I really like that our grocery delivery company has started sending an email with items missing and substitutions before delivery, where before you only knew when they arrived. Means both one less thing to do when they are here, and fewer surprises / more I can plan for during the delivery “interaction”.

All in all a bit less stressful event.

Oh, and I think I run the store out of my type of coffee yet again :-).

@samantha @actuallyautistic I am so glad my grocery store doesn’t do substitutes. That would be a real problem with my gluten intolerance

I need something to do.

For the absolute first time in my life I'm not filled with surging emotions. Today is like a tabula rasa for me, and I'm hoping to build on it.

I've been stuck in autistic burnout since I was 8yo. The only hobby I ever had was picking through rolls of pennies to pull out the wheatbacks, for one summer as a preteen.

I really could use something to do that isn't computer based. I have books, but want something more active.

Suggestions?

@Uair @actuallyautistic I really like swimming as a more active hobby. The feeling of my body being weightless in the water brings me sensory joy.

I did a very autistic thing and bought summer clothes in 2 to 4 packs.

I am now the proud owner of:

  • 9 capri leggings in 4 colors.

  • 10 of the same tank top all in different colors.

  • 4 bike shorts in different colors.

  • 17 autistic t-shirts from my store in 5 different colors (they come in more colors, I just buy the same colors lol)

I will officially wear the same outfits every day in various colors when both sleeping and being outside in the heat lol

@ashleyspencer @actuallyautistic haha! I often do this too. I have 20 pairs of the same underwear 😂

This video about parenting with undiagnosed autism and ADHD really starts all the feelings.

I still regularly find it hard to be a parent when overwhelmed. Knowing I'm autistic has made it possible to make changes to make things work better - not perfect, but better. I don't want to think about effect of not knowing I'm autistic...

Video CW: While video is not explicit, could be triggering for parents or kids in similar situations.

@samantha @actuallyautistic I can only imagine how difficult this can be. While I was also diagnosed late, I didn’t have children yet. And cause my partner is also on the spectrum, we decided against having children.

A question for non americans:

Does your society admit there's anything wrong with plastic?

Let me count the plactic i dispose of every day. One around each granola bar, up to 4. One around the plastic knife, fork, spoon +napkin at dinner. Styrofoam(!!) cup of milk. One bag for every three cookies. I have a mug, but just saw a man using 2x styrofoam cups to get enough coffee.

I have negative money and live in a homeless shelter. I do a lot better when on my own.

@Uair @actuallyautistic yes. Here fast food restaurants are encouraged to reduce single use plastic. Like plastic take out boxes or the sauce packages. There is a single use plastic tax which of course is mostly paid by the customer. I’m not sure is this is the way to go but at least we’re trying

Do my comrades have a journaling practice?

What's it look like?

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic it looks like a ton of abandoned notebooks. I learned not to buy anymore notebooks 😂

My autistic brain’s aversion to surprises extends to gifts. I’m grateful when people think of me and want to buy me gifts, but 99% of the time I’d rather they didn’t. Surprise gifts or gifts in general
can carry great expectations and generally bring me so much stress that I derive little joy from them.

Even if its something I really like. Its the same when buying gifts for others too, I don't like it. I'm not being "tight with money" or lazy.

@AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic I personally love gifts from people I know. Usually I make lists around my birthday and xmas. I usually don’t like it as much when they go off script unless they know me really well
