Kind of like that, I got into them as they were thriving, since it was on beta/release, but they died very quickly afterwards and it is a shame because nothing captures that feel for me, I like short burst competitive games like that, but I guess people generally aren’t into stuff like that.

A tab of NTG is only 0.5mg, a drop of pure NTG (so around the size of the tab) would be in the ballpark of 125 mg, so the tablet contains very little NTG. Id wager a tiny pop if any.

The reason you experience the chills when you spike a fever is the brain sets the desired temperature higher and as a result you perceive cold at your current body temperature. And also why you feel like you are in a sauna when your fever breaks, because the inverse is true.

Fair enough, very valid points, especially since this is unlikely to be (completely) a rebranded generic aliexpress phone. And to be fair some digital audio players cost an insane buck (see FiiO M series), so if this is kind of a middle ground, the price could be steep.

And to be fair they did put out an astronomically proced keyboard with a dac inside that had PCB drift issues.

Moondrop has a lot of sellers. I bought one of their entry IEMs with free shipping, came pretty fast despite being a very hot new release. That said i can’t tell you from which retailer anymore (maybe even moondrop themselves?)(actually, i dont think you can buy from them, think i bought from shenzhenaudio), they are collecting dust somewhere (I just can’t get on board with the form factor, over-ear/on-ear all day, everyday).

People need variety in their diet, but they almost certainly do not need things like bananas, you can, in most places around the world, get nutritionally complete diets from locally grown sources, which will often be of higher quality, tastier and usually cheaper. I certainly can’t think of anything that I need, that couldn’t be bought at a farmers market. Now I can imagine some dietary restrictions and choices will have those needs, but restrictions can’t be helped and choices are probably more environmentally conscious anyway (vegetarians, vegans).

Local does not have to be in your rural community. Something that is trucked to your local store a hundred(s) miles is certainly better than something that was trucked to a port, shipped halfway across the globe, and trucked again.

“Doing something that Joe isn’t doing is not worth it” is a bad mindset, especially since Joe might not be doing it for the same reason. You can’t expect everyone to start doing it the same day. The more people buy local, the cheaper it becomes to buy locally and less profitable to import.

Regulations would be great, but Id prefer living in a society that can self regulate.

Its the previous thing of it, potentially, being true somewhere and then also just it sounds like it could be true. TikTok is full of stuff like this, that sounds true enough and is presented from somewhat of an authority angle, with confidence. Too often I get someone to send me a tiktok of some medical fact like: “is this true?”. And 9/10 it is not.

Its okay and does the job, but learning to sharpen on a stone can be done in a spare afternoon with a youtube video and a 5 dollar diamond stone from ali. Your knives will thank you.

The 2 big problems with pull sharpeners is that they sharpen parallel to the blade, making the knife edge more brittle and they deepen defects in the blade, so if there are even tiny dents in the edge, the pull sharpeners will make them larger over time.

Physics and more to the point, QM, appears probabilistic but wether or not it is deterministic is still up for debate. Until such a time that we develop a full understanding of QM we can not say for sure. Personally I am inclined to think we will find deterministic explanations in QM, it feels like nonsense to say that things could have happened differently. Things happen the way they happen and if you would rewind time before an event, it should resolve the same way.

Seth Anil has interesting lectures on consciousness, specifically on the predictive processing theory. Under this view the brain essentially simulates reality as a sort of prediction, this simulated model is what we, subjectively, then perceive as consciousness.

“Every good regulator of a system must be a model of that system“. In other words consciousness might exist because to regulate our bodies and execute different actions we must have an internal model of ourselves as well as ourselves in the world.

As for determinism - the idea of libertarian free will is not really seriously entertained by philosophy these days. The main question is if there is any inkling of free will to cling to (compatibilism), but, generally, it is more likely than not that our consciousness is deterministic.

