This is cool and sounds believable. Do you have other insights?

Cosmicomical ,

This theory is a self-fulfilling prophecy, it doesn’t need to be that way, unless you convince enough people that it has to be that way.

English language doesn’t have an alphabet - change my mind (especially british, but american only made one step in the right direction and then stopped)

Cosmicomical ,

Exactly! That’s the most appropriate description!

Cosmicomical ,

But it’s really not a fun fact

Cosmicomical ,

I’m not sure it applies when the guy is the sole source of all his problems

Cosmicomical ,

I think I know what you mean but if it’s what I think you are doing a terrible job at explaining it. Theories in the scientific jargon are not the same as theories in the common parlance. What the commoner calls a “theory” is what we call a conjecture or an hypothesis. A theory in science is a summarization of experimental results, so if this is your take, I get your point.

Where did all the energy in the universe come from? This is not physics, it’s methaphysics. We are talking about things that are outside our knowledge and science is descriptive, not prescriptive. Extrapolations must be tested. This is not much different from saying that the most remote galaxies receding at speeds faster than light is impossible, because nothing can travel faster than light. Maybe it’s just matter that can’t break that rule, while space itself can expand at whatever speed, or maybe it’s just an error somewhere in our assumptions. We still don’t know. But we DO think they are receding faster than light.

Cosmicomical ,

I’m sorry. I should have said muggles.

Cosmicomical ,

I’m so sorry to read this. It must be ok to do stuff for yourself, anybody that tells you no is the one being toxic. As they say in fight club, you are not defined by your job. Especially in this time of AI and extreme automation, we must normalise that not having a job, or not living for your job, doesn’t mean you are worthless. This is valid for women as well, btw.

Cosmicomical ,

Ok together with the covid pandemic this is clearly proof that the chtorr invasion is actually happening

Cosmicomical ,

Are you me? I confirm 100%, on both sides

Cosmicomical ,

ok, this comment hurts more than the chart lol

Cosmicomical ,

I thought it was the punk band No Effects

Ah yes they forgot the super fast bird that hunts for cyborgs in a dystopian future, blade runner

Wtf is this fear mongering? I’m totally for luddism but this is something else. Not the first time a machine kills a person, and will not be the last. Put panic stop buttons on any machine that can potentially harm a human, and nowadays you can add a range of sensors that can help identify a living thing from a box of vegetables. This is entirely the fault of designers.

Btw i refuse to read the article if the post keeps this title and picture.

Cosmicomical ,

I think it should

Cosmicomical ,

No, i get what you both mean, i guess what i mean is that we shouldn’t internalize the defeat, we should keep being angry at companies for doing this shit

Cosmicomical ,

Oh, they rhyme anyway

Cosmicomical ,

I love the CLI as it’s more powerful and efficient, but to be honest i can’t rememeber a time when i actually needed it for something basic. Browsing (including mail and movies), editing documents, printing, and most changes in configuration can be done through the graphical interface.

Cosmicomical ,

There is a simpler way: all the "else if"s can be replaced with simple "if"s

Cosmicomical ,

Ok just to clarify this was a joke. It was just a pedantic improvement on a deranged solution. The only sensible way to do this is with % 2 or with bitwise operations imo.

Cosmicomical ,

This sounds like a very toxic environment, i’m sure it happens but i’ve never withnessed anything like this

Cosmicomical ,

I’ve interviewed dozens of candidates to hire entire new teams and the percentage of women showing up was very very low. I ended up with an extremely diverse team of mostly men. If i interview 50 candidates and only 3 of them are women, what’s the likelihood they are going to be better than all the others? I complained about this and nothing changed. And my opinion has never been that they are less competent, but it certainly looks like they are less interested in the topic, maybe becase it’s male-dominated. The women I managed to hire nevertheless are absolutely good devs and if anything they have a better work ethic on average.

Ok, can you remind me why people should work from the office? At this point a company requesting I work from the office is just a huge red flag

Cosmicomical ,

Did they just patent procedural animation?
