I read all sorts of things from people all the time and can often overthink the results or have missed something else I could've read that would've created more context, but I wasn't there to see, or perhaps, with time, I read and then forgot.

Basically, I think you'd then need to go down another rabbit hole of figuring out how good Rob actually is at reading people before his testimony is really worth all that much, because while Bob could lie about his feelings, Rob could lie about how he's interpreting Bob, dismantling the efficacy of his callout, and even if Rob were honest it wouldn't really prove anything. Just that Rob doesn't think Bob is being honest, so you'd just be arguing eternally until Bob somehow lets slip his mask, under the assumption he is actually lying, at which point you prove Bob is a liar who likes attention.

But in the majority times that you'd be wrong, or you wouldn't get the mask to slip, you'd just prove yourself an asshole, and would progressively lose friends/popular trust and credibility until arguing anyone's true feelings wouldn't be a truly valid option any longer, since no one would want to believe you, even if you were right due to being more often incorrect.

Basically, if you wanted to spend your time/have some sort of hobby or job where you attempted to force people to be honest about things they might lie about for emotional, popular, or financial reward, you'd have to go about it in a non confrontational investigative way, because you'd otherwise destroy your own opinion's worth or career long before it would get the public to change beliefs.

So you could argue claims of suffering, but there'd only be two reasons to do so, to be a dick, or to prove they were lying for their own gain, and the first isn't worth discussing, while the second is better served through less direct means.

He's not involved in any of the credits for the game, that I can tell. His studio did it, but it doesn't mean he was a decision maker for the design.

Monster Hunter. When I was a kid with a PSP I bought Freedom Unite since the box art was cool. Had not a fucking clue what was happening or how to even understand the weapons.

Years later I bought a 3DS, 3 Ultimate, and even a circle pad pro for it. Nope, still just didn't even crack an hour of playtime because everything was just so strange. Finally, in probably 2019 or so I decided that there was too much cool word of mouth about the series for me to not try and figure out how it worked.

I got Generations Ultimate, and decided that if I could figure out how to play Monster Hunter that I wouldnt be a complete failure in life. I just played, found that nothing made sense, but just... kept going anyway. I started researching what the different weapons were for, realized that they're basically just different fighting game character-type movesets, and from there I slowly explored the game until id ended up burning 240 hours or so on MHGU.

I discovered Monster Hunter World after that, and it was all over for me. I never get to g rank, but I've put probably a combined over 1k hours into the series, which is much more than I usually would for other games. Just fucking fantastic games in almost every way, except for tutorialization.

How does attraction feel like to you, mentally, physically and emotionally?

It was sometime in early 2022 that I found myself reading a few romance novels. I remember being mildly annoyed about how most of the books had instant chemistry/attraction as part of the plot. Then I suddenly found myself wondering, how do I feel if and when I feel attraction? I think I have probably never felt instant...

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I think chemistry and attraction are different. I'd say how attraction feels depends on how strong you feel it, but at its basic initial level you think they look good and would like to spend time alone with them to get to know them.

Chemistry I think is much deeper and has more layers. If you had chemistry in every way It implies that on a personality level you two see eye to eye on most major opinions, such as politically, hobbies, types of film genres or video games, you both like/dislike casual drinking or smoking weed, you both prefer dogs to cats, etc.

Basically chemistry, to me, is how smooth it is transitioning from living by yourself to with that person, how much of your everyday life decisions and your personality traits/humor naturally sync up.

I mean, the guy headed up probably the largest AI company that exists, with AI being the largest new tech that exists, and has incredible potential to change the world, for the better or worse.

Purely based on him being at the forefront of the most interesting and novel industry in the world, regardless of anything else about him personally, I'm sure his position in the industry drives more than enough intrigue for people to pay attention to him, at least until they see what happens next.

Because OP was asking for help and information. One guy can have his fun dumb comment. Six guys doing it is too many.

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

They tried, I think six is too many. And to be clear, I think people can have infinity dumb fun comments if they'd like, but at least somebody should stop to try to help OP before they usurp a legitimate question into their own sandbox, if somebody tried then I wouldn't have said anything. Engagement is only really useful if it's the intended kind. Who cares if there's a ton of engagement if it's all just trolling, as light as it is.

