This is legit impressive. It seems there should be a gardening place for something this epic.

atempuser23 ,

The crime was heinous, but the police are supposed to apprehend the suspect. With qualified immunity and unchecked police violence it’s getting a bit Judge Dredd in some places.

Hopefully there is some evidence the armed person who was killed was infact the person who committed this crime.

atempuser23 ,

Depends on the plant and task. Soaker gets tons of use on dry plants to let them make deep roots.

I use just when messing with hornets.

Depending on where you are from. No. If you live in a place where gangs can roam the street challenging the police, unemployment is 15+% and corruption is rampant. The USA will be better.

**Yes.**If you come from a place with moderate laws, healthcare and representative government the USA could be worse to much worse.

atempuser23 ,

It’s just a terrible situation. I feel for her and the family and I sincerely hope that she is using multiple home heath aids.

What is the worst US state to live in generally?

I’m aware that, at the moment, Florida is deemed unsafe for people to travel to, but what is generally the worst state to live in? Factors such as education, religious extremism, crime, cost of food, healthcare, and access to other resources are relevant. Will “Deep South” states remain one of the worst places to live in...

Where do you live to see prices like that? Gas is 4.80 or so and no fast food is $15. That maybe is a fast casual restaurant.

atempuser23 ,

Sounds like you live in an expensive pocket, like near beach or a special neighborhood.

Use google to find gas near you it lists out prices . I was just in garden grove yesterday. Gas was 4.80 to 5.20. If you are driving a sports car that needs premium gas your going to pay more to enjoy more .

I took my extended family out in garden grove , 7 people for dinner at $130 before tip to a decent sit down place. McDonalds and Taco Bell at 6-10 for a meal.

Even near Disney in Anaheim prices are better than you listed out. I can grab a full meal at Denny’s for about 12-15.

When I first moved to ca I lived in a cool community where I could afford rent. Daily life was so expensive I was riding the bus an hour to get groceries.
Now pay more in rent and less in everything else in a boring place. Moving a few miles will make a difference for you.

So I don’t agree with it , but it may have something to do with ‘work’ there is part of Christianity that assigns value to work and that work will be rewarded by god. They are supposed to be works of faith, but some sects of Christianity assigns value to all work.

So they see riches as a just reward from god for being hardworking and honest. They inherently see riches as a reward for good work and poverty as a punishment for lack of ethic. As well anyone can better their position and get rich by becoming more aligned with god. So bring rich is an outward manifestation of one’s reward from God.

This is a simplification and extrapolates out a bunch of things.

This is not a zero sum game. I benefitted by finding Lenny and Lenny benefited from an influx of users.

Reddit hurt its self by damming the social contract with mods. That doesn’t help Lenny.

That isn’t a win, but reddit aren’t going away either.

It’s completely possible for Trump to lose this case and have it thrown out or negated. This is a real and vital test for the rule of law. I am not confident the grand experiment in law and liberty will survive.

atempuser23 ,

Plenty of people with common sense are helping Trump and don’t for a second think otherwise.

If they help Trump and he wins there is a windfall for the corrupt and power hungry. If trump doesn’t win, nothing happens to them and the system is weakened for the next one.

They win by playing, a weak rule of law is the end goal.

Tesla sued for false advertising after allegedly exaggerating EV ranges / The proposed class action accuses Tesla of fraud::A lawsuit accuses Tesla of false advertising for allegedly exaggerating EV ranges…

atempuser23 ,

This seems like it could be a bigger deal than it seems at first. Tesla sold partially on having much better range than competitors . If they used tactics to cover up the real world performance and had a team to specifically deny and deflect customers concerns other auto makers could get in the fray. Even a 10% variance would swing a consumer.

I’m looking for an ev and $ vs range mile is a big factor in my judgement. I’m not the only one.

atempuser23 ,

This is pretty normal. When I worked in vfx the studio I worked for took out pages in variety to give everyone a credit.

Most of the people who work on a film don’t get credit. There is above the line and below the line , they get credit. Most people aren’t even on the page.

I was able to get a credit once and my parents were proud.

atempuser23 ,

So what’s odd here is that this is tech devolving. X is a software services and technology company that pioneered a field. We are watching that fall apart in real time.

Technology doesn’t exist in a vacuum it is entwined in society. Business decisions are undoing years of a societies integration into daily lives. This is like witnessing the fall of Rome in fast forward. So oddly enough this is an live use case in the convergence of society and tech., which is technology.

atempuser23 ,

These are both compelling arguments and it is difficult to know which side has the edge. What are the arguments both for and against deliberate destruction vs incompetence?

atempuser23 ,

A president fomented a rebellion in the capitol of the United States to hold power. In the current landscape that statement alone makes me a leftist.

