Yep, it’s close to 4% of the total. Not really “almost as much”.

Cavemanfreak ,

It’s way less than that. 2.39x10^20 is around 4% of 5.8x10^21. Not even close to “almost as much”. Looks like the authors don’t know their powers of 10. So if we dedicate 5% of the total energy for one year it could theoretically be done.

Cavemanfreak ,

I don’t know much about the technology, so I can’t comment on that. But I don’t really see politicians pushing for this, at least not succesfully. There are too many rightwing obstructionists in most Western governments right now…

Cavemanfreak ,

Nah, what’s worse is that it’s only 15(!) hours per month!

Cavemanfreak ,

Sure, but it also only counts book time. If you listen 2x it’s only 7.5 hours.

Instagram's unskippable ads test causes outrage among users (www.techspot.com)

Instagram has long been accused of stealing features from platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, and Twitter/X. It appears that the company has looked to YouTube for its latest idea: unskippable ads that you have to watch for a period of time before being able to scroll further....

Cavemanfreak ,

Have you tried just looking at “Following”? That shows everything in chronological order, without ads. Lets me quickly see what’s new, and then close the app. I don’t discover many new recipes anymore, but that’s a price I’m willing to pay.

Cavemanfreak ,

Not that I know of… Most of the time I forget to change, but since the second post I see is an ad 90% of the time I usually realize my mistake very quickly.

Cavemanfreak ,

Regular ReVance works just fine. Installed it to my wife’s phone just earlier today.

Cavemanfreak ,

At least it gave credit to a reddit user when it suggested to a suicidal person that they could jump from the Golden Gate Bridge!

Cavemanfreak ,

Is 116 500 km, so we’re missing the mark with a little more than 43 000 km.

Cavemanfreak ,

True! But that was also what you used 😜 I looked up the average distance though, which seems to be 385 000 km. Which means we would fit everyone with about 2 000 km to spare 😃

Cavemanfreak ,

It’s quite unreliable though. Ours works probably ~90-95% of the time. The other 5-10% it missed the sign or reads the sign on a neighbouring road. That doesn’t sound too bad, but if it’s going to beep at you (for a mistake it made itself nonetheless) it would quickly get really annoying.

Cavemanfreak ,

Aah, the ol’ reddit switche… Wait, never mind…

Cavemanfreak ,

The thing with tik tok isn’t only with the data China can gather from US residents. It’s also how they can use that information to influence the populace and send them propaganda, for example influencing the election results.

Cavemanfreak ,

The section Methods on the Cambridge Analytica wiki page explains it pretty well. While it’s not proven to be able to directly influence voting, it’s effective at swaying people’s opinions and emotions about subjects.

Cavemanfreak ,

Yep. But I guess it was already banned on government phones right? (not from the US, so I’m not all that up to date…)

Cavemanfreak ,

I was planning to, but ultimately didn’t. I have handed out personal blocks to obvious trolls and a brunch of hexbear users that spammed gifs in every single thread though.

Cavemanfreak ,

Nope. I have filtered both grad and hexbear out of my feed though, I don’t need their shit there. And don’t forget that many instances already are defederated with them, so there’s also fewer of them through that!

Cavemanfreak ,

.ml is full of Marxist/Leninists, and while they are not as full on crazy tankies as most users from hexbear, they generally tend to skew that way. Not everyone, but there’s a theme.

Cavemanfreak ,

It was indeed what I thought of. But from what mr kangaroo fucker says the point still stand.

Cavemanfreak ,

Since Sony is publishing this everything you buy for PS is supporting that behaviour.

Cavemanfreak ,

For those wondering, ReVanced launcher short after that and is even better than Vanced.