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I'll give you a different perspective. Someone who may know the answer may look at the comment count and assume it's such a simple question somebody within the 17 comments must've already given it, and they scroll on.

I'm not saying the mods should ban or even chastise these people, I just personally find it distasteful, so I'm saying so. I can understand parts of your argument as well.

Well, it's about what body part is doing the heavy lifting. Even in thumb wrestling you interlock at the other fingers, but the thumbs are where the strength is applied.

Same thing with arm wrestling, you interlock at the hands, but who wins is more based off the strength of your biceps or forearms.

Some visual elements and music could be described as decently unsettling for a children's game. Its central conflict also plays with themes of mortality, doom, and the concept of running out of time and the end of the world.

Always be careful going back to play older PC games. Often times there are fixes you have to apply because certain normalized features of modern PCs weren't really considered when the game came out.

Geometry Wars is fucking awesome. I still remember playing Project Gotham Racing 3 on my 360 as a teen and discovering the Geometry Wars arcade cabinet in your in-game house that just lets you play the whole game.

For me, the most recently, probably Dishonored. Id played it through before, and really enjoyed it, but never thought about replaying it until I saw it in my library again. So I replayed it, and goddamn it, that's a great game still.

If you enjoyed the time spent, I don't think it's wasted. I am glad to have been able to laugh anytime I did, even if it was from a meaningless video game. But even those have become something for me, things I have accomplished and seen, they introduce me to philosophical concepts and ideas of places I've never been or aren't physically possible.

I like to take screenshots too that I use as wallpapers and pretend I'm some amateur game photographer. You can create some interesting things and enjoy an experience that is uniquely you. The media you consume is personal to you and informs who you are.
Everything that builds you into who you are is important, even if you find aspects of them meaningless.

Everything becomes dust in the wind, it's either happening now or it's memories, so I think it's good to enjoy what you can now and try and make good things happen next, as well as you're able.

It's an undead named enemy from the game Deadbolt. It took me a bit to realize why his skull was broken the way it was, the game never spells it out.

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I have to ask... Why did you watch that?

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I did the same, except I was in a theater, so I walked out. As soon as the beginning of the movie where the humans return and occupy Pandora after a "two years later" hand wave I just knew it was somehow going to be worse than the first, which was passably decent and pretty.

Like, preventing the humans from occupying the planet was the entire pivotal conflict of the first film, and they just failed to prevent it again in the second one, and it was completely glossed over. All my brain could see was "we want to draw this shit out for a franchise, so the humans are just here now".

Then the remainder of the film was just feckin boring and shallow, albeit pretty, but not pretty enough for three feckin hours, maybe it had a killer ending, I do not know

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

Funny, I liked Midsommar way more than Hereditary since Hereditary becomes fantastical and more horror tropey the longer it goes on, where Midsommar sticks to situations that are relatively feasible and still horrifying

No, you can be close with someone but not tolerate their presence. I've had this manifest as high maintenance friends that I knew a lot about and spent a lot of time with, but were ultimately draining to be around and asked too much of me to be sustainable.

Does anywhere online, shipping shoes in the USA have European sizes as a legitimate search option?

American sizing is criminal capitalist bullshit without standards. I am a 47. It fits perfectly. American sizing allows brands to fit and size differently to create anti consumer manipulation. The shoes are made in the same places. Just the American targeted junk is exploitive nonsense by design....

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

No idea about the sizing, but I recommend New Balance or Skechers as good shoe brands. I worked at an orthotics lab and we recommend those as good for your feet and decent durability.

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

Haha, let me clarify. I worked at an orthotics lab over six years ago, and even then I didn't construct them, I did customer facing receptionist and receiving duties, I'm not very technically acquainted with the industry at large, just with what brands we recommended and the fact that I still wear New Balance in a warehouse job and find them comfortable and long lasting.

Sorry I can't give any better info on that brand, they either weren't around when I had that job or were small enough that I never heard of customers wanting to use them.

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I have questions. First of all, how dare you?

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I was best friends with a guy since elementary school, and moved out of state after dropping out of college. We stayed in touch for years, would play games together online and chat all the time.

