AstridWipenaugh , to world in ‘If you don’t leave, we’ll kill you’: Hundreds flee Israeli settler violence

How is it not?

ter·ror·ism

noun

the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.

They’re using the threat of violence, and sometimes using violence, to push their agenda of Israeli expansion into Palestinian territory.

AstridWipenaugh , to news in Maryland roommates claim police detained them at gunpoint for no reason and shot their pet dog: "No remorse"

The police are funded by taxpayers, so it doesn’t matter if it’s the city or the police that pay for it, you still foot the bill no matter what. The only solution where citizens don’t lose is if cops are required to carry personal malpractice insurance, like doctors. IMO making cops personally liable for their murders is a good place to start.

AstridWipenaugh , to asklemmy in What's an easy yet useful skill that everyone should learn?

It made you feel something. Now sit there quietly and think about why that is. What are you getting frustrated with? Why is it bothering you? Unfounded rage is trying to tell you something about yourself. There’s a reason, but you have to be able to be honest with yourself to figure out what it is. Once you can begin to understand it, you can begin to find ways to manage it.

You’re not wrong, but shareholders look at their investment very differently than stockholders. Private shareholders can’t necessarily cash out whenever they want because the sale of private equity is usually tightly controlled by the company. This means they need to be interested in long-term growth and success. While public stockholders can also hold their shares for a long time, there’s much more ability and incentive to buy and sell quickly to make a quick profit.

Anecdotally, I worked for a publicly traded company for 6 years before they got bought and taken private by a private equity group. The way profitability and trends are measured is night and day. As a public company, everything was hyper focused on quarter by quarter results. One underperforming quarter meant a tank in stock prices, hiring freezes, and a general sentiment to the employees of “quit spending money on expenses if you want to have a job next quarter”. Being controlled by private equity, they’re most concerned with year over year growth and the long-term stability of our operations.

If I’m trying to pass on a dotted yellow (legal) and my car thinks I’m drunk and kills the engine or governs me to 10 mph, I’m fucked. Remotely stopping a car without situational review is super dangerous (for humans in them).

They cited their sources and included direct quotations from the bill. Are you saying any of their claims about what the bill says are untrue? It’s good to have a healthy amount of skepticism, especially for groups with known biases, but what’s your point in calling this out here?

AstridWipenaugh , to memes in Seriously spends $80 to drive 20km..

It costs like $30 to rent a box truck from home depot to take a big load home. I can get a few sheets of plywood on my Outback with a couple ratchet straps and not going over 40 lol.

AstridWipenaugh , to memes in Everytime

I got physically attacked on the playground pretty much every day for years in elementary school. I feared my parents more than the attackers, so I took my lumps and never fought back. The teachers didn’t care. One day I had enough. Grabbed the kid punching me, threw him to the ground, and kicked him a couple dozen times. He had bruises on his arms, legs, and torso and probably a few bruised ribs. The principal told me that fighting is never ok, but she didn’t see it so couldn’t say if there was a fight or not and warned me against getting into any fights in the future because she’d probably see those… First time any staff stood up for me. No problem though, every one of those kids left me alone and never bothered me again.

It’s not visibly reflective. Yes, it’s white, but it’s cool to the touch because the majority of the energy is radiated out into space via non-visible wavelengths. Someone has already posted a great YouTube video from Night Hawk In Light in a comment where he explains how this tech works and makes his own paint!
