtu.be/GwT9IcE6E0o

Who is sneaking fentanyl across the southern border? Hint: it's not the migrants (www.npr.org)

Prosecutors and defense lawyers say Haley’s story is typical; the vast majority of illicit fentanyl — close to 90% — is seized at official border crossings. Immigration authorities say nearly all of that is smuggled by people who are legally authorized to cross the border, and more than half by U.S. citizens like Haley....

The people saying asylum seekers are brining drugs don’t care about the facts. This is just the same old racist shit people have been doing for decades. The claim immigrants being drug, crime, and disease. When, in actuality, most of the folks seeking asylum are fleeing that shit.

This. Totally this.

Boost for Reddit all time user here so I’d never tried Sync before. When I took a dive to Lemmy, I tried Jerboa because it was the closest thing to Boost, great little app, but it think it needs some aesthetic polishing. The I tried Connect, and oh boy it’s fast, functional, pretty (although it needs some design polishing also), and I made it look like the closest to the classic Boost list view.

Then Sync for Lemmy was released and I wanted to know what was all the hype about. How could it be as good or better than Boost for Reddit, I thought. Well, two days and I’m seriously thinking if I ever going to switch to Boost for Lemmy when it becomes available. Blew my mind!

Yes, there are some things not quite there yet (not being able to submit posts the major flaw for me), but design wise is just aeons ahead of any other Lemmy app.
