I don’t know what I’m doing differently but I really haven’t experienced the things everyone complains about. It’s been fine overall. Not a ton to see but that just means I don’t waste so much time.

Where do you live? You might be able to find it. I’m in small town Canada and I can find it at the grocery store. Check in the international or Mexican aisles if your stores have them. The most common brand near me is maseca or something like that. If you’re across the ocean, maaaybe you have an American aisle that might have it?

Personally, I prefer eating flour tortillas, but they are a little annoying to roll out with a rolling pin vs just pressing corn ones. I don’t think you can use a press for flour tortillas since gluten makes the dough behave differently than a corn dough would. You can roll out all the dough though and keep it in the fridge, just make sure to separate them with parchment or wax paper. I use wine bottles when my children have lost my rolling pin.

Flour tortillas are usually just ap flour, salt, lard or oil, and water. I haven’t made them in forever so I don’t have a recipe recommendation, but look around for one with those ingredients.

How many ingredients does it take to call it a salad?

My significant other ate cucumbers and onion with some ranch. I called it a cucumber onion salad. She says there aren’t enough ingredients to call it a salad, because “it takes multiple ingredients”. I pointed out she had three and asked what the minimum is. She refuses to answer so I ask Lemmy.

My favourite salad is good lettuce, sliced onion, salt, red wine vinegar, and olive oil. Also cucumber and onion is multiple ingredients.

One of my favourite things to eat in the summer

Cucumber and onion with a vinaigrette though is a delicious salad.

Kohlrabi is good! I think of it like a broccoli-flavoured potato.

My lawn is filled with wild strawberry but the birds eat them all and just leave me with the false strawberry.

Whoever was doing inventory must have been so confused.

Ranch goes better with meat, anyway. I’ve never liked it on salad.

I wonder if we do this in Canada. I’ve never heard of it.

This probably won’t help you but I’m saying it anyway just in case it does help.

I dealt with something similar for over a year that just wouldn’t get better even after I tried all the dandruff shampoos I could find at the store. My doctor prescribed this lotion called taro-mometasone (I think?) and within a week the dandruff was gone and it never came back. This was about 7 years ago, and I haven’t used the lotion since. And it was awful dandruff. It was becoming like scabs on my head and my hair was starting to fall out.

They don’t have tablets. My oldest has my old phone with everything blocked except a GBA emulator, music, and some educational games recommended by their teachers. They have a couple switch lites and we have one TV with Disney+, Netflix, and Youtube. I set up Youtube Kids profiles for them with whitelists so they can only watch channels I have specifically chosen for them. I don’t limit screen time, though. They don’t actually spend that much time watching TV or playing video games, and I’m pretty much always there with them when they do so I can talk with them about what they are watching or playing. I know it’s not the same for every kid but mine really don’t get sucked into screens. I’ve never been strict about it, even when they were babies. They usually can’t even finish a movie without getting bored and going to play outside or with actual toys.

We all have adhd so I thought screens would be a bigger challenge. I guess I got lucky.

I used to put mine in my butt pocket (the only semi-useful pocket we usually have), but then I dropped a phone into the toilet once.

Favorite cookware? (lemm.ee)

What is everyone’s preferred cookware around here? I have usually preferred cast iron cookware for most things that don’t involve acids but have recently started using carbon steel and prefer it for the lighter weight, longer handles and similar cooking properties. Enameled dutch oven for braising of course. I tried to stop...

I have a couple cast iron pans and I like them but they’re annoying to clean. I have a small sink and the cast iron pans are just too heavy and bulky to wash easily in it. I just got a cheap non-stick on sale and it’s so nice to just toss it in the dishwasher and not have to care. I haven’t really noticed a difference in food quality either to be honest but I’m mostly cooking what my kids like (which is almost nothing) so I’m not making anything fancy these days.
