Usually, applying the same tricks that Windows does, its not true.

But by default, mostl Linux ditros dont do something special for having performance managing.

But actually. Windows does neither, at least the pure Vanilla form. Its a huge difference when using my Levono Ideapad with the preinstalled Windows versus Windows that is reinstalled Vanilla without drivers. Then Linux is more plug and play and better at this job than Windows.

ReakDuck ,

I wish Windows (11) would have this. Literally having a broken Windows Partition right now after starting Rick an Morty VR adventure game…

I only use Windows for VR gaming

what do linuxers think of crostini??

for those who dont know, crostini is a feature available for chromeos that lets you install a debian container and has a cute terminal and lets you install linux software (can be from flathub, github, etc!!! woa!!). i love it so much and use it daily for programming python on my chromebook and crostini is what i mean when i say...

ReakDuck ,

Crostini sucked as so hard that I just wiped chromeos from my chromebook duet 3 anf installed Debian 12 on it. Much much faster too btw and it just doesn’t kill itself because its not a container anymore that suddenly Crostini can’t access and needs to be wiped.

I mean, its not bad sitting like that, its natural afaik

is it true that trans women like linux and are developers of open source???

i know that can be a stereotype but ive seen a lot of that, trans women are very based and cute so it wouldnt suprise me, and fun fact the reason why i moved to linux at first was because im nonbinary so that was kind of a requirement, but then i loved linux a lot but sadly i dont study linux science that would be amazing

ReakDuck ,

I randomly hit a few trans women who did use Linux in Germany. But it was just randomness.

I know enough people who prefer Linux without being trans/different. And enough trans people who just dont use Linux either. Its bias.

Or embedded devices, as they run like potato. Or create Glados with

Why does America look like poor Poland villages. But even poor Poland Villages have electric kettles.

ReakDuck ,

He technically was forced to buy it. He first wanted to buy it but then he didn’t want it anymore after he saw how many bots there are instead of actual users afaik. There was no return in this dealership or smth.

ReakDuck ,

I think it becomes a mixture of too early and delaying.

Some games clearly need another year to finish but they delay it for half a year and wont allow more for themselves

ReakDuck ,

Maybe he was Windows user and only got to know the depth of how to create a Object Oriented Class efficiently or smth.

But basic stufd like, using the terminal or smth, nah.

I always wanted an rss feed client. Now I have found something elegant without needing to research.

Switched to Linux, don't know what to do

Hello everyone, I just installed Linux (I’m new to it), in particular Linux Mint, with dual booted Windows for games. Tinkered with it a bit, loved the way it looked, loved how fast it is, but I really don’t want to stop on one option and stick with it for a while. I want to try new stuff, new distros (that’s how you call...

ReakDuck ,

KDE blows my mind again and again. Every corner has a Steam Workshop (as a metaphor) to download more stuff of the stuff

ReakDuck ,

I just wait for the Deckard… I hope this will be a thing, especially when seeing the SteamVR Beta, it got closer to the steam deck

ReakDuck ,

Fuck hell I am one of those persons. Just smoking a third is enough for me to get panic.

ReakDuck ,

I take your words for granted.

The urge exists a lot of times and I already am trying to quit cannabis. I often times notice how productive I was when I decided against cannabis use at the end of the night and could peacefully go to sleep earlier compared to cannabis use.

(I was a weekly user only or nearly monthly but never daily)

But even when I notice this pattern and understand it, I still have the urge that it will be a nice experience, even when often times its just barely doing something because of tiredness. It begins mostly with paranoia as this may be something I should memories for the next time I get an urge.

I feel like in a class. We learn the same memes, we remember the memes together

ReakDuck ,

How dare you have the newest hardware! Fuckin cheater

My system keeps booting into an install instead of the encrypted disk. [FIXED]

My system keeps booting into the live image of Pop!_OS 22.04 rather than my encrypted partition. I ran boot-repair-disk but the system keeps going to the install image. I verified that the bios is pointing to the correct disk at boot and I verified that my data is still in the encrypted partition....

ReakDuck , (edited )

~~Doesn’t it even tell you to unplug your Install medium.