The words them selves have been so changed and loaded that it’s nearly impossible to even write a post about what I want to say. The political discourse around the ‘right’ has driven conservative politics right out of the conversation.

What passes for conservative politics is literally insane to me. There used to be some kind of agreement that there were problems and what the problems were. The main discourse was on how to solve the problems facing the America people.

The main effort of the ‘conservative’ discourse is no longer around solving shared issues. It seems to be centered around the idea of legislating ‘solutions.’ The idea seems to be to weaken all of the government checks and balances so that this can be achieved.

For an ‘classic’ conservative this is when I walk to keep checks , balances, voting rights, governmental oversight and freedom of religion. No conservative leaders are standing for this.

The voices in the Gop that had that kind of sanity focus have been sidelined and are all of the much older generations. That last semi-effective voice I heard from the right was Arnold Schwarzenegger speaking out against Trump, nazis and anti-antisemitism.

Thanks to Elon, there will never be another Arab Spring. Most of the money came from investors where that is a big plus. Elon invested a surprisingly small amount of his own money given the 44b total. Even a shattered Twitter will be a bigger soapbox than truth social. 6-8B of his own money, which he may have already extracted from twitter as a loan, is not a big deal to him.

If you can see the film print in the opening week. Christopher Nolan makes his movies in an analog way. So it is a film process all the way though except for VFX. This is one of the only opportunities to see film that was not digitally modified. Only one place in the world can make these imax 70mm film prints and they are all basically hand made. EDIT: link changed to piped link. piped.video/watch?v=xa1xJIgLzFk

2k digital projection is typically used in smaller theaters where the screen size is not large enough for anyone to actually see a difference.

atempuser23 ,

Nolan holds to a strict process that uses analog as much as possible. The film prints have higher contrast, color saturation and resolution than digital does until the film print wears out. These Nolan films are technical as well as artists achievements.

atempuser23 ,

The projection technology doesn’t exists yet to fully match the quality of an IMAX film print. Some places are going for LED walls to get over that projection limitation.

atempuser23 ,

Only one place in the world can process the 70mm film used on Imax prints.

atempuser23 ,

This film was a film to film transfer, digital was only used for the digital version.

atempuser23 ,

They do have scenes that are VFX but all non-vfx shots are not scanned and digitally manipulated. The digital sections are recorder to film then cut into the film footage. So for the scenes that don’t have VFX you get to see what the film process looks like.

atempuser23 ,

I wasn’t able to get tickets to see the film version, so I’m going to see it in Dolby Vision. If any movie should take advantage of HDR it should be one about nukes.

atempuser23 ,

Editing is done on the computer, then the editing software outputs a list of foot and frames numbers that are hand ,machine, cut together.

atempuser23 ,

Most people can’t just order a print even with money. What you can do is pay for a theater that already has a print for a private screening. They would need studio approval to show it once the fees were paid.

This is true for most films.

atempuser23 ,

If you are a film student. Yes. For most folks 5 hours is a lot of driving. Film is the way that Christopher Nolan intended but the digital versions exist just so that most people can experience it. Don’t feel like you missed out if it’s just too much driving. The story is what is key. Not the projection technology.

atempuser23 ,

That is what I did, just make sure that you can get a spare bulb for reasonable money. Some old projectors have EXPENSIVE bulbs

atempuser23 ,

So during the pandemic around me you could rent a whole ass movie theater for less than $300. But the good projectors would only be able to show movies that they had. There was some kind of fee, transportation, transmission?, to order up something else.

There were like lesser project that you could hook a DVD player or a game system up to but they were the projectors used to sell adds before the trailers and such.

atempuser23 ,

No. But enough came that Lemmy is now a vibrant place.

atempuser23 ,

It’s not an alias it’s a handle. Computer message boards and the CB radio craze existed at the same time.

atempuser23 ,

I’m surprised how lively it feels here. It’s amazing that it feels nearly as fell as reddit with not even 1% of the user base.

atempuser23 ,

Making a post that blows up like this one was a thing on reedit. You got a score and that encouraged gaming/trolling. It’ll take a bit to realize that karma isn’t a thing.

atempuser23 ,

The Karma was your reddit score a way to rank your seniority and value. It made it a bit easier to see where someone stood in a specific community.A post from a throwaway account was more suspect than one with lots of karma.

Point farming will be a thing, people crave attention and you can get that validation . Without that overall score I think it will be less pronounced on lemmy. I have been shocked with the reasonableness of posters here on lemmy.

atempuser23 ,

It’s not just spez , there are going to be a LOT of folks in reddit willing to burn it to the ground to create valuation for an IPO. The next Mod blackout need to happen the night before and the day of the IPO.
