Way too many terrible examples. And yet conservatives decided to focus on Facebook and the like as if they have the right of free speech in a non-governmental context.

Government taking away speech? Fine. But how dare they get a 24-hour ban from Facebook for calling 12 different black people the N-word in 5 minutes?!

This is just anti-Muslim racism.

There is no reason to believe that this woman is not herself a Muslim. Not all Muslims are in favor of head scarves. Iran was a Muslim country while the Shah ruled it too despite head scarves not being required in Tehran at the time. Is she a horrible person? Did she do something unconscionable? Absolutely. But I think calling her a racist for what she did when she could be Muslim herself is going a bit too far.

I’m honestly asking this- are they? I’ve never heard this before. Where did you get that information from?

Edit: I should add that I was fairly active in the atheist community in Los Angeles, which does have a large Iranian/Persian population, and I don’t remember them being prominent members of the community, but it’s been a long time now, so I might just be forgetting.

As the parent of a teenager, I know exactly how moody they can get and how quickly their moods can change from happy to “I will fucking kill a motherfucker.” I wouldn’t give a teenager a gun in a million years.

Calling the values that are supposedly held by Americans “American values” would be accurate even if they were the exact same values held by the people of Belgium. They would also be “Belgian values” if that were the case.

I doubt anyone here would suggest that “American values” were exclusively American.

I’m thousands of dollars in medical debt here in the U.S., but I’m also working on my dual citizenship with the UK, which is looking a lot more positive now… although I also have the possibility of German citizenship, and having an EU passport is pretty appealing, but it’s one or the other and I don’t know German and I am really bad with languages.

Also, the UK passport is pretty much a definite one whereas the German one will require going through Germany’s famous bureaucracy.

Either way, I will want to have a quick exit if I have to come November, and at least now healthcare will not be a factor in the decision.

Kids in my daughter’s middle school were vaping. According to my daughter, a kid’s mom was selling vapes through them to kids in the school. There will always be a market to sell kids contraband and plenty of kids will be happy to pay a premium for it regardless of what their parents say.

But in this case, with gender affirming care, it’s generally a case where the parents also want the child to have that care. It’s being denied despite what the parents, the child, and even their doctor wants.

And yet private industry which enriched corporations was not a feature of communist countries in the 20th century. They didn’t need to enrich individuals and create profit for private businesses.

Those aren’t nationalized resort hotels. Nationalized resort hotels could make lots of money from tourists too.
