This is the reason I’ve never used discord outside voice chatting with friends a few times per month.

A basic photo from my phone is over the file size limit. It’s essentially unusable, and I’m not going to get me and my friends and family to all pay a subscription for a feature literally every other chat app provides for free. Sorry.

Reddit was full of Digg comments for a while.

Imgur was full of Reddit comments for a while (when Imgur decided to become their own social platform).

Lemmy is going to be full of Reddit comments for a while.

One thing I don’t understand is why would meta even federate with anyone outside of their own instances anyway?

Makes no sense to ever open up to allow any other instances in. Not like they are crying for users.

The fediverse just makes sense in their own bubble. Turn Facebook, Instagram, and their other apps into the fediverse and federate them all together.

I don’t expect them to ever open up to the actual fediverse. Same with BlueSky. I feel like all of these companies will USE the fediverse but in a closed bubble.

Ready to take the plunge and spin up a Lemmy server but I'm already stuck trying to come up with a domain name.

As the title says, I’m ready to fire up a Lemmy server of my own. I have a suitable VPS running Debian 11. I think I can probably make short work of it once I get past this one difficult point. What should I call my Lemmy server? With catchy names out there like “Lemmy.World” and “sh.itjust.works”, I really want to...

All of those domains sound like blogspam domains.

How is WearOS doing in 2023?

I’m thinking about making a return from Garmin in the near future with Samsung announcing the Galaxy Watch 6 making a return with the ever-so-popular rotating bezel, and Google is now focused on their own Pixel Watch. For people who are currently using a WearOS device, what are your thoughts on the current state of the...

JshKlsn ,

I may be weird, but I hate my WearOS devices. I highly prefer a Mi Band.

It gives me all of the same info my WearOS watch does (heart rate, spo2, sleep tracking, steps, app notifications, timers, alarms, phone call alerts, weather, etc) but is a more comfortable compact package, and the battery lasts 5+ days vs 18-25 hours. Not to mention the price is usually 5-15x cheaper.

I know I’m a minority, but I genuinely don’t understand why people want a WearOS watch?

JshKlsn ,

What do you mean by being able to see the time instantly?

My miband has an always on OLED display (if you want it) or the ability to have lift to wake with all of the different delays and sensitivities.

If anything, I’d say my miband shows the time quicker. My watch is also LED, not OLED, which is a bummer.

JshKlsn ,

Ya, my mi band has that, too. It’s called always on display. Since it’s OLED, it doesn’t cause a ton of battery drain, and I can see the time without lifting it.

If you know nothing about password managers to the point where you’re asking a question like this, you should at least start with a cloud based manager.

Also if you use a reputable company, you’re pretty safe. BitWarden is great. LastPass has been absolute bottom of the barrel for years now after LogMeIn bought them.

Redditors already scream at people when they get a downvote and blame it on the person that replies to them, even if that person didn’t downvote them.

I can see this being dangerous and leading to a lot of bullying. I know k-bin already publicly shows this. I can see who downvotes my comments/posts when I open up the post in a k-bin instance, without even being a member.