Its not that odd if you think about it. Everything else in this universe is deterministic. Well, quantum mechanics, as we observe it, is probabilistic, but still governed by rules and calculable, thus predictable (I also believe it is, in some sense, deterministic). For there to be free will, we need some form of “special sauce”, yet to be uncovered, that would grant us the freedom and agency to act outside of these laws.

Its worth mentioning that certain mainstream interpretations are also concretely deterministic. For example many worlds is actually a deterministic interpretation, the multiverse is deterministic, your particular branch simply appears probabilistic. Much more deterministic is Bohmian mechanics. Copenhagen interpretation, however, maintains randomness.

Etiquette is one of the things that really annoys-to-infuriates me. Especially if someone gets offended over me not following it. I just can’t be bothered thinking about arbitrary rules without any good merit behind them.

Now I am not talking common sense things where a behaviour might normally be considered offensive, but things like “ a man is supposed to verbally greet a woman first, while a handshake should be initiated by the woman if she wishes”.

Ive actually had this exact exchange with a superior (by standing, I wasnt actually working with/under them at the time):

Them, visibly and audibly annoyed: So I guess you dont greet people?

I just said good morning and said I don’t really keep track of who I have already met that day. But like come on, where is the disrespect if not projected from your own head?

I also hate the custom of wishing someone a good meal / good appetite. Like if it is 1x when everyone sits down, whatever, ill begrudgingly follow, but I cant be bothered to do it at work every 2 mins when someone new walks into the kitchen.

Our childrens hospital (besides the ICU that uses a phillips solution on windows, which integrates with the monitoring and anesthesia equipment) runs linux, however they do this in a virtual environment on windows, the reasoning I am not sure about, potentially to sandbox the electronic system they are using.
  2. Its almost exclusively to do with the software they need, it often wont run on linux or will have limited support.

I had that Harrio as my first grinder, it was alright but the adjustment of grind size was annoying and a single espresso shot took like 10 mins to hand-crank. Within a week I ordered a Eureka Mignon Chrono. Best decision.

Ive since retired my budget espresso machine because having no time to dedicate to upkeep ment it was constantly getting nasty and was just too much hassle, now I have found my happy medium with a chemex.

Heavy x to doubt, passable wireless start at 100ish and 20-30 bucks of wired smash them out of the water.

If you seriously think your 20 buck wireless are as good as a decent pair of wired, I have to assume you have never had a set of decent wired headphones. Either that or you have found a very interesting unicorn.

Nah mate, while there’s plenty of bullshit in the audiophile community, do not underestimate the difference headphones make.

Theres too much the average cheapo headphones get wrong, theres instruments you would never have noticed in songs because the headphones just lacked that resolution. The spatiality of the audio too, its not just on your ears or in your skull. The difference after you try decent headphones is night and day. You quickly run into exponentially diminishing returns, but the first decent headphones you try are a pretty big leap.

Its already a feat to make a good wired at that price point, but theres at least good contenders in this price bracket, you could easily get your forever headphones in this category for wired. Especially if you are not an audiophile

Theres no way you squeeze enough value out of 20 bucks to make a good wireless can. You need good drivers, good build for the headphones (well engineered driver housing and even the earpads and screens above the driver matter a lot), you need to tune them right, you need to have a passable BT receiver, a passable DAC, a passable AMP. On top of it you need to have a battery and probably some circuit to control it all.

For wired cans at least you don’t need to ram all the electronics in, you only have the first three hurdles and some wired cans in this pricerange are shockingly good. While for wireless you start running out of your 20 bucks just assembling the electronics.

A lot of other things in the audiophile world? Yea, I agree, a lot of it is not going to register to most people, especially now that sound output on most devices is good enough where you don’t really need a dedicated audio stack, if your headphones can be driven by the output.

But if you pit me in a pepsi challange vs 20 buck wireless phones even vs my daily drivers (or something else, decent, from the sub 35 buck bracket), let alone my at-home cans (or, basically, anything from the 200 buck wired bucket), ill take that bet any day of the week and even for random people I bet they could easily tell the difference if you just let them blind A/B test on just a few songs even if like short samples.
