Don’t know why you got down voted for that. HDR might be the only reason I use 11.

Met her in Copperbell Mines in FFXIV.

Link to the Past for being my first. Twilight Princess for the modern era.

How does the day-to-day work of not wearing shoes in the house?

I have been reading a lot lately about not wearing outside shoes in the house and it interests me even more because I’ve been saving to re-carpet my whole house. It hits me every now and then about how to do things though, like, say I’m cooking all day on Sunday then need to take the trash out. I’m assuming it’s change...

GaMEChld ,

I wear whatever I want whenever I want. I have no carpets to fuss over, and I have cats so you never know when you might step in some mess. We vacuum and mop regularly so don’t really care.

GaMEChld ,

You mean lease it? Rent it? Own implies it’s mine period. Not mine until they decide to remove it. A bank can’t take away your house cuz they feel like it after you’ve paid for it.

Ubisoft Exec Says Gamers Need to Get 'Comfortable' Not Owning Their Games for Subscriptions to Take Off (www.ign.com)

Ubisoft Exec Says Gamers Need to Get ‘Comfortable’ Not Owning Their Games for Subscriptions to Take Off::An executive at Assassin’s Creed maker Ubisoft has said gamers will need to get “comfortable” not owning their games before video game subscriptions truly take off.

GaMEChld ,

Gamer here. Go fuck yourself Ubisoft. You can quote me on that.

GaMEChld ,

I will grant that it is different. But is it meaningfully different? Either way, the people are not represented.

GaMEChld ,

Fair enough. I’ll never argue against being specific and accurate!

GaMEChld ,

Semantics. It’s genocide then. Or some other more technical term. There’s a word for it, who cares? Everyone knows what we mean. And that’s the point of words. To covey a meaning from one mind to another.

If you want to play the semantics game and abolish in-context definitions of words, then abolish all slang and idioms too.

GaMEChld ,

If you want to safeguard your work from yourself, you’ll need to lean on someone you trust. Give the person you trust ownership and control over your cloud materials and set it up so you can contribute edits but cannot delete.

GaMEChld ,

How would I deal with this? By being kind.

GaMEChld ,

Oh I did? Well, I would need the specific problems to provide specific solutions.

Why did terrorists kill my population? Let’s get problem solving.

GaMEChld ,

Lol. Ok. Easy, I declare peace. And immortality. GG. What’s next?

GaMEChld ,

They can’t, my people are now immortal. I give Hammas infinity raisins.

GaMEChld ,

Nope, I simply answered nonsense with nonsense. You don’t get to create some nonsensical Kobayashi Maru scenario with vague definitions and ambiguous starting parameters.

Let’s get real. You want to know what I would do in response to the initial terrorist attack that Israel faced? It wouldn’t be genocide against Gaza. My response would be rooted in the truth that you cannot rule without consent of the governed. The entire reality that Israel was trying to live was a sham that was never going to be a stable solution.

GaMEChld ,

What are you talking about? When I say consent of the governed, I am referring to living Palestinians.

GaMEChld ,

Credit cards are fine for people who can control their spending. I never pay interest, so I get my rewards for free and am building my credit. If you cannot control your spending habits, you might consider a card with a low limit.

People who can don't get mad and just go with the flow, how do you do it?

Here recently it seems like everything just gets under my skin so quickly and easily. It’s not that I get mad and take it out on others, it’s just the fact that I’m constantly annoyed and stressed. Something as simple as the dogs tracking some mud through the house will just ruin my mood. I know some people who would just...

GaMEChld ,

I played Overwatch until my mind realigned. Not joking. I was frustrated that running into irrational people in that game would in turn make me irrational. I figured, the opposite should be true too. Rationality should be able to calm and blunt irrationality. And once I realized that, it kind of became an academic exercise to me. I was nice and friendly on purpose and the quality of all my matches went through the roof. Even games that were loses were agreed to be excellent matches by both teams. Which sounds like ridiculous fiction, but it’s the truth.

GaMEChld ,

Even if it doesn’t, at minimum you will have more fun and have friendlier interactions. Ultimately, we have to remember we are voluntarily playing these games for our own enjoyment. If they make us miserable, we need to change the way we interface with the game or just stop playing them.

