@MudMan

I think this is an interesting topic

This comment from an old Reddit post seems to contain some knowledge, imo

https://reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/s/1SHtAFS093

As noted in that comment, in reading Goethe’s Faust I remember distinctly that line, ERITUS SICUT DEUS, SCIENTES BONUM ET MALUM.

Something about its oldness, religiosity and simplicity make it magical to me

@ssorbom @PP_BOY_ Banning porn would probably cause a lot of growth in porn over Tor / ActivityPub though. So that’d be a positive that would come from such a situation.

@wahming @AllenSmithee Press X for Doubt.

If you had said sugar is not solely to blame I might consider that thesis but pretending as though sugar is not a core part of the problem is… an interesting take, which I do not believe.

What are slimemold’s credentials? Do they cite research? Just curious. This non-HTTPs website seems like a dubious source to me. But I might be wrong. That is a cursory judgement.

Will check out if there’s any research cited that promotes that thesis

@wahming I’ve only read a little but it’s very well written. I apologize if I came off rude. I was just surprised.

I definitely am swayed by the discussion, FTR

So interesting to me when I see this opinion. May I ask, are you American?

I am American and feel as though I’ve seen an uptick of people feeling this way.

@dartos @Awoo what about capitalism made it great ? It was the people that made it great imo it just came to be under capitalism

What made you choose your instance?

Following the spirit of spreading across the Fediverse (and because my main instance is down so many times, because diverse reasons) I’m intrigued about the joining instance process, because I honestly don’t know what criteria to have in order to join another one if I ever want to do it....

@kratoz29 Beehaw. Seemed like a great community.

@kratoz29 Obviously I wrote this from Mastodon though so I still primarily use kbin/Lemmy through mastodon. But when I do pop over to the other Lemmy apps I tend to login through my Beehaw account.

@kratoz29 Yes it appeared in my feed. I am not sure exactly what I followed to enable that lol. I’ll go look into it

Community-driven open-souce LLM

I’m looking for an open-source alternative to ChatGPT which is community-driven. I have seen some open-source large language models, but they’re usually still made by some organizations and published after the fact. Instead, I’m looking for one where anyone can participate: discuss ideas on how to improve the model, write...

@lily33 Yes. There are a number I believe that fit these criteria hosted on Hugging Face I feel. Bloom is the first one that came to mind.

Ironically I asked ChatGPT this question and it responded to check out EleutherAI. I do not know anything about that group but looks like they may have helped worked on Bloom, so maybe they are worthy of consideration. Anyway here is Bloom.

@lily33 like Github, HuggingFace is a private company that can host public models. I'm pretty sure this one is fully public. But you're right that it does look like someone from HF started it so perhaps it does not meet your criteria after all. My apologies if so.

I was (am?) of the understanding though that Bloom is being researched openly such that it can be reproduced locally (and contributed to on HF)

@beefcat @Overboard8171 I didn't know that. This the first time I've legitimately intended to go to a website that is a .website TLD now that you mention it though...

Too bad, seems like a solid TLD. I guess .app,.social,.world - those I see all the time.

Personally my favorite is .lol websites.