Cavemanfreak ,

Jesus. That sounds eerily like my experience. Heard scracthes in the attic and thought it was mice. Woke up one morning with a dead wasp in the bed and having been stung. Thought nothing of it. Woke up a few days later with two dead wasps in the bed and having been stung. Huh, that’s weird. Then when I woke up one morning I saw a wasp crawl between the planks in the ceiling. Called exterminators and they sprayed the attic. The wasps had built their nest in the isolation and had chewed through it down to the planks… The next week I had hundreds of dead (and a few alive) bees in the room every day and I had to sleep on the sofa…

Cavemanfreak ,

I’m aware. I was just relaying my experience which was pretty similar.

Cavemanfreak ,

Ah, sorry for the confusion then :)

Cavemanfreak ,

but it doesn’t mean we ignore guns.

Uuuh, you sure about that? It seems like that shit keeps happening and nothing at all is being done about it.

Cavemanfreak ,

Hey, don’t mix orcas in with sharks! They don’t attack people. (their boats, close to the mediterranean, have not been as lucly lately though…)

Cavemanfreak ,

I spent 80 hours with it in the beginning of the year and it’s really a blast!

Cavemanfreak ,

I finished Dave the Diver this weekend, great little game!

Now I’ve jumped board the No Man’s Sky train again, for the first time in six (!) years. And so far it’s been really fun and chill!

Cavemanfreak ,

Not only amazing, but also a freaking machine when it comes to churning out books.

Cavemanfreak ,

Yeah. Kinda. Sometimes if you press slightly in the wrong place you get the cursor instead, which can easily lead to misclicks. But it’s definitely playable! A mobile port would be really dope though

Cavemanfreak ,

This might sound stupid, but have you tried using after:2024-01-01? That works as well.

Cavemanfreak ,

Ah, that reminds me about this Day9 classic about Graham’s Number.

Cavemanfreak ,

You are not wrong, but remember that they only employ like 40-50 people. Even if the playerbase goes down to 10% of what it is that’s still not a lot of people.

Cavemanfreak ,

Dude, did you even read the (very short, obviously biased and sometimes factually incorrect) article you linked? Breivik is in Norway, not in Finland.

Cavemanfreak ,

Aah, what a great timing. Just watched Weird: the Al Yankovic Story yesterday!

Cavemanfreak ,

Already seen it a couple of times! Such a great movie 😁

Imran Khan allies win shock victory in Pakistan election despite crackdown (www.theguardian.com)

Politicians allied with the former prime minister Imran Khan’s party have defied a military-led crackdown and alleged widespread rigging to win the most seats in Pakistan’s election, but opponent Nawaz Sharif claimed victory and said he would form a coalition government....

Cavemanfreak ,

Will they though? It’s a dangerous precedent to set and would let Biden make use of the same immunity (not that he’s likely to use the opportunity…)

Cavemanfreak ,

I’ve heard that roguelites have progression between runs, which makes successive runs easier, while roguelikes usually don’t?

S. Korea experiences the worst case of overdue wages (www.donga.com)

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the amount of overdue wages in the U.S. last year was 156.15 million dollars, and the number of victims was 135,067 last year. Meanwhile, South Korea would reach 1.7 trillion won in amount and over 300,000 victims last year. The country’s economic size based on GDP is 1/15 of the...

Cavemanfreak ,

1.7 trillion won seems to be about 1.3 billion dollars

If you do like Wheel of Time it’s always worth giving Brandon himself a shot as well. He’s busy writing his own universe called Cosmere. It’s got a few different series based on different planets and magic systems that can mostly be read as standalones, but they are also connected in… let’s just say ‘certain ways’ for now. Mistborn is a popular starting point. Personally I think ‘Emperor’s Soul’ is better if you want to try out his writing style, since it’s only about 100 pages or so.

Cavemanfreak ,

Lemmy, the singer of Motörhead that died 2015?

Cavemanfreak ,

Yes and yes! At least for me. I’ve only got a 1060 6GB, but it managed 30-40 fps on medium in most places, which felt fine to me. I’ve heard that it’s the higher end cards that have been having problems though, so can’t comment on how that is now.
