Do you like less foods as an adult than you did when you were a kid, or do you like more?

When I was a kid I would eat just about anything.

I loved bananas, garlic, vanilla flavored things, canned soup, flavored chips, etc.

Now those things taste repulsive.

What about you?

For me there hasn't been much change.I have been eating pretty much everything both as a child and now.

The only change I really remember is pineapple, which I didn't eat as a kid but can eat now, though I'm not keen on it.

My problem around eating is more remembering to eat, and then not to eat too much when I actually do eat...

Since it comes up with some frequency on autistic social media, I wanted to share my experience with noise cancelling headphones as an noise sensitive autistic person with auditory processing issues. As always, this is just my experience.

I tried writing it for a Mastodon post, but it got way to long... so I ended up dumping it on my blog instead.

If you have any questions etc. do feel free to share.

This video about parenting with undiagnosed autism and ADHD really starts all the feelings.

I still regularly find it hard to be a parent when overwhelmed. Knowing I'm autistic has made it possible to make changes to make things work better - not perfect, but better. I don't want to think about effect of not knowing I'm autistic...

Video CW: While video is not explicit, could be triggering for parents or kids in similar situations.

How do you predict how functional you're going to be? I seem to have a lot of trouble telling how functional I presently am. Honestly, it can even be a bit murky in retrospect. I guess I'm textbook "high functioning" … because I lie about it at every level. First, to myself. Feeling hopeless.

@eo For how functional I'm going to be, it's mostly based on experience for the specific things that may affect it I need to do, and how many other spoon draining things I have in the time (generally days) before.
This is far from perfect, but I'm slowly getting reasonable OK at predicting it after spending a lot of time on it over the last 2 years. I try to overestimate how expensive things are going to be, so when I fail it's in the good direction.

@eo For telling how well I'm currently... I find that to be hard, since I can in the moment feel OK, but then when some challenge comes up I don't have capacity to deal with it... so turned out, I wasn't too well (this happened 15 minutes ago again...). I try to get an idea of how well I am by noticing past (earlier in the day) state and then taking into account things which I have done. E.g. I know I may feel OK after work meeting, but I may feel it a lot an hour later.

I feel very autistic right now. We are getting appliances delivered, so I’m (with agreement from my partner) hiding in the attic and she’s talking to the delivery people and getting them to put the stuff in the right place :-).

Then I don’t have to do mentally expensive interactions, but I’m here in part so I could do it if they came later when she’s not here.
