@Kellyshenanigans @dbc3 @Zumbador @actuallyautistic Is it like cilantro, where some people love it and some hate it? I find it unpleasant

@servelan @Kellyshenanigans @dbc3 @Zumbador @actuallyautistic Oddly I neither like nor dislike coriander/cilantro. As it's apparently a fragrant herb I don't get much. As I only get the base taste with none of the aromatics , to me it doesn't really taste of anything at all. it's just ... well "green"

I only get salt, sweet, sour, bitter and umami .. as well as burning from pepper and cooling from mints.

never known anything different of course, so this is "perfectly normal" for me.

see, to me "antiseptic" makes me think of "clean" but then also of "bleach" and perhaps "Soap"

while i'm happy to eat "clean" food I'm not keep to eat "bleach" flavoured chicken (for example)

so in this aspect my word association means antiseptic smelling would be a bad thing??

reading into the context of your statement I think that's the case??

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic @actuallyaudhd @autisticadvocacy it's a good baseline when talking to other 'spoonies' but elicits blank confused stares from most neurotypicals when I tell them "Sorry, I can't do <thing> because I'm out of spoons" and they wonder what spoons have to do with anything.

I will say I'm "drained" or "burnt-out" and explain that tasks are like Jenga bricks. Every task or sensory issue removes a brick.

One or two are OK but eventually the tower becomes unstable

@axnxcamr @pathfinder @Moondancer @actuallyautistic I would have liked to have been diagnosed a teeny bit earlier than 45, perhaps in my 30's but I am so thankful I wasn't diagnosed in my school days.

I remember my primary school having a special class that a deaf student went to. She was otherwise bright but because she was deaf she didn't get a chance.

I ended up in the special class myself for one morning due to a new teacher who didn't know about my speech defect. class just laughed :(

@SDZ @bookstodon I have a thing for old Sci fi book covers.

one that springs instantly to mind is this one for the book "The Rings of Saturn" by Isaac Asimov

@SDZ @bookstodon ah yes. I loved the work of Niven, Particularly his Ringworld books.

I remember that book. I am sure I have a copy myself but with a different cover.

iirc it was a story of first contact with a fast breeding warlike race of furry aliens who constantly cycle their civilisation through periods of growth and inevitable collapse. I vaguely remember something about them being permanently pregnant or something. Been a while since i read it.

aha. Found the cover of my copy.
