Do you want to let us uninitiated know what he was right about?

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

Im familiar with the X-men and I know who Magneto is, I just thought you were referring to something specific.

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

There’s definitely an argument to be made that the mutants should have the right to live their lives. I guess it depends on how much you think “violence” and “by any means necessary” are justified.

To bring a real world example into the conversation, the Palestinians decided that violence was necessary. Some condemn them for it, some ask “what other choice did they have?”

Obviously, the sympathizers will see you as the hero, and the opponents will see you as the villain. Is it better to go onto hiding like Prof. X and his crew or to stand up and fight like Magneto and his? And how much and what kind of collateral damage is acceptable? It’s a war that has been fought for ages in many different places - the battle between the oppressors and the oppressed.

I’ve been told (by a zoomer) all the zoomer love for the series is ironic. Do you think that’s true?

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

Thanks, maybe I’ll give it a try. I jumped on the brony bandwagon years ago (though I’ve let that go now) so I’m keen to give the new things a fair shot.

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

Same. I still like the characters and the personalities the fandom built around them, but the show hits different now. That’s why I like shows like Adventure Time and Steven Universe because they already had a more “mature kid” kind of spin, less black and white morality, even though they still tended to make enemies friends in the end.

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

I’ve only been seriously coding for about 2 years (and not full-time as I have another full time job that I’m trying to get out of) and I almost passed 4/5 of the coding tests that I took for one interview (I did pass one, but realized my solution wouldn’t pass all tests - though it did pass the ones given - so I was working to retool it when time ran out). The 5th one was in C++ and I don’t know shit about that syntax. Idk if it was legal, but I have two monitors and used a cheat sheet for the JavaScript and C++ one.

I think with your experience, you’ll probably do fine unless you get anxiety from the clock ticking down.

Pandantic OP ,

But competition would force these middlemen to make their services better, lower prices, etc. This whole comment doesn’t get to the heart of this matter, regardless whether ticket master is a scapegoat, the ticket selling industry would be better off if there was more competition.

Also, isn’t it still wrong of companies like ticket master to bully artists with their top-down control of venues and promoting?

Pandantic OP ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

Your comment is confusing me.

While I agree that Ticketmaster is a fucked up monopoly,

Implies that what you’re going to say next is something that either excuses them or is worse than them, but you go on to say:

the only one fucked were those buying tickets.

Which, imo, is true but does not follow the logic of the “while” statement.

Then you go on to say:

Taylor will easily survive another day; those that sold their pancreases for a seat…not so much

Which makes me think you are blaming Taylor Swift for Ticketmaster’s prices, or at least saying that she is complacent in some way. But the point is the prices were set by Ticketmaster, and padded with exorbitant fees that Taylor had no control over.

Implying that it was an effort, but you are welcome to it. Whereas “no problem” denotes that the effort is was not a problem for me to do. I use them interchangeably - “you’re welcome” as a response to a complement, or something where there was moderate effort put into the task; “no problem” when the task was low effort (“Thanks for responding to that email so quickly”) or I feel my effort was obliged (helping pick up after a meeting).

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

Disagree, no problem is saying that what you are thanking me for was not a problem for me to do.

Honestly, I think this perception is the disconnect between millennials thinking it’s better and boomers thinking it’s rude - two different perspectives of what it means.

Also, don’t ackchyually me on an opinion.

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

Hey do you guys know what “you’re welcome” is in Spanish? “De Nada” which means “of nothing”. Sounds almost like, “no problem”.

This phrase isn’t new, either. It’s been around for centuries, just like the first instances of “you’re welcome”.

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

And I see it totally opposite. Interesting.

Also, can you cite this “traditionally” you reference?

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

Wow, because the DMV uses it? Thanks for the source! Wait, I’ve heard a person at the DMV say “no problem” before…

Also, I was asking the original commenter about the “traditional” use of “no problem”.

“So,” said Arthur, hoping he wasn’t sounding ridiculously obtuse, “why don’t people get rid of the lizards?” “It honestly doesn’t occur to them,” said Ford. “They’ve all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they’ve voted in more or less approximates to the government they want.” “You mean they actually vote for the lizards?” “Oh yes,” said Ford with a shrug, “of course.” “But,” said Arthur, going for the big one again, “why?” “Because if they didn’t vote for a lizard,” said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in.”

Pandantic ,

I was hoping they would say in this article what they did to fix it!

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

It depends on how harmful that opinion is. You prefer vanilla ice cream because you like the mild flavor - cool, difference of opinion. You prefer there were no same-sex marriages because your religion is against it - no, that affects other people’s lives so if you want me to respect that opinion you would have to have a good argument.

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

You may not like it, but this is what commitment looks like.

So is wet dog smell evolutionary or do all dog-shapes just smell similar when wet?

Pandantic , (edited )
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

I was thinking the same thing. I mean, I just did a coding test for a potential job, and I know I did at least as good as, and likely better than this.

edit: just to prove to myself, I went ahead and wrote the program without looking things up. I’m self-taught so I feel pretty proud. It took about 25 mins, and it works!

I’m really feeling this right now, having almost succeeded at something that I eventually failed. Thanks for this. ❤️

Michael Dunn cracks up Leonard Nimoy (**TOS**: ***Plato's Stepchildren***) (i.imgur.com)

At one point Dunn was considered by Gene Roddenberry for the part of Spock in The Cage. He was also originally considered for the role of Balok in The Corbomite Maneuver, but that part eventually went to Clint Howard. (source: These Are the Voyages)...

This is my favorite episode of TOS! All of it, but especially his acting at the end. Very human, very touching.

I can’t speak to whether this is true, but Musk did later that day announce that the Robotaxi release will be August 8th, which he’s always said is going to be on the same platform. I don’t see why they wouldn’t also make the “model 2” once they are to scale since not all people want to use / will trust robotaxi at first. But any announcements they make on this car before they can actually deliver will take sales away from their models available now.

Where I work in the US midwest, we are lucky if we get coverage when we take time off (let alone call-in sick) and are understaffed in all departments teacher-level and below payscale-wise (para, custodial, transportation, etc.). But I’m sure it’s different depending on the location, but that’s my experience.

Pandantic ,
@Pandantic@midwest.social avatar

Same, to the extent we have a google form to fill out when we cover an opening on our prep so we get compensated for it.

Though I loved Steven A. Smith’s smokey-voiced play-by-play of how Hillary fucked up, - just like CNN would be expected to do - he focus on how this comment hurt her and Joe Biden’s standing because is would “alienate voters” and the margins are thin, but not how wrong and almost grotesque it is for a politician to say, “You have to vote for me, because of how bad the other guy is!”

Like, yeah, you rigged this system and now because of your own decisions, you have made it a tenuous situation. You have two choices - change or let the other guy win. What do you want, democrats? You tell us it’s an emergency! Why don’t you get to it! And we won’t fall for bullshit promises, we want action now - especially on the urgent stuff like Palestine. You gave us the vote, and we’re using it Libs.

Almost got it! HMU stands for “hit me up”, as in contact me.

Pandantic ,

Absolutely, I’m just relaying what I’ve heard in case the commenter wants to talk with some youths in their vernacular. I don’t want them to be all “holler me up my fellow kids!”
