Absolutely, there is sooooo much more content now and the balance and QoL is tonnes better too. Still recommend using the wiki late game though.

We’ve been using QGIS at my company for almost 8 years at this point and I really love it. The python integration and deep plugin repository render it head and shoulders above ESRI. Although I admit for enterprise solutions many will still require the turn-key solutions esri offer.

Got to speak with a guy who was stationed there over the winter. He said of the ~15 or so winter staff it was mostly engineering types, with the majority of the scientists there just in the summer months. Seemed like a pretty cool (heh) gig, but not too surprising that there’s a dearth of linux machines imo.

Some really weird picks here. A few standout bad takes:

  • Diablo 4
  • Football Manager
  • AC Odyssey
  • Mario Kart 8

I think there is a stark distinction between “really fun” and “one of the best games ever”. This list contains almost nothing which pushed against the barriers of gaming either now or in the past.

I’ve had more than one person I work with take screenshots of their desktop, paste them into a word document, then attach the word document to an email to get me to help them with their problem. This has the same energy.

Holy shit I’d completely forgotten about this guy -memory unlocked. Thanks (I think)!

Can anyone name some mysteries in stories where the answer ended up delivering and was better than the mystery itself?

I’ve watched shows, movies, read comics or listened to podcasts where there is a lot of build up around a mystery, only for the end to be lackluster. In these the journey itself was more riveting than where we ended up. What are some instances where the answer lived up to the hype?

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell comes to mind. A Jesuit priest is the only survivor of a first-contact flight to an alien world and returns horribly disfigured in mind and body and refuses to talk about what happened. We slowly learn what happened to everyone as the story unfolds. Great SF novel and not religious, although it explores religion.

At least not for another 20 years or so anyway.

I took a bus from Mendoza to Santiago that went down this road. Was pretty crazy at the time but still way less sketchy than the buses going through Bolivia.

For the most ethical of people going to business school. Everyone else lied.

As someone who also thought the first was just ‘ok’ - go watch it tonight. Dune 2 is the best sci-fi movie made in the last 25 years and maybe in the top 3 of all time. It absolutely does justice to the book(s) and is a total spectacle for the senses. Stop sleeping on it.

Yep, stuck at the airport currently. All flights grounded. All major grocery store chains and banks also impacted. Bad day to be a crowdstrike employee!

There is a fix people have found which requires manual booting into safe mode and removal of a file causing the BSODs. No clue if/how they are going to implement a fix remotely when the affected machines can’t even boot.

If you have an account you can view the support thread here: …crowdstrike.com/…/Tech-Alert-Windows-crashes-rel…

Workaround Steps:

  1. Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment
  2. Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory
  3. Locate the file matching “C-00000291*.sys”, and delete it.
  4. Boot the host normally.

TLJ is in my top 3 stories in all of gaming but the puzzles/gameplay are pretty terrible. I’d still highly recommend grabbing it for a few bucks on GOG and playing it with a walkthrough - the story is absolutely worth it.

I liked dreamfall as well but the story wasn’t as impactful to me. I actually backed chapters on kickstarter but never finished it. How are you enjoying it so far?

This one is good but Hungry Cat Nonograms is the best mobile picross game imo. Thousands of puzzles, amazing controls, beautiful art. It has ads which can be removed with a single in-app purchase. Been playing for almost 8 years and they’re still releasing weekly content.

I was also in this position, there is so much gaming content out there but the whole state of journalism seems to have really fallen off.

Last year I discovered MinnMax though and some of my faith has been restored. They are a community funded group of journalists and enthusiasts who run a weekly ~3 hour podcast about games and the industry. They are mature, lucid, insightful, and also pretty funny. They’ve also been doing a yearly best-of list for a long time which is a good jumping off point if you want to dip your toe in. Definitely recommend for anyone interested in gaming and the industry.

Climbing usually builds strength and helps to reduce chance of repetitive strain injuries. Finger injuries, however, are super common but fortunately don’t typically hinder typing.

I got a vasectomy when I was 31 and have never looked back. Would highly recommend it if you’re committed to being child free. Was a simple discussion with my (male) GP and after a few questions to make sure I understood the implications and that I had thought it through he gave me the referral.

I really feel bad for women - they have so much more stigma and a harder time with this in general, even in progressive countries.

I exclusively use phones with a 3.5mm jack. Currently on a Sony Xperia 1 IV. That said, I also use bluetooth IEMs sometimes and I like having the option of switching between wired/wireless when convenient.

Thanks for this. I was going to comment that corruption charges in India must either be punitive or politically motivated because it’s literally everywhere. I don’t think India in its current state would function without corruption.
