Privatization is one of the recommended policies, but essentially every place that has implemented it isn’t better off now. Studies show that it works for increasing the performance of the enterprises, but making shareholders richer doesn’t really matter for standards of living. Even the IMF and IBRD have started to see issues with privatizing everything. Argentina will one day be stronger, but not as a result of these policies.

The variety in question takes 25 years to mature and so far has been resistant to cultivation.

If you pay the developer fee you can sign for a full year, and you can have unlimited apps, but I think you can only sign 10 a day or something.

It takes up to 72hrs for them to process it, usually it’s quicker than that though.

I’ve had the same issue sometimes, usually switching the video player to “Use Old Video Player” (or vice versa) solves it. Sometimes the HDR tone mapping is a bit off then, but as another commenter recommended, Infuse works well for that.

Hamas’ philosophy: All civilians, all children are tools of war (nypost.com)

Major Y [an American who went to Israel to fight] and other people on the ground I have spoken with say that they estimate about one in every two or three [civilian] homes in Gaza they go into has military weaponry, including AK47s, grenades and rocket launchers. And they routinely find entrances to Hamas’s terror tunnels...

Intent doesn’t need to be explicit, but in this case it is.

abcnews.go.com/…/harsh-israeli-rhetoric-palestini…

In particular:

“Deputy Knesset speaker Nissim Vaturi from the ruling Likud party wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Israelis had one common goal, “erasing the Gaza Strip from the face of the earth.” Israeli Heritage Minister Amichay Eliyahu, from the far-right Jewish Power party, suggested that Israel drop a nuclear bomb on Gaza and said there were “no uninvolved civilians” in the territory.”

Also the list of genocidal acts, as per the UN Genocide Convention, stipulates that any one of those acts is genocide, not that all 5 must be done. Acts 1 to 3 are very clearly being used in Gaza, and with Knesset members establishing intent it’s clearly a genocide, but arguably even without those statements the actions Israel has undertaken still fit the definition.

alcyoneous ,

Them being right wing is bad yes, but both politicians form members of the governing coalition, including Likud. One is the deputy Speaker. Israel is not a military dictatorship, the Knesset has control over them, and it’s made clear with the numerous expressions like this that the ruling parties have a genocidal intent.

In addition, Law for Palestine has compiled lists of what they believe to be evidence of genocidal intent, including from military leaders. Some of the statements included are a stretch, but it will undoubtedly be enlightening for you to read through it.

Just a quick correction, the ICJ (where this is taking place) is the UN Judicial body. The ICC, established by the Rome Statute, is a different thing. If you’re a UN member, the ICJ has jurisdiction.

The ICC is also launching a war crimes probe, but as you noted, Israel and the US aren’t signatories so that might not amount to much.

I am not a doctor, but have had some results using minoxidil and Foligain’s Minox&Triox spray. As was pointed out in the other comment, hair follicles will start to die as you age (assuming you’re male) this is caused by DHT which is a result of testosterone breaking down. First the follicle goes dormant, and then dies. Depending on how advanced your thinning is, you can likely reactivate and save between few and most of the follicles. I hate recommending Reddit, but r/tressless is a good resource, but they pass around a lot of lingo so be prepared for that.

alcyoneous ,

Gotcha! I think tressless could still be a good resource then, but from what I recall it’s mostly men.

My mom and sister have both started using minox and have started to see some positive results, but I’m not sure of the biological process that would cause follicle dormancy/death in females, so I’m not sure what results you could expect. Also to note, minoxidil can cause some shedding at first, so your hair will look thinner for a few months until it starts to regrow more.

I moved from the US (MI) to France and then Spain, but am living with my parents while looking for jobs here, so a bit of a different situation regarding most of your questions, but I’ve helped some people move across the US so I have some experience there! If you have a car with a hitch, you can fairly cheaply rent a moving trailer from UHaul or something similar. That should apply to the US (and Canada I would think). Renting their vans tends to be quite expensive, and shipping is outrageous now, so that’s probably your best bet. Generally, if it will cost more to transport it then it would cost to replace it, it isn’t worth taking with you (this applies more towards shipping).

