I don’t think “it’s weird therefore bad” is a good argument. If you’re gonna argue for veganism (which I don’t have a problem work doing!) I think there are way, way better reasons.

SpookyOperative ,

“it’s weird and should be more stigmatized” that seems to be making a moral claim right? I guess you never explicitly said that it’s because it’s weird that it should be stigmatized, but it certainly seemed to be structured like that.

And ah maybe I misunderstood, what you were saying just sounds like how a lot of ppl talk about it on the vegan forums I used to regular, lmao.

I’m curious to know what arch-based distro you’re talking about?

SpookyOperative ,

Can’t speak for the person you’re responding to, but honestly no, not really? Like, of course it’s a big deal that this stuff happens, but it’s so common that every individual story just seems obvious. It should def be recorded when we find those instances if not just for proof, but I personally just don’t care about seeing it my news. Especially when it seems pretty off topic for the technology sub.

I mean, I definitely consider my patched DWM as part of my dotfiles, just one that happens to be compiled. And if I can 1-up your pedantry, mine is in .local so it is literally in my "dot"files :P.

FreeBSD, GhostBSD, OpenBSD, Dragonfly BSD, Firefox Hardening - FOSS - git clone (lemmy.world)

I’m personally motivated in a non-commercial way to supply everyone with as much cybersecurity as possible in the interests of civlization, especially now. I’ve just finished what I wanted to releae as “set” 2 days ago and it’s time to announce them....

SpookyOperative ,

I don’t think I’d necessarily agree with that, but just to note, op is recommending the BSDs, not Linux.

SpookyOperative ,

I think that’s ridiculous. I vastly prefer FOSS and so I won’t use this, but clearly professional software being ported to Linux is a big deal for Linux and its userbase.

Should we ban discussion about any distro that’s not certified by the FSF? Should we ban news about proprietary Nvidia drivers?

SpookyOperative ,

??? There are thousands of companies that do business in the US that aren’t american.

SpookyOperative ,

This seems like a very reasonable and pretty tame warning?

SpookyOperative ,

This is such a ridiculous and biased article, and it’s not world news.

SpookyOperative ,

Wanting to restrict the rights of minorites isn’t a valid position. It’s vile and worthy of hatred.

SpookyOperative ,

Hell yea! I’ve used PopOS for a couple years now and it’s pretty fantastic. Being able to enable/disable it on the fly is super great, and you still have all the conveniences of a full DE.

Plus all other media

SpookyOperative ,

I don’t, but I definitely don’t think it would be wrong to. IP is an illegitimate idea, and has just as much legitimacy imo as a stranger telling me I’m obligated to pay them to breathe near them. I pay for some games as a donation, not a purchase.
