EremesZorn ,

I play an Oathbreaker Paladin and I have never had this problem. Usually, I’m the one shoving things to their death if I absolutely must.
So, your positioning needs reconsidering, or you need to use your tank/STR character to force an opening so you can relocate. OR you’re just really unlucky.
From my perspective, if you’re falling to your death that much, it’s more likely you either like standing on cliffs or you’re trying to make excessive use of High Ground attack bonus, which IMO isn’t enough to justify me wasting a move turn repositioning and setting myself up for a potential fall.
By all accounts, this is not a bug, nor is it a problem if you adapt your strategy to prevent such a thing.

EremesZorn ,

If it’s happening that often, that’s absolutely a positioning problem.

EremesZorn ,

I’ve read your other comments. There aren’t microtransactions from what I can see, and you’re just here to be a contrarian. It isn’t working.

EremesZorn ,

Probably Mario on the first NES system. Then I got a Genesis, and I was constantly playing a little-known number called Ranger-X. THAT game was Dark Souls-hard.

EremesZorn ,

I almost picked it up off GMG, but I’m really not a platformer guy.

EremesZorn ,

Sons Of The Forest is surprisingly detailed, but you don’t have much time to take in the sights and the foliage when there’s cannibals chasing you through the woods.

EremesZorn ,

The only thing I have been satisfied with is Baldur’s Gate 3 and I lost interest before I completed Act 3. I’m so immensely fucking pissed off with Armored Core 6 right now that I’m considering uninstalling.
It’s not that it’s bad. It’s actually a really well-made game. But it’s fucking FromSoft, and it’s their “games aren’t shit unless they’re infuriatingly hard” bullshit they’ve always been on.
I don’t know what I was expecting. I beat Elden Ring and the bosses weren’t on this level of nonsense.
And with the news that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 just got pushed back AGAIN, I’m not having a good year in gaming, no.
I need Starfield to be good or I walk away from gaming altogether until next year. It’s getting to be not worth it anymore to me.

EremesZorn ,

Putin fucked it up for the one title I’ve been waiting over a decade for. And it got delayed until next year. Again.

EremesZorn ,

I know its highly unrealistic, but I think the one thing I want above all else from the gaming industry is for studios, publishers etc. to keep quiet about upcoming releases until they have a finished or nearly finished product all set. That way the release date can, yknow, be the actual release date.

EremesZorn ,

I heard they went a different direction, and it plays like Devil May Cry.
I’m personally not picking up another FF until they go back go the classic format of the PSX days. Actual turn-based battles. I already got burned by FFXV and the FF7 remake.
At least Falcom is still making good old fashioned JRPGs with The Legend of Heroes…

EremesZorn ,

Most of the game isn’t too bad. The bosses I cannot handle.

EremesZorn ,

I was, until I hit the bosses in the Chapter 1 capstone mission.
Fuck.

EremesZorn ,

That’s forbidden knowledge among the mechanics in my union local, lol. One of the shop mechanics at my training center was teaching some of my peers how to pick locks when we had completed our training and were just killing time helping the shop guys out. Had some downtime and he brought out a couple sets and some locks.
Apparently it’s sort of an unspoken tool of the mechanic trade when you work around machinery like that. Never know what you’ll have to get access to and you never know if anyone will have the right key. You’d think the ignition key would suffice to open, say, an access panel or storage cabinet, but some of these machines use a different key entirely for such a thing.

EremesZorn ,

That’s almost anarcho-syndicalism, which I am a proponent of some of the ideas of, but it leaves capital and government generally intact. That’s probably the easiest way we could transition away from capitalism as we know it and not collapse the system entirely. It sounds almost feasible.

EremesZorn ,

Yeah I’m not sure why or how this would be a topic of conversation when, yknow, dating women.

EremesZorn ,

That depends entirely on what instances we are talking about. Lemmy.grad and Hexbear users have no business existing anywhere but their own shitty tankie bubble.

EremesZorn ,

Oh. Now this is gonna be some hot garbage.
Shame, too. NovaLogic had some great milsim IPs back in the day. This was probably their best known. I always used to play Comanche 3, Delta Force 2 and Delta Force: Land Warrior as a kid.

EremesZorn ,

So just make sure you have N95s handy. There’s no reason to panic, but just be prepared if a new strain takes off over the flu season.
I don’t understand why the comments are so contentious.

EremesZorn ,

Home Depot carries NIOSH-certified N95s. Looks like they’re in stock online.