GaMEChld ,

How might entropy be meaningfully reversed?

GaMEChld ,

No they don’t. There is an ever increasing amount of gold diggers, and not a lot of gold havers to go around. So a few gold diggers are happy, and many are endlessly searching and wondering why they aren’t getting a proposal or commitment.

GaMEChld ,

While I don’t disagree, there is also something to be said for being a savvy consumer. Stop buying their shit. Do your research. If people spent as much time researching their decisions as lamenting them, they’d be happier with their purchases overall.

I haven’t paid for printer ink in over 10 years. I’m still on my starter cartridge for the laser printer I purchased that far back.

GaMEChld ,

Absolutely. But that involves being politically engaged. We have a government that doesn’t serve the people because people aren’t engaged. People spend time arguing politics but can’t be bothered to vote twice a year. We have abysmal voter turnout rates in every metric.

Our presidential elections are the highest turnout, and even that is laughable, and that’s arguably the LEAST important election. Mid terms are worse turnout than that. Off years worse still. And primaries, which I’d argue are the MOST important election because they let you change the core spirit of the two parties, have the worst turnout of all.

We need to vote.

GaMEChld ,

Everything is ground up. Local elections first, and so on and so forth. By the time you get to federal, the spirit of the entire government will have already shifted more towards the will of the people.

GaMEChld ,

Super Metroid (SNES)
Final Fantasy VI (aka III in US on SNES)
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
Eternal Darkness (GameCube)

Why is everything in consumer / American life so fucking shitty now - and companies literally just say 'oh bc profit margins' and we're now expected to swallow that and sympathize?

like I went to taco bell and they didn’t even have napkins out. they had the other stuff just no napkins, I assume because some fucking ghoul noticed people liked taking them for their cars so now we just don’t get napkins! so they can save $100 per quarter rather than provide the barest minimum quality of life features.

GaMEChld ,

It’s pretty simple. Because we are all so spoiled and entitled that we won’t even consider NOT buying their shit anymore. It’s the same reason the video game market has grown rampant with micro transactions. They keep pushing the boundaries, and we keep giving them our money regardless of what they do. I’m actually curious to see how far they can push this insanity. They already slap a new year on sports titles every year and somehow sell the same game to the same people annually.

PUT YOUR WALLET DOWN.

GaMEChld , (edited )

It’s both. We are both simultaneously capable of free will, yet are also products of the universe that created us. So my answer to your question, in my humble opinion, is yes. Yes, we can victim blame while simultaneously lamenting the corporate landscape.

Let’s make this simpler. This corporate greed is a problem, yes? What actions have you taken to remove this problem?

GaMEChld ,

Didn’t he say that it’s a framework for protocols, not a protocol? Or am I parsing the comment incorrectly?

GaMEChld ,

Ah, that makes sense, thanks!

GaMEChld ,

This is true that it is a likely reason. It is also possible that Gabe Newell runs his company in a very deliberate way because he thinks it’s a net benefit to both his company and gaming in general. From what I have heard, which of course may be a flawed understanding of the man, it seems like he has certain principles. I guess the question is whether or not a person believes intent matters or only the end result.

GaMEChld ,

Evidently he has Asperger’s, so there might be a non-nefarious explanation for his lack of understanding of social things and why he is both simultaneously so successful/creative but also completely socially inept.

He might be actually incapable of understanding others’ perspectives.

GaMEChld ,

How is admitting the possibility of something shitting on them? I am trying to understand.

GaMEChld ,

I agree. But not everyone is wholly rational at all times and some people think they are being rational when in reality they made mistakes in their logical thought processes.

Asperger syndrome: A developmental disorder affecting ability to effectively socialize and communicate. Asperger syndrome is a condition on the autism spectrum, with generally higher functioning.

All I said was there may be a non-nefarious reason for him being the way he is. Are you arguing that he is definitely acting out of malice? If you are, I’d like to understand the reasoning you are using. I’m not trying to fight here, I’m trying to understand.

GaMEChld ,

Because they are acting/thinking irrationally. I’m not entirely sure what the solution to that is except to gently, slowly, and dispassionately ask small binary questions to lead them in explaining their thought processes until they’ve explained far enough that they admit the position they hold is fundamentally rooted in irrational emotion rather than logic.

