Lemmchen ,

But as a third party you can not know which clients are using this outdated http mirror. On BitTorrent you can see every participating peers and some of them are probably enduser machines (depending on the actual implementation of OP’s suggestion).

I've decided to switch to Linux Mint, but i have a lot of pirated games. How to play them with all the cracks and stuff in linux?

I have decided to switch to Linux Mint from windows. I don’t use computer for work that much. And for my personal use I’m switching to Linux Mint. I have heard a lot about it. So giving it a try. I know about emulating windows in linux to play window games. But how do you use cracks and stuff?? Does emulating also access my...

Lemmchen ,

I didn’t have much luck with Bottles in the past, but this is entirely anecdotal.

Lemmchen ,

You can also run firefox -p in the terminal.

kagi.com/summarizer/?target_language=&summary=sum…

The video discusses criticism of the Linux Foundation and how it spends its funds. While the Linux Foundation is the largest employer of Linux kernel developers, only 2-3% of its budget goes towards that. The rest is spent on various other projects like blockchain, AI, and cloud computing. The video creator argues that the Linux Foundation should allocate more of its funding towards improving the Linux desktop ecosystem, which is underfunded compared to these other initiatives. However, the video acknowledges that the Linux Foundation is beholden to the interests of its corporate members, who likely prioritize the other areas the foundation supports. The video presents the creator’s perspective, while recognizing the Linux Foundation’s right to spend its money as it sees fit.

ytdl: Simple wrapper to yt-dlp with only a subset of options. (github.com)

ytdl is a small script for Linux as an alternative interface to yt-dlp (which itself is a fork from youtube-dl, to download YouTube videos). My goal is to make some of its functionality a bit more accessible for the daily usage. This includes predefined settings and narrowing it down to options I care most about.

Lemmchen ,

Doesn’t seem that much simpler, tbh.

Wait, explicit sync is kind of a bug big deal, right?

Lemmchen OP ,

Consumer CPUs were lacking ECC reporting, so you never really knew if ECC was correcting errors or not.

Looking for emotional support: I lost all my WhatsApp chats

I was so confident that WhatsApp was backing itself up to Google ever since I got my new pixel but I just wasn’t. Then yesterday I factory reset my phone to fix something else and I lost it all. Years worth of chats from so many times in my past just aren’t there, all my texts with my mom and my family, group chats with old...

Lemmchen ,

If you want to prevent something like this in the future, use a tool like Syncthing to automatically sync the local backup to other devices like a computer.

Lemmchen ,

I’m not sure what your comment is supposed to contribute. Should the developers stop developing the software? What changes do you expect?

Lemmchen ,

Krush Kill 'n Destroy developers joined the group.

Lemmchen ,

Lemmy uses Markdown for formatting, just like Reddit.

Lemmchen ,

There’s a way to run the client on Linux now? Awesome!

Lemmchen ,

Shit, this kinda screws with my plans to use the A380 as a transcoding card for my server.

Lemmchen ,

I don’t see how this is relevant to this at all.

Lemmchen ,

Our data includes anonymized API calls to traditional search indexes like Google, Yandex, Mojeek and Brave, specialized search engines like Marginalia, and sources of vertical information like Wolfram Alpha, Apple, Wikipedia, Open Meteo, Yelp, TripAdvisor and other APIs

I don’t want to be that guy, but technically they said they are using traditional indexes like Google, not that they are in fact using Google. But I guess that is splitting hairs.
Also, maybe they just dropped Google from their indexes? And what’s more: Why does it matter if they are using Google at all, when the results are satisfying?

Knowing which indexes they are using exactly would be nice to know, though.

Lemmchen ,

If I’m not mistaken “su” stands for “switch user”, not " super user".

Lemmchen ,

With current hardware support I would advise against using AV1 or even H.265.

I’d recommend to experiment with H.264 and low CRF values to see what quality loss and file size OP is comfortable with: trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Encode/H.264

Lemmchen ,

Keep in mind at least your server should be able to decode whatever you choose in hardware, so AV1 might still not be a good idea depending on your current hardware and upgrade plans.

Lemmchen ,

You’re right, I forgot about the on-the-fly transcoding abilities of Jellyfin for a moment. But still, the server should be able to handle whatever codec they choose in hardware.

Lemmchen ,

Depending on your jurisdiction. Big asterisk.

Lemmchen ,

Old smartphones, old CPUs/GPUs, some SBCs.

Lemmchen ,

I’d recommend to go with some form of mini PC. If you don’t need much CPU power there are some very cheap N100 ones where you can upgrade the RAM.

Lemmchen ,

Yes, the only real drawback is the single channel memory connection, but that’s rarely a bottleneck.

Lemmchen ,

From the ones you mentioned only Matrix supports full E2EE.

Lemmchen ,

If you need E2EE there’s only Matrix. I wish it wasn’t the only option, but it is. For setting up rooms and so on you can use their Spaces feature, I think.

I’ve been looking for an alternative, too: feddit.de/post/8502516

Does Forgejo have implemented federation yet?

Are there any working tools to rip an entire Instagram account?

I don’t have an account myself, and the photos and videos I’m trying to download en masse belong to a famous person’s public account. Is there anything I can use to do it (as long as it’s not creating an account lol), preferably proxied tools as apparently I get blocked while behind a VPN?...

Lemmchen ,

What happens if my brother gets banned for cheating while playing my game?

If a family member gets banned for cheating while playing your copy of a game, you (the game owner) will also be banned in that game. Other family members are not impacted.

That kinda sucks.

Lemmchen ,

Upgradeable parts = non-soldered RAM and SSD?

Lemmchen ,

Does anyone know how they handle spoofed malware? I can never figure out whether I can trust the packages from flathub. I always have to check the official website of the particular software first.

Lemmchen ,

Something like Immich or PhotoPrism is probably the way to go.

Lemmchen , (edited )

Your link doesn’t work for me on Jerboa.

Lemmchen , (edited )

Now it works.

Lemmchen ,

Their Emulator can’t even run SNES games at a stable framerate.

Lemmchen , (edited )

Do I have to manually install PPD?

Lemmchen ,

Why -crf 0?

Lemmchen ,

I’ve heard that the size difference between 720p and 1080p for HEVC/h.265 is neglectable, so you should probably stick to 1080p for better quality.

But honestly I think what you want to do is neither worth the effort nor is the result very desirable.

It is a huge failure in communication to pretend that distro upgrades are entirely different versions of the operating system. It does nothing but make Linux seem more complex than it actually is.

The jump in distro versions, say, from Fedora 38 to Fedora 39, is not the same as the jump from Windows 10 to Windows 11. It’s more like the jump from version 23H2 to 24H2....

Lemmchen ,

For Ubuntu it is also pretty obvious that the versioning is YEAR.MONTH and that there’s always a .04 and .10 and it should be clear that there aren’t two major upgrades per year.

Lemmchen ,

Nice, I was one of those affected by the -20dB bug.
