AstridWipenaugh , to news in New York man convicted of murdering woman in car that turned into his driveway

That sounds like good police work. They knew where the person was, went to the area, and used their words to resolve the situation. If only all cops could show this kind of restraint and patience when apprehending a suspect…

AstridWipenaugh , to asklemmy in What has been your best financial move in life?

Bought a house in 2012. It’s now worth almost 3x what I paid for it then. So wildly unfair.

AstridWipenaugh , to aboringdystopia in A literal child taking orders in a fast food restaurant in the US

Our schools do a “spirit night” fundraiser at a business once a month. The business donates a portion of the sales to the school during a specific time frame. Child labor is not involved.

AstridWipenaugh , to technology in Unity bans VLC from Unity Store.

Epic is just a troll company. They donated to Godot when it served as a jab in the side of their competition (unity). Their entire business model is to inflict Stockholm Syndrome on their users via free games.

AstridWipenaugh , to news in A boomer retirement bomb is about to blow up America's economy

Boomers drink used motor oil and eat asbestos toast. It’s called moxie, kid.

AstridWipenaugh , to lemmyshitpost in Goodbye MatPat, thanks for everything

I think that’s Tom Zendaya from Skibidi Drip Rizz.

AstridWipenaugh , to world in Day one of the ICJ genocide hearing against Israel: Key takeaways

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Thursday that the United States sees no basis for South Africa’s allegation of genocide against Israel over civilian deaths in Gaza.

We’re the bad guys… I’m so embarrassed.

AstridWipenaugh , to news in Trump claims he didn’t have ‘fair notice’ that Georgia actions could be illegal

He knows all this. This is just more nonsense to drag it out. The court can’t just say “shut the fuck up Donny” and move forward else he’ll claim unfair treatment. So they have to accept the motions and take the time to carefully disqualify them. This is just a tactic to cast more doubt on the proceedings and make it take longer so he can complain about how they’re dragging it out to make him look bad because he’s innocent and they don’t have the evidence to convict.

AstridWipenaugh , to technology in Israel grants Intel $3.2 billion for new $25 billion chip plant

That’s the same kind of logic you use about how much you saved when you buy something on sale. Would have saved more if you didn’t buy it at all; Israel would collect more tax money if they didn’t give them massive subsidies and tax breaks.

AstridWipenaugh , to games in What's up with Epic Games?

This is exactly it. They’re not building their brand by providing a superior service/experience or driving market prices down. They’re using venture capital to fund giving away games to get you to use their wildly subpar services. They’re trying to buy market position without the services to justify it.

AstridWipenaugh , to selfhosted in What's your favorite note-taking application?

notion.so It’s a web-based editor with a good android app. Has basic formatting, plugins/integrations, and dark mode. It’s free for individual use cases. Has some nice paid features for collaboration and business use cases, though the free plan still allows sharing and concurrent editing.

E: noticed this is in self hosted after posting. Maybe not what you’re looking for, but it’s a good service if you’re ok with that.

AstridWipenaugh , to news in Iowa won't participate in US food assistance program for kids this summer

You can budget for cheese on $1.29 a day? You could get rice and black beans twice a day for that, but not much else. I wouldn’t consider that “definitely enough”…

AstridWipenaugh , to news in Paramedics Found Guilty in Last Trial in Elijah McClain Death

This situation isn’t really about the paramedics or if sedation is a good practice. The cops never should have touched the victim. There was literally nothing going on; he was walking down the street minding his own business and the cops attacked him and caused all of this. The Aurora PD are a bunch of drunken thugs (I live where this happened). Some of the Aurora PD members took a selfie mocking the murder at the site of the murder. They get busted for being drunk at work with shocking regularity, and there are rarely any consequences. Here’s one of their more stellar members: kdvr.com/…/aurora-officer-found-drunk-passed-out-…

AstridWipenaugh , (edited ) to news in Paramedics Found Guilty in Last Trial in Elijah McClain Death

Maybe try sedating the cops? They’ll be less aggressive and less likely to escalate.

E: spelling

AstridWipenaugh , to lemmyshitpost in It's canon now. And so is a certain image format.

Oh yeah? Well lick my gargantuan gorilla gonads.
