“Pre-alpha” would be if they hadn’t started coding. It’s alpha. There’s something you can play, it’s just buggy and incomplete and thus not beta. Alpha for this long has enough stigma, you don’t need to exaggerate like that.

@Heavybell@lemmy.world avatar

Gentoo because it’s what I know, and I know enough to make it do what I want.

Pot calling the kettle black, methinks.

True, they’re clearly mad they’re not the ones with monopoly powers.

Okay? But when my Firefox uses Chrome’s useragent string, the delay also disappears.

I absolutely think there are some things as a species we should not put up with, racial supremacy hate speech being one of them. At the same time, because there is other content out there which some people dislike but which is not harmful, I wish we could stop worrying so much about what content ads are sitting next to.

Heavybell ,
@Heavybell@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I know. I wish our brains were less dumb.

Heavybell ,

Okay, but what about people on the fringes? People who want to be able to post about sex positivity, risque artwork, and other stuff that exists in civil society but some people would prefer to pretend didn’t.

OK Microsoft... trying to log into Teams while work lapop updates to Windows 11. No longer works in any iPhone browser, including Edge. The app will not authenticate my work login. (lemmy.world)

Update…Per Microsoft’s instructions, disabled all tracking protections in Safari and requested desktop mode and it works. Their instructions say turn protections back on after using teams… 😐...

Heavybell ,

Whenever I log into teams on my home PC, Firefox pops up to be like “hey, teams is asking to use cookies from microsoftonline.com is that okay?” It’s possible Safari is enforcing something like that but without the prompt.

Nice choice on both. Death Stranding in particular I think I put more effort into building infrastructure to trivialise or avoid walking than I did on anything else. And I loved it.

X runs ‘timeline takeover’ ad promoting anti-trans film (techcrunch.com)

Thursday on X (Twitter), all users saw the same pinned topic under the “What’s happening?” sidebar. As part of a “timeline takeover” — which gives advertisers “priority access to logged-in users’ first impression of the day” — conservative media nonprofit PragerU is promoting the hashtag “#DETRANS” to...

I am still a little unclear on what this means. Isn’t the idea of passkeys that they’re stored on your PC’s TPM? What does Bitwarden “supporting passkeys” mean in that case? Are they not stored on the device if you use Bitwarden?

Heavybell ,
@Heavybell@lemmy.world avatar

So it’s just one half of a key pair stored in Bitwarden, then? And you authenticate to Bitwarden as usual?

Allow me to slide a plug for Frostpunk and Outer Wilds (and its excellent almost-a-sequel DLC Echoes of the Eye) in here, just in case you haven’t touched them. Oh, and Subnautica too. And Disco Elysium…

Would you prefer if games had a separate difficulty setting for boss fights?

I usually play games on “normal” difficulty these days, for a balanced challenge. However, I don’t particularly enjoy boss fights, or at least I don’t enjoy the extra challenge associated with them. Was thinking it would be nice if games had a separate setting so I could just set boss fights to “easy”, while not...

Sure, I’m generally in favour of more options when feasible. Hell, if someone wants to skip 90% of a single player game, more power to them. Hell, any non-competitive online game too, though I doubt many publishers would consider not charging extra for it…

Where does the fact some people will happily jerk it exclusively to anime titty come into this, I wonder?

Why is everything RISC-V some low power device, I want a workstation with PCIe 5.0 powered by RISC-V.

That makes sense.

That’s promising at least :)

That’s right. There was a war called the Butlerian Jihad in which humanity wiped out anything close to AI. Since then it has been high-treason-level illegal to “make a machine in the image of the human mind”.

Dude, there are yellow and red reverse cards in a Uno deck, WTF did you bring a green one for? :P

Heavybell ,
@Heavybell@lemmy.world avatar

Not really. The biggest problem I have with file management on android is from crossplatform apps that assume the user is on iOS. E.g. The patreon app saves every image as “patreon image.png” in the downloads folder rather than keeping the uploader’s filename or letting me specify where I want it, and the bluesky app saves everything to my “photo reel” (i.e the DCIM folder). Both things that don’t happen if I open them from a browser.

I do like the idea of eternal life, but I also like the idea of my earthly remains – be that all that exist sof me or not – being absorbed back into the earth when I’m gone. That doesn’t seem so bad.

How much better is the HDR support in Win11? Does it stop your desktop looking washed out when turned on?

Heavybell ,
@Heavybell@lemmy.world avatar

Might finally have to give it a look then. I have a good HDR monitor now but it looks so bad with HDR turned on when not in a game.

MS SQL Server has this thing called Replication. It’s a feature to keep tables in sync between databases, and even database servers. There’s merge replication (two way), snapshot replication (one way scheduled publishing), and transaction replication (one way live-ish publishing).

And the logic is all implemented in T-SQL stored procedures.

I fucking hate it.

Imagine a fat, old, or otherwise unfit civilian who has purchased tactical-looking gear and weapons, which he uses for aggressive posturing. That’s my understanding of the term.

    Goodbye Youtube and thanks for all the fish (infosec.pub)

    Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....

    Heavybell ,
    @Heavybell@lemmy.world avatar

    Wait, what’s Youtube History?

    Heavybell ,

    “Jill of the Jungle” is an ancient DOS game, and honestly a bit sexploitative. But it does feature a female protag. And is old.

    Heavybell ,
    @Heavybell@lemmy.world avatar

    Isn’t there a line in the bibble that basically amounts to “if you all agree on it, I’ll go along with whatever” from god? Something like “if you hold it true on earth, I will hold it true in heaven”?

    Heavybell ,
    @Heavybell@lemmy.world avatar

    Nah that’s not the part I’m talking about. 99% sure.

    Heavybell ,

    Looking for game recommendations

    I’m a casual gamer who’s been largely inactive for the past few decades, and so I’m looking for some some good game recommendations. I don’t mind if they’re old as long as they came out after 2003 (because that’s when graphics of many games really started improving), maybe between 2008-2019. I’m also quite a picky...

    If you can get Saints’ Row 2 or 3 working you may like them.

    I know you don’t like management games but you might still enjoy Frostpunk as it’s a bit more like an RTS since it’s about build order when you really get down to it. It is apocalyptic but it’s hopeful rather tgan depressing (for the most part) or “haha you can do anything cus no laws”.

    Man your list of nos really eliminates most of my repertoire… :P Have you considered XCOM, XCOM 2 or XCOM Chimera Squad?

    Oh! Prey (2016) is a good immersive sim you might- oh it’s set in a space station, nvm…

    Ah! Okay, this is a space game, but since you liked Stanley Parable you might be okay with this… Outer Wilds. Don’t look it up, you’ll spoil it. Just get it and play it, seriously. Get it on steam and use a timer so you can refund it if you hate it, but you really really really need to give it a shot.

    Heavybell ,
    @Heavybell@lemmy.world avatar

    Outer WIlds is a first person mystery adventure game. Knowledge is the only progression, so you must go in blind or you’ll really miss out on some of the experience. I love it, I hope you do too.

    Also the DLC Echoes of the Eye is basically a sequel, and very very good too.

    I am not gonna disagree with you, but I remember playing half-life on it with no problems. Of course, you couldn’t play DOS games on it, if that’s what you mean.
