Purchase Power Parity only works domestically. Once you venture out in the world, things cost what they cost, no matter how little your populace makes.

@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

21.000 people in a city of 13 million. that sounds like a rounding error.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

No, if they play internationally they cannot. Telling individuals what they can and cannot talk about is another thing though.

Unity is firing people as a result of a failed monetization attempt by the chief executive. I would argue the employees should have a case against the company and the chief executive. As this was so poorly implemented, fault could be argued.

Microsoft hyperV and azure will keep munching on their business.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Sure, but with this change it’s becoming harder to see the advantage of VMware over hyperV with full lintegration to azure, and azure stack edge. A single interface to manage cloud and on prem that includes monitoring etc.

Sunk cost or not, with this change the companies need to move anyway so the immediate question is why not all the way? but I might be wrong.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

A few hundred losing their jobs is kinda misrepresenting the situation isn’t it. If you keep seeing each company by itself in terms of firings but then group the market as a whole in terms of people with money in the market.

It’s either a few thousand with money in the company vs the people fired from that company… Or the market vs all people fired in the market during these waves.

Plus… when you are one of the fired people the impact can be deeply impactful, in the US even as far as having no health insurance. While less profit does not have such an impact.

@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

A reasonable response with worries we also share. Thanks for that.

I’m from Europe and don’t understand why this should not just be resolved with taxes on the companies.

The record profits of the companies are in my vision because the company does not have to do anything for the healthcare and pensions. So if the company does not have to care for it, but society requires it, this is where the government needs to act. Tax the companies and arrange healthcare and retirement stipends. This solves one issue by solving the other, allowing the company to keep doing what it’s doing without having to think about healthcare… that has been resolved.

Individuals then have retirement benefits and can use private retirement insurance to supplement this.

I have had all of them lugged against me in conversations, is there any source for the image, and more importantly sources that refute the nonsense claims?

That was the risk of remaining on the platform the moment musk took over. And if not then, when he started stripping it down and making it less reliable. And if not then, maybe when he started pursuing shadow banning again.

No government or news business has any business anymore being on Twitter. They should use the fedpub protocol and push out their messages there.

This will allow their readers/citizens to use a broad scala of apps to read them, allows more 3rd party apps to integrate them.

Governments and newspapers must hold the reigns over their own infra or risk this happening.

It will be interesting to know if the cables for these things can handle the load. On an individual level probable, but on larger scale?

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Much easier to let the west handle this and keep your hands clean not pulling the irk of local extremist. Then you can later blame the west for colonialism and violence against the locals.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Exactly, regardless of the naysayers this hits the nail on the head. And Ukranians knew this very well. All former Soviet states know this as seen by their response.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

And pay with what? Yuan, ruble, ruppee, real? As long as there are no large trade inbalances it’s fine.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

They really screwed the pooch with the 737 max9… it’s like the gift that keeps on giving.

I think internal documents and communication should be seized and a federal criminal investigation is in order… someone must have actively fucked with this.

Embrear and Airbus are uncorking the champagne now probably.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

This is indeed what I meant. I don’t think that someone was actively trying to make the plane unsafe, but in the eternal quest for more profit engineers, best practices and safety reports where ignored to make the plane as cheap as possible, resulting in the current flying grounded deathtrap.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Maybe they can rent some production space in seattle :P

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Absolutely. Hence my original call for a criminal investigation to see if they indeed accepted the risks knowingly as then they should be held accountable.

Like I think all upper management of big oil that knew what they where doing to the planet should be tried in the Hague for Crimes against humanity. I don’t care if they are old and long retired, concentration camp guards are also still tried after all these years.

All these manufacturers collect tons of data. There is no reason range estimates can’t be better.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Mine too. I more mean that what is put on the sticker for sales. That should be an accurate average range for normal use.

Yes we can haggle over “normal use” but the bottom line is that the ranges advertised should be better representative of reality.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

My point exactly. Maybe this data should be required to be disclosed.

Also your opponent might just forego pretence and summarily execute you when they catch you or claim themself president and be immune to consequences and imprison you anyway.

Statements without proof can be dismissed without proof.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Yes, there are extremists in Ukraine. Azov (and others) was this before the war, they where also a political party that did not get enough votes for a single seat in Ukrainian parlement.

And Azov started to militarize… after the Russian invasion in 2014 as counter weight to Girkin and his extremists who dragged Ukraine into a war.