Haven’t been on the west coast of the US much, so I have no idea what or where to recommend for that, but I know it can be very expensive. I’ve heard Northern California can be relatively affordable, but no experience there. I doubt this was of much help, but I wish you the best in reaching a place where you’ll be happier!

I even find the Switch a bit too cumbersome for transit use! The PSP was the perfect size for me, but a modern version would be too underpowered for everything nowadays I guess.

alcyoneous ,

Exactly but I think it’s opposite. The top kept spinning, seemingly endlessly, which wouldn’t happen in real life.

alcyoneous ,

Exactly this. Active recovery (moving the muscles around like normal with a bit of exercise) is the best. Limping will likely cause other problems down the line.

alcyoneous ,

Same. Lucky enough to find something part time but there’s so many people applying for everything it’s crazy. Best of luck!

Can you elaborate? I haven’t seen any “more reputable” sources addressing this but I may have missed them…

Berkeley Lab to lead US hunt for element 120 after breakdown of collaboration with Russia (www.chemistryworld.com)

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is setting its sights on creating element 120 as part of a new US effort to discover the first elements in row eight of the periodic table. The move follows the breakdown of the US–Russian partnership, which had previously discovered the five heaviest elements, following the Russian...

I totally forgot how terrible a non-ad-free YouTube experience is

So I’ve been using youtube ad blockers since pretty much when ad blocker extensions were first available. Lately though I’ve been getting hit more and more with these messages that YT was sending out every 5 or so videos telling me that adblockers aren’t allowed. No problem, just gotta wait 5 seconds to x it out and then...

Check out uYou+ with AltStore. It lets you enable PiP and background play, and I think you can disable shorts and such.

Orion (when it works 99% of the time) on my Mac. It’s pretty much all the benefits of Safari plus the ability to run some Firefox/Chrome extensions. I know it’s not FOSS yet, but they at least claim to be working on it. Firefox for the other websites that don’t work on Orion (very rare), and Chrome for the others that don’t work well at all on Orion/Firefox (almost never). I’m planning on deleting Chrome overall soon.

Yes please! Missed the signups after RARGB shutdown, so it would be great to have one!

It’s definitely seems to have accelerated under Macron in the past few years though…

Maybe a little bit of both! And fuck I hope LePen and her ilk never get anywhere near the presidency, but with the way things are going that seems unlikely. But who knows, things could change before then…

Media server

I just recently started my journey setting up Plex with *Arr and have had a blast. I have the setup running on a raspberry Pi. Before I start buying a bunch of external hard drives, I went searching for some dedicated server hardware to comparison shop. Am I crazy to consider buying an old tower server for this, or will a...

alcyoneous ,

You could always setup a Tdarr instance on another, powerful server (that you don’t have on all the time) that can crunch through everything to make sure it’s the right file type.

Also, mycotoxins bioaccumulate. You might not get sick now, but you’re definitely increasing your chance of future illness and potentially reduced lifespan.

alcyoneous ,

They can handle it, and they do filter it out of you, but it is a slow process that takes a lot of time compared to how the body processes other waste products. The danger is that mycotoxins are harmful in extremely small amounts, so any extended accumulation is harmful.

alcyoneous ,

Exactly. It seems like a lot of the research in this area is quite new (last 5 years or so), so we’re always learning more! And from my understanding, the LD50 probably isn’t that important for most people for these toxins, it’s more at what levels do they start causing detectable symptoms and by how far do they raise your risk of cancers and other diseases. “The poison is in the dose”, but just because it doesn’t kill you instantly doesn’t mean it’s not hurting you in the long term.

alcyoneous ,

Personally I don’t really think so. There is a Plex app, you can connect infuse to Plex too, and there are emby and jellyfin apps. Plus, PWAs work fine for overseerr and the like.

alcyoneous ,

Are you still having issues with the download feature? It was definitely a disaster at first, but it’s gotten way more reliable and responsive over the past few months it seems.

Edit: I ask because I’ve seen quite a few “fixes” that people have advertised that seemed to work for a bit, and could dig them up for you if you needed.

alcyoneous ,

I can personally say that downloading works much better for me now. So I’d recommend giving it another shot! I definitely agree that it was terrible and fully supported LTTs stance as of a few months ago, so maybe the Plex team decided to prioritize that…