At that point, they ultimately have a choice to make. They can admit they are being irrational, embrace it, and continue to act irrationally intentionally, or they can change their position.

I think this approach to conversation is infinitely more productive than both sides just yelling past each other and neither side actually speaking the same language.

GaMEChld ,

Do we have probability numbers yet for likelihood of accident? And if so, would that satisfy “extremely likely?” The letter of the law can be fickle.

GaMEChld ,

I don’t know if that’s the reasoning that will hold up in court. Would a judge say a 1 in a billion chance is "extremely likely? That reasoning would apply to all cars in general wouldn’t it? Driving is potentially dangerous no matter what car you drive. People are guaranteed to die in car accidents everyday just by sheer volume and that would be true if Tesla didn’t exist.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not apologizing for them. I’m just dubious of getting a conviction.

GaMEChld ,

Reminds me of that cost of a recall calculation scene from Fight Club.

GaMEChld ,

Are there any famous examples of that being used?

GaMEChld ,

Thanks for the example! I’ll definitely check that out.

GaMEChld ,

Amazing specificity. It’s almost like you won’t give specifics because you don’t know.

GaMEChld ,

Yep, that’s what I said. Not a specific app. So you don’t actually have an app in mind do you? I’m not reading a bunch of reddit threads to back your claim for you. You are simply wrong until you back your claim. I mean you can simply tell me what app you use right? The app that’s free and ad free when using your suggested VPN?

GaMEChld ,

And my claim is that many mobile phone users who used 3rd party apps did not even need a separate ad blocking solution, the apps already blocked them. Thus your claim that “ad blocking has not changed” is wrong.

The ads were blocked from me before, and the app I used is no longer available. That is the definition of changed for my use case. Maybe understand that not everyone uses things the way you use things, you condescending windbag.

GaMEChld ,

It is not completely irrelevant. It is simply indirectly relevant. The reason people are keen to deny Reddit ad revenue is because the API issue pissed a lot of people off.

Ad blocking alone wouldn’t prevent sponsored posts from showing up, and sponsored posts are also ads.

Stop insulting people before you understand things completely. If you cannot understand other people and just think everyone is an idiot, you might want to get yourself screened for autism. And that’s not an insult, it’s a suggestion.

GaMEChld ,

Ah yes, keep insulting me. That truly shows you know what you’re talking about. Yep you’ve convinced me. Good luck with your future interactions with the rest of society. I’m fairly certain that more people think poorly of you than think highly of you.

I’m glad you glossed over sponsored posts and ignored the fine details of my argument, but that’s about what I’d expect from someone with your irrational combative nature. It’s a pity. You could be so much more than that. Best of luck to you, sincerely. I’ll hope reason can dispel this anger in you some day. I clearly don’t know the words at present to allow you to understand my perspective, and I apologize for that deficiency.

GaMEChld ,

We all are. Or do you consider yourself a paragon of humanity despite not knowing the definitions of words? Still no comment on sponsored posts with regards to advertisements. And for what it’s worth, I do use an ad blocker, but all ad blockers don’t function the same way, which is another subtle detail I am unsure you are capable of grasping. But that’s ok, it’s not inherently bad that you are ignorant, it’s simply a state of reality. Your irrationality doesn’t negatively impact my life in any meaningful way.

The important thing is that you are happy.

Also, just so I am completely transparent, the reason I have discussed things with you thus far was not for your benefit. I am using you to demonstrate something to others. So thank you for participating in my publicly viewable experiment. It’s been preserved, even if you delete your comments at this point. Have a nice day!

GaMEChld , (edited )

Thank you for proving my point. Your contributions to science will not be forgotten.

I have follow-up questions. How many people were you successful at convincing of something while calling them names?

I already see that you are an embellishing liar, because you said only I am an idiot, but your post history shows otherwise.

Do you find your conversation skills particularly effective? Do you think there’s anything you can do to improve them?

GaMEChld ,

I already use one… Oh, do you not speak English? Or have some condition that affects reading comprehension? You might need to reread this entire thread more carefully. You haven’t answered a single question that I asked. Are you being intentionally obtuse? Aren’t you the one who accused me of “red-herring” and other nonsense?