So what is your point? A whole state is defined by its extremist minority? Ukraine does not have the luxury to crack down on or exclude these groups now they are in an existential battle for survival.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

I think you are turning around cause and effect. Fringe political extremist where turned into heroic defenders of the motherland the day little green men showed up to separate Crimea and the Donbas fron Ukraine. If anything the Russian invasion have them legitimacy. It clearly says so in the links you provided.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Turned in the perception of Ukranians. The Azov movement was seen by many Ukranians for what they where… right wing extremists they had no legitimacy. But when Russia invaded they fought the Russians tooth and nail, legitimizing them.

Biden articulated what Putin was saying himself. Joining NATO is the choice of a souverein nation and using that as an excuse for invasion is just that… an excuse.

So no, I don’t think I see it reversed. And what we are seeing unfold is clear. You claim to be anti imperialist but when Russia does it it’s OK?

The war is horrible and can end with Russia withdrawing to within their own borders, but that won’t happen as Putin will be punished by his “own” and replaced with someone else to do it.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Sure, if that’s your take there is no use further discussing it.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

They are also used against hypersonic missiles the Russians have (kinzal etc.) and ballistics like s300 and s400.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Yes they are, but in this conflict the Russians reconfigured some of them and use them in a ground to ground attackrole.

They had shortages of other tactical weapons and apparently a nice stockpile of these missiles.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Yes, but afaik the hypersonic term applies to weapons over mach 4. NATO also adds additional requirements for hypersonics, such as manourerability. But they have enough speed to qualify.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Yes exactly, also each icmb would qualify (during re-entry they also pickup “some” speed)… but it seems like hypersonic is sort of a marketing sticker thing, like “green” and “low fat”.

The NATO hypersonics that are being worked on should be able to make evasive manouvera at speed, will be interesting to see.

But, if she did the things she did, then it surely is her own fault, no? Or, as long as you are for the right cause, your past disgressions do not matter?

Tosti ,

She had something that could be used against her, so it was a matter of time before someone used it.

competition is good for the games market. Steam needs a well funded co petitie of note. This helps drive innovation and keeps prices down.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Yeah I sort of get what you are saying. But I see it as less of an issue. The Devs take a pay for timed exclusivity and this helps development. But in the end the exclusivity will go away as devs will in no way keep part of 5heir consumerbase from their product. And I can wait… But I see your point fo sho!

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

We agree in the most part, and I’m happy the dev they tried to strongarm had a spine and called them out. That put a stop to that pretty quick.

Any monopolist behavior is bad imho, but I can see room for limited exclusivity. But not copyright, 100 years after the authors death limited… 6 months maybe 12… that’s it.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

So Pantsir does work against air targets! So far the footage from Ukraine suggested the thing did not work.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

LoL… Russia does not need help from anyone for that. Stick some contractniki in an Pantsir with minimal training and you get what you get.

Underestimating the Russian army would be foolish and Ukraine does not seem to do that. The harsh reality is visible for them every day. Plans change… From 3 days to Kiev to forever war for example.

I just thought it was funny to see a Pantsir not being ganked by a 400 dollar drone for a change.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Russia is also marching 100’s of thousands of their minorities and people of the Donbas to their deaths, and slaughtering Ukrainians while doing it, they are double dipping sort to say.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

That, and Russia used Belgorod as a launching point for several Iskanders missiles against Ukraine in the large strike. So a lot of return fire went to Belgorod to destroy the launchers. Missile off course, intercepted, Ewar jammer, so many reasons a single munition can end up in a population center. It’s not as if a grad was used to carpet Belgorod.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Well this is not strange is it if you can’t import the only solution is building things yourself.

Also companies left and sold their production for cents on the dollar to local buyers making the production domestic.

"If you tell a lie big enough and tell it frequently enough, people will eventually come to believe it". What is an example of this happening today?

I would really rather that these were actual examples, and not conspiracy theories. We all have our own unsubstantiated ideas about what shadowy no-gooders are doing, but I’d rather hear about things that are actually happening.

Tosti ,
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Nah I’m good. It is typical that you use the CIA playbook. Immediately cast doubt and make counter accusations. I guess I won’t expect good faith.

You asserted that Chinese people are taught about this without any proof.

That which is asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof. In other words, put up or sit down.

Also immediately implying that what people know that is not the official Chinese party line is misinfo seems to be straight from the Trump playbook.

And finally you refer to “a chinese friend” as an authority, you pulled a hattrick of fallacious conversation in that post.
