It’ll harass you to activate it indefinitely but Microsoft has a policy that they’d rather have people steal their operating system than pay for someone else’s, so ultimately that’s it. It’ll just annoy you.

Chainweasel ,

At the moment it has a pretty low (~0) person to person infection rate.
But, it does have a 56% mortality rate (Covid was between 3%-5%) so I don’t think we should be fucking around with our response to it.
Viruses can mutate and that R value (person to person transmission rate) can shoot up after a mutation.
I would much rather us have an “overblown” response than an inadequate response like we did with Covid. .

Trump isn’t fit for a Waffle House, let alone the White House.

Chainweasel ,

She’s playing the long game, no matter what she’ll get out of the prenup she’ll get more as a widow.
Trump’s 77, eats like shit, never exercises, and he has an Adderall addiction. She won’t have to wait too long and the payoff will be better.

Chainweasel ,

It’s a buzz word.
ChatGPT came out and all the other tech companies like Google freaked the fuck out because they weren’t first to the market.
In response they started adding AI to Google search.
Well, Microsoft can’t let that stand either so now they’re both in a mad dash to put it in fucking everything before the other guy does.

I live next to a tiny local airport that sees maybe 4 Cessna 172s a day.
But, the army flies about 6 of these in every week and does touch-and-goes with them at the airport and sometimes they stop for Jet-A.
Why does a tiny airport have Jet-A?
For the Chinooks.
But I love those bastards, they shake the whole house when they fly over and I always stop to look, even after more than a decade.

Chainweasel ,

Yeah, I’m directly under the pattern for my airfield so I try not to think too much about it too much.

Chainweasel ,

Funny how they’re calling for riots instead of going to the streets and rioting.
I wonder if they remember what happened to them the last time they tried that shit 🤔.

Chainweasel ,

Only 39 people in the US have been tested for H5N1 over the course of the 2024 outbreak.

I know that they’re only testing people who show symptoms and that it would be a waste of resources to test thousands of dairy workers that almost certainly don’t carry the virus, and the R value at the moment is basically nil so it’s not like they’re contagious, but my Covid PTSD is screaming in the back of my mind that there’s no such thing as overkill and if we don’t go nuclear on it, we’re gonna be mega fucked.

Chainweasel ,

To them, Misinformation = Money.
By disbanding safety and ethics councils and committees they are allowing for greater volumes of misinformation to flow through their services.
Misinformation tends to increase closer to elections.

Chainweasel ,

They reside in the X chromosome and sometimes one of those genes has mutated. If you only have the mutated version you may be unable to see some colors.

Also, with 2 x chromosomes it’s possible to get an extra set of cone cells and see more colors.

As climate change continues to accelerate, expect more of these stories and expect them to soon start including violence.

Chainweasel ,

And every capitalist country slowly removes these benefits until major uprisings.

We figured out a long time ago that there’s only two things people need in order to keep them happy:
Bread and Circuses.
As long as people have food on their table and a source of entertainment you can take everything else away and they’ll be content enough to not revolt.
But it’s important to not take everything else away at once either, that’s why they chisel away at them until only those two are left.

Haiti transition council taps former PM Conille to again lead country (www.reuters.com)

PORT-AU-PRINCE, May 28 (Reuters) - Haiti’s transition council on Tuesday tapped former Prime Minister Garry Conille, who briefly led the country over a decade ago, to return to the role as the Caribbean nation works to restore stability and take back control from violent gangs....

Wasn’t that one of the assets that was supposed to be locked by the civil fraud trial? The one he got the bond reduced on and filed an appeal, then we never heard about it again?

New Israeli attack today (Tuesday) on Rafah evacuation zone (www.reuters.com)

CAIRO, May 28 (Reuters) - Israeli tanks shelled a tent camp in an evacuation area west of Rafah and killed at least 21 people on Tuesday, Gaza health authorities said, while advancing to the heart of the southern Gaza city for the first time after a night of heavy bombardment. Two days after an Israeli airstrike on another camp...