EremesZorn , (edited )

And where do you get N95s that filter outgoing air effectively? Besides, even these N95s are leagues better than the Chinese mass-produced KN95 junk you see on something like Amazon.
Edit: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/…/free-masks.html
Here the CDC lists brands and models of masks that are effective in protecting yourself and others. As you say, the 8511 just happens to be one with an exhalation valve. I do remember the CDC explicitly saying exhalation valves were a no-go during the pandemic, so I don’t think anyone looking for N95s for COVID protection would buy masks with valves anyway. There are other options available from hardware stores.

EremesZorn ,

I find myself still standing a moderate distance away from people while in line at stores etc.

EremesZorn ,

That’s not how any of the COVID vaccines were reported to work. No such thing as total immunity.
The virus is deadly depending on what conditions are met (underlying risk factors, etc.). Not all of those conditions are obvious or well-studied, so it always seemed to me like a lottery who gets killed by the virus.
Furthermore, I don’t believe the article is fearmongering. As I said in a separate comment, it’s more like “hey, there might be a bit of an outbreak in some places this flu season, so keep some N95s on hand just in case numbers go up.” I HIGHLY doubt we would see another shutdown.

EremesZorn ,

Then they’re not properly educated, they have no better option, or in the case of the news anchor, they’re a parasite feeding on fear.

EremesZorn ,

How dramatic. I don’t think people are generally still scared of this. It’s been part of our lives for a few years now.
Normal people see this and go “Hmm, I’ll keep some N95s around in case there’s a notable uptick in people gettin’ sick this flu season.” Meanwhile, some people, such as yourself, seem to have a negative knee-jerk reaction to anything in the news related to COVID, and then proceed to get shit upon by the community when you bitch about it; their knee-jerk reaction is to immediately assume you’re a right-winger and call you out on it (they’ve done it to a couple other people in here). While I don’t think that’s a fair assumption off the cuff, I can see how they’d jump to that.

EremesZorn ,

You’re looking at PPE one-dimensionally. The most effective use of PPE is combined with other types of PPE, as well as additional precautions and safe habits. Masks ALONE aren’t saving shit. A vaccine ALONE isn’t making you infallible.
This is basic OSHA shit that everyone should at least realize where it applies to work. It carries over into your everyday. I’ve got a HAZWOPER certification I have to keep up every year, so it’s something ingrained at this point.

EremesZorn ,

I don’t wear one in my day-to-day, but I’m certainly not going to begrudge somebody for wearing one, and you can be sure I’m gonna have em around for flu season, COVID or no.
The problem is masks got politicized by assholes that want to be contrarian for the sake of preserving their paradigm, their worldview.
These are people so mentally weak and reliant on the lifestyle they’ve grown accustomed to that when something like a plague comes around, it shifts their paradigm so fuckin’ hard that they have to tell themselves the science is wrong and everybody is going to be fine. I suppose the other part of it is treating your national politics like a fuckin’ football game, but that doesn’t even warrant discussing because it’s so goddamn obvious and pervasive.
Now imagine, as a hypothetical scenario, the government tells us aliens are real one day, and they’re here. Watch these people really lose it. Wouldn’t know whether to shit or go blind.
Edit: As for the people that are just genuinely tired of hearing about it, be it on here, Reddit, or else where… Pull the fucking plug and let everything go for a bit. Decompress. You don’t have to be online and connected to everything every minute of your boredom or free time.
There’s no lockdown anymore. Go touch grass.

EremesZorn ,

When I buy a Bethesda game, I know what I’m getting into. People bitch, but like you said, it’s the familiarity I’m going for.
And you know the modding scene is going to be good in a year or so.

EremesZorn ,

Nah, too many tankies and terminally-online armchair political theorists on this instance. It’s actually fucking disgusting.

EremesZorn ,

I think you misunderstood. I’m fully agreeing with you.

EremesZorn ,

Good lookin’ out. Somebody remove this garbage.

EremesZorn ,

Somebody else pointed out MintPress is tankie bullshit.
These scum are everywhere on lemmy.ml, I swear.

EremesZorn ,

The guy posts anti-LGBT memes everywhere. He’s one of these losers that likes to use “cuck” in his comments. I’d ban on that alone. Hell, I’d ban anyone for being a Trump supporter or a tankie. Then again, that’s why I’m not a mod, never was, and shouldn’t be.

EremesZorn ,

Knew it would be a matter of time before the fuck_cars crowd popped in. Not everywhere is a city, and I work potentially all over the state. I also have equipment and gear I have to bring to the job. I actually need a vehicle.