Just unplug your USB drive and boot.

(I don’t want to sound too obvious, but at least do it first and tell me if it was really the only issue)~~

EDIT: I read in a comment that you did an upgrade.

ReakDuck ,

Sucks when the person doesn’t like to communicate with you and just ignores her own issues to just satisfy you.

I was less satisfied because I wasn’t allowed to figure it out and just felt like a bad person. The sex drive went down for her after a year, no wonder, but its not my fault either.

2 years later and I broke with her up as she was pretty manipulative and impossible to talk to from the beginning.

ReakDuck ,

From where do you think comes the Balmer peak?

xkcd.com/323/

ReakDuck ,

Fixed this issue with Windows 11 Ameliorated. Now I can play VR in peace and also scroll through firefox without feeling this terror. Usually I felt very soon disgusted and booted up my usual Linux OS as soon as I stopped playing, but the ameliorated version fixed this feeling.

ReakDuck ,

I think the CPU chips themselves are closed source but the architecture is open under MIT so this means anyone can close them

ReakDuck ,

I also hate Virtual box and prefer QEMU. Not sure why people don’t give you the freedom to use either.

ReakDuck ,

The university didn’t over an Image for qemu

Linux way way slower than Windows?

So I jumped ship from Windows to Kubuntu last night, and It’s mostly been pretty good. However my general performance of the computer has been abysmal. Like it takes upwards of 5 seconds to open anything. All of my hardware seems to be running at max speeds, so I have no idea why it would be so sluggish? It’s as if I’m...

ReakDuck ,

The thing I experienced on my laptop was: I used on Linux Max Performance while on windows I let it be the default (balanced or smth I think). The result: my Laptop hit way too often 100°C when playing games that my CPU throttled to 800mhz. It was a quick fix by just using balanced instead so it can decide for itself when to cool a tiny bit to not throttle, like windows.

There are multiple tools to set the Intel Power Management Profile to “Balanced” instead of “Performance”

ReakDuck ,

Install “nvtop” to see all GPUs Performance graph. I do not remember if Intel was supported for Performance graph, but at least you can see a change for your AMD GPU.

There are AMD Top tools to see all data from AMD too.

ReakDuck ,

For me, Garuda Linux with Gnome or KDE felt very laggy. But this experience is old.

But a lot of distros do feel much smoother than Windows for me too.

ReakDuck ,

Still cheaper than what Microsoft is pulling off with Windows Licenses for years

ReakDuck ,

Same, but I figured out that on Plasma X11 they won’t show up while on Plasma Wayland they do… (was it random?)

ReakDuck ,

I saw the cool feature of ChromeOS Desktop where you can save all open Window states inside a Workspace and resume them on another day again. Never used it on ChromeOS as I am not sure how but this seems easily possible soon with Plasma 6 where you can hibernate or rather store the current state of your Window.

ReakDuck ,

Yeah, I tried Hyprland but never really felt alright coming from KDE because I don’t have the skill learning all config apps like eww or wayfire Panel etc.

A community workshop thing like KDE does would be even more awesome.

ReakDuck ,

I am so satisfied with my Windows Amliorated version because it will never have Microsoft updates ever again, only through playbooks. Every bad thing is removed. I just love it and ots the first time I actually feel comfortable and not betrayed. I feel like the OS is mine and not an entity with its own desire and magic.

But of course I use Arch linux btw. Only using Windows for VR gaming

ReakDuck ,

But now I am curious what the rant would be about.

ReakDuck ,

What kind of attacks could I expect on a Linux Machine? Especially when using bare Arch Linux and only setting up software that I consume (Minecraft Server, Zerotier)

ReakDuck ,

After using many different distros, I feel everywhere a little incompetent when trying to fix simple issues.

Arch Linux for some reason always makes things easy and easy fixable in case things go bad.

ReakDuck ,

I think thats why it was cheap. Afaik things are changing

ReakDuck ,

It has nothing to do with quantity.

Electric cars have batteries that need cobalt and other stuff that is hard to get which a normal gas car would never need.

ReakDuck ,

Its still a high technical skill you ask there. Its just a different field