Brightly colored plastics may break down into microplastics faster but they’re also drastically more visible, meaning they may get spotted and picked up before other colors.

Chainweasel ,

They’re definitely isn’t enough of it being picked up, but I would be curious to see the ratio of brightly colored plastic to not brightly colored plastic in what has been picked up.
If more brightly colored plastic is being picked up then we could increase the amount of plastic that is being picked up by switching to annoying colors.
Every little bit helps, even if it’s just 1% more.

Chainweasel ,

I’m kind of surprised they didn’t deny the anomaly entirely and claim that the satellite successfully achieved orbit, in fact I’m certain I remember them doing exactly that at least once in the past.

Chainweasel ,

It would be stupid not to.
Not only is there absolutely no guarantee the United States will be there to help them, but if a certain candidate wins, it’s a guarantee we won’t be helping them.
But beyond that it’s an incredibly stupid idea to outsource your national defense, even to an ally.

Chainweasel ,

We is the United States in this context. Not you or I, but the nation I’m part of and pay taxes to. And the majority of those taxes go to the military industrial complex.
So even though I don’t make any of the decisions and I personally don’t agree with many of them, I still have to help pay for it whether I like it or not.
So, I’m reluctantly part of the “we”.

Chainweasel ,

Holy shit that’s a blast from the past!

Chainweasel ,

That explains why I didn’t get it at first, I thought she was holding the hungry hungry caterpillar.

Chainweasel ,

Why the hell are we concerned with Putin’s feelings on the subject?
I’m sure it also enrages him that we’re helping Ukraine at all, so what’s the point?
In fact, we should be going out of our way to purposefully piss him off.
He’s 71 and possibly has cancer, inducing a coronary might be the quickest way to get this war over with.

Chainweasel ,

If it’s illegal, and they produce the AI CSAM anyway, they’ve broken the law and are by definition not Innocent.

Chainweasel ,

Oh for sure, but I do wonder long they’ll drag out the “missing” narrative.
Eventually they’ll have to acknowledge he’s dead so they can appoint his successor.
They’re probably still arguing over whether they’re going to blame Israel or The US.

Chainweasel ,

The title makes it sound like the storm drain is some sort of organ harvesting machine and he was purposefully placed in there so his organs could be donated.

Chainweasel ,

No, I would support it being locked to the national retirement age though, which would be 67 at the moment.

Chainweasel ,

I’ll wish badly on them for you then.
Good riddance!

Chainweasel ,

Yeah, we’ll see how well that works when billions of people are displaced by climate change, living in poverty with little to no access to healthcare or medicine.
I’m sure that’ll bump the average waaaay up.

About a year ago we had a mild tornado in my area that tore through the woodlands and Marsh for about 15 miles but never made it into a populated area.
Our electricity was out for almost 3 weeks, and 11 months later they’re still trying to clear brush around the lines that had grown up over the years.

It sounds like it was triggered by a faulty charge in the ejection seat itself, so it wouldn’t have triggered the canopy to eject with it.
It’s a horrible way to go but it was fucking quick though.

Do you leave a tip for housekeeping if you're only staying one night in a hotel?

Is it a ‘thank you for prepping my room’ or ‘please clean my room today’? If you tip post cleaning, it’s likely going to someone else the next day. Many hotels now only do housekeeping on demand. How do employees feel about this - do they miss the tips or are they happy for a less stressful workday?...

The 15% of a meal thing never made sense to me either. Does it take any more work to carry a $60 steak to a table than it does a $15 steak?
It’s not My job to pay some company’s employees a living wage when I don’t even make a living wage myself.

I think Gamers Nexus also did a video on it recently.

Edit: I’m an idiot and I just recently started watching GN so I had no idea it was the same channel 🤷‍♂️

Chainweasel ,

Covid has a mortality rate of about 3% while H5N1 has a mortality rate of about 56%.
If it starts spreading from person to person and it has an r value similar to Covid, we’re fucked.
