I read a review of Alex Pheby's Malarkoi that made it sound right up my street, so I read Mordew, (first in the series) and wow. Complex, dark, baroquely inventive, gorgeous prose—generally everything I love about Mervyn Peake but written with a real sense of mission.

OK, readers! where a pro hockey player travels back to 1812 and does a marriage convenience with Lizzy Wooddash so she can become a window and a lady of leisure when he “dies" (aka sent back to his timeline). Sparks, of course, ensue. HEA obviously. Comes out Nov 11! I have an eARC and I'll be reading this soon with a review forthcoming.

Maryann reviews "Zero Tolerance" by Jackie Keswick, Zero Rising book 3:

"Keswick immerses the reader in another fascinating tale... I have only high praise for Zero Tolerance and the rest of the “Zero Rising” series. Keswick is multi-talented – this series is outstanding, worth reading over and over."

Just realized that right now I am actively reading:

-The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles
-A Power Unbound by Freya Marske
-Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher
-The City of Brass by SA Chakraborty
-Vita Nostra by Marina Dyachenko
-Mother Daughter Murder Night by Nina Simone

That’s too much, even for me. What should I focus on finishing first?

Saw today in theatres! I read the book and LOVED it, but felt disappointed with the movie. 🙁 I know there's only so much they can fit within a couple hours but it felt rushed and lacked a lot of the emotional depth between Lily and Atlas that was present in the book. Still a great movie though. I think they did a great job touching on the topic of domestic abuse without making it really graphic. Good movie, but the book was better. 😉
