Today is Ira Levin's birthday.
These were some of the first adult horror books I ever read besides Stephen King, because my mother had this set of hardcovers. She let me have it when I moved out. They're so different than the books she read(s)- I don't think she ever even read these- but I'm glad the universe sought fit to bring them into my life.
(I got the paperback of STEPFORD WIVES a couple years ago because I adore the cover.)
"How many books are sold in the United States? The only tracker we have is BookScan, which logs point of sale—i.e., customer purchases at stores, websites, etc.—for most of the market. BookScan counted 767 million print sales in 2023."
💙📚 The Popular Library PBs with artwork by the amazing William Teason
(There are other editions, and I have some, but this is the complete set of the ones with this font) A labor of love that was finally completed w the help of a very generous, lovely author 🖤

I’m hesitant to offer discounts for reviews with Autistic Bookshop because authors would lose 10% profit. I could do 5% for a review, but that results in a different author losing 5% profit for a review on someone else’s book.
Giving 10% off just my stuff doesn’t seem enough. Could give nothing, but I don’t think honesty and good will are motivating enough. Reviews help the autistic authors make more money.
@ashleyspencer@actuallyautistic I think as both an autistic person who loves to read hard copy books, and may well begin writing full books in the years ahead, my main issue is that this sort of petty gaming is what I go to Independent book stores/sellers to avoid.
I read down the thread/responses especially for the price point too & that kind of cemented this for me.... the last time I spent even a penny under $10 for a decent book, that wasn't from a library sale, nor mass market clearance, was over a decade ago.
Paying for book reviews is done by 3rd party entities for big publishers & shouldn't be expanded to the Indy world at all.
I haven’t read this YA novel yet, but I am definitely very intrigued and added it to the top of my tbr. I love the blurb and the cover and cannot wait to read it ! I will share it in the #littlefreelibrary afterwards !
On their fruit farm a mother tells the story of her almost-famous young actress days, and its aftermath, to her three 20-something daughters. It's lockdown and they're trying to get the cherry harvest in with 1 migrant family instead of 12. Her good husband already knows the story. As masterful & beguiling as only Ann Patchett can. Five bright stars