One day, I got radio silence from him. A month goes by and I've seriously considered the idea that he died or killed himself, until he finally says something to me. I'm so damn confused, and when I ask him what the hell happened he says that he wanted to know if I'd notice or care if he didn't talk to me, that he felt like we never talked about anything more than surface level anymore. That I was obsessed with video games and he felt like it was all stuff he didn't want in his life. Of course I noticed, I tried to get a hold of him repeatedly.

And you know what? I think he was right about those things. I spent and still spend my time getting high and forgetting about anything I could, and video games were some of the only things to get me to forget about the waking horrors of life. That and spending time with him and sharing music with him. But I didn't care that he might be right, because he never fucking talked to me about any of it.

There was no discussion of concern, no expression of the feeling that things weren't satisfactory for him, no chance for me to realize these things about myself and repair them for the good of my best friendship I'd ever had in my life. Not once did he consider how the way he just cold shouldered me made me feel, how I worried for his fucking life.

I just stopped talking to him. He was always a weird dude, but that's fine, I'm a weird dude, who cares. But it turns out that it affected his decision making in such a way that he thought how he handled it was reasonable and he expected me to just let it go. I stopped talking to him.

Months later he hit me up again to talk, and I got on an hours long call with him, only to realize he was cool with me, and I was okay with him, and he wanted to be friends again, but he was surprised that I even wanted to bring up what he did at all, as if I would just let it all go because "time heals everything". We hung up that call open to talking more and being friends again, but I just never spoke to him again and he didn't try either.

I realized we could be technically cool with each other all we wanted, but the friendship we had was broken, my trust was broken, he was essentially dead to me. I think, in the end, that if you have a nasty falling out with someone, that if it's your fault, even partially, you can own that, you can try to fix it. But if it's their fault and they don't acknowledge that part, it's just not worth it, because the friendship you had doesn't exist anymore, and clinging to it won't fix that.

It took me another year after that to get over losing him, I don't really have many friends, and that was a major blow to me, socially and mentally, for a long time I'd see things and want to tell him about them, and getting past that was tough, but I did it, and I'd rather be here now, like this, than have caved and reconnected with some empty shell of the friendship i used to have.

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

Yeah, it's just once it's happened I can't forget anymore, I'd always be second guessing or paranoid that it would happen again. It screwed me up for friendship in general for a while because if a guy I knew since elementary school, who I thought I'd figured out could do that, then why trust anybody? You just never quite know somebody, sometimes.

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

It really blew my mind, like, why did he have to do it that way? What happened to just speaking about how you feel?

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

And I sound pretty jaded when I say everything I'm saying, I don't think everyone is like that. Some people are easier to figure out and are more straight up about everything, and some people aren't, sometimes you get unlucky and get caught up with people who are more trouble than it's worth.

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

Yes, I think if you need to worry about someone being upset with you or having problems that they don't wanna talk about directly then it's not worth it. Life is hard enough without a run around from someone who's supposed to make the world easier.

Are phone notification LEDs still a thing?

Looking at all the features that older phones uses to have compared to newer ones, I never hear anyone talk about the removal of the notification LED. I personally really liked that feature, being able to see if I got an email, a text or missed a call without turning on my phone was awesome. My Samsung note 8 had this feature,...

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I think it just got sort of replaced by the "always on display" as Android calls it, where the screen is "off" but still displays the system clock and any notification icons received. For me, it's accomplished the same thing while being more specific than the LED

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I use third party apps to disable permanent icons, for me it's the alarm. I always have repeating alarms on, so the icon is pointless, I disabled it in the app settings. I'd like for a first party way to do that, but oh well

all-knight-party ,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

Everytime there's a change in pricing that was already a set precedent there's a hurdle to overcome like this, and it becomes extremely important to handle the situation delicately since 95% of possible ways to handle it could go very wrong.

I feel like the only way to really deal with it correctly if it truly must happen because of rising costs is to just admit that, like they did, but then stick to that and only that message, and just wait for the community to come around. If it's possible to provide any sorts of even vague math around sales and cost to produce this content then that context would help people understand, but there's almost no way to change a precedent for the worse on the consumer end without some amount of backlash.