EremesZorn ,

I’m not the guy you’re replying to, but I lived in a city for four years. I found it miserable, and it’s not for everyone. In fact I’d argue that you seemingly advocating for us to live in one big sprawl is the dystopian poor take here.

EremesZorn ,

That’s entirely not feasible for anyone living a typical life with errands to run and places to go, and you know it.

EremesZorn ,

Because the amenities you require are geographically close enough to not necessitate a car. I don’t know what the population density is where you live, but if it’s a city, there’s obviously going to be public transit to make that happen at least somewhat efficiently.
And yeah, the cities that don’t have effective public transportation, or just have unattractive public transportation (i.e. “its too crowded,” “I don’t want to be around this many people,” etc.) are the places where you’ll find more traffic on the road. In a rural setting though, it comes down to a low population density and much broader geographical ranges. I’d imagine that makes public transportation really inefficient, and in the eyes of local government, fiscally untenable.

EremesZorn ,

Meanwhile you flood lemmy instances with anti-LGBT memes. Gtfo clown 😂

New Anti-Consumer MacBook Pros - Teardown And Repair Assessment - Apple Silicon M1/M2 (youtu.be)

No surprises here. Just like the lockdown on iPhone screen and part replacements, Macbooks suffer from the same Apple’s anti-repair and anti-consumer bullshit. Battery glued, ssd soldered in and can’t even swap parts with other official parts. 6000$ laptop and you don’t even own it.

EremesZorn ,

I didn’t say it, but I thought it.

EremesZorn ,

Because they’ve somehow built a cult around their overpriced and overhyped products.
My laptop can crush anything their anti-consumer company can push out. People drool over MacBooks and they’re fucking laughable.

EremesZorn , (edited )

No, you’re right, it’s all of them. Ubisoft is one of the worst perpetrators of this shit actually. Far Cry games having an online shop is so unnecessary.
Edit: In fact, they’re so bad they attempted to implement NFTs in Ghost Recon. Like… what?
That didn’t last though.

EremesZorn ,

So far, every article I’ve seen about Baldur’s Gate 3’s effect on the gaming industry has been horse shit. Other studios and publishers are not “panicking,” they’re not going to rethink microtransactions, and they’re not going to be daunted by this release; some devs have said as much already along the lines of “Yeah don’t expect this breadth and scope from us going forward, because it doesn’t work for our games.”
This game is not the industry-spanning “gotcha” these writers have been trying to make it out to be. AAA devs or publishers are going to continue their nonsense because people will continue to buy their shit anyway, and they know it.
All that said, BG3 is the best game I’ve played in a number of years and hands-down the best cRPG I’ve ever played. It smokes Divinity, Icewind Dale, the previous BG games, NWN, etc. So if any studios do happen to have a positive takeaway from this, maybe we’ll see at least some of that polish in games down the line.

EremesZorn ,

I think, with 700k concurrent players, we need to recognize cRPGs may not be as niche as we previously thought. However, your point stands: this isn’t going to hurt anyone’s revenue from MTX.

EremesZorn ,

Nah, there’s enough garbage on Steam as it is, we don’t need any more. Fuck Blizz.

EremesZorn ,

Some of it does. Maybe even a lot of it. Andor is a pretty good miniseries though, I like that it’s more mature and has a bleaker undertone like Rogue One.

EremesZorn ,

The beauty of Bethesda’s flagship titles (namely Fallout and TES) is even if they end up as buggy messes upon release, or have empty maps, the modding community corrects those flaws relatively quickly.
It’s one of the reasons that I, a long-time veteran of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., am not worried if GSC Game World fucks up S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Today, the best part of the first titles is the mods that fix, improve, and add content to the games. It’ll be the same with this one, and I’m excited to see what people do with A-Life 2.0.

"A ticking time bomb that can explode at any time", as EVs surge, so does nickel mining’s death toll (restofworld.org)

Chinese demand for nickel, an important ingredient in EV batteries, has triggered a mining boom in the remote regions of Indonesia. The country has signed over a dozen deals worth more than $15 billion with suppliers for EV giants like Tesla and Hyundai Motor, but deaths and injuries from industrial accidents have been racking...

EremesZorn ,

Because people are so disconnected from the actual logistics of getting shit done. They live in fantasy where they believe turning an entire state into a vegan hippie commune is totally viable. That’s why communities like fuck_cars exist and are filled with self-righteous idealists that, yes, probably live in cities and don’t understand how shit works in the world outside of public transportation and bicycles.
