I’m learning about brain zaps - they feel like electric shocks in your brain. They are a lovely side effect [yes, that is sarcasm] of stopping venlafaxine (effexor) before trying a different antidepressant for preventing chronic migraine.

I also feel like I just got hit by a truck and every inch of my body hurts.

tbh - I am now afraid of trying the new antidepressant (nortriptyline).

Suggestions via your personal experience welcome (no mansplaining)

Requirements to put in a job description to discourage or filter out autistic people:

  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong people skills
  • Good culture fit
  • Multitasking
  • A fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Bachelor's degree or better

I see these things and think you don't want my >30 years of programming and machine learning experience, or my problem-solving skills and comprehensive knowledge that had people mistaking me for one of the team's PhDs, or my solutions that have proven patent-worthy. Your loss.

UC President Drake just announced they've appointed Catherine Spear to head UC's new Systemwide Office of Civil Rights (which will include a Systemwide Office of Disability Rights under it).

The announcement does not go into what their lived experience qualifications might be.

@disability @academicchatter " Hiring Catherine is one of a series of steps we are taking to provide centralized oversight for these campus functions and a more consistent approach to how the University responds to allegations of discrimination and harassment." ⬅️ These framings continue to give the game away. For them it is not about NOT discriminating. Not about NOT being inaccessible and toxic places for marginalized parts of the public that funds them to be. It's simply about responding to allegations and trying to keep from getting sued too hard.

"Introduced in the 1990s in the United States by black women activists, the concept of reproductive justice highlights how access to reproductive rights is impeded by gender, race and class oppressions. The entry presents the origins of the reproductive justice movement in the United States and the circulation of this notion in activist and academic spheres internationally."

'The body which leaks, desires, rages, and lusts is seemingly disjointed from the dry and dense writings that often characterize Adorno's work. As bleak as this description of Adorno's writings may be, however, the body is both central to his critique of modernity and the site of hope and desire against the total domination and suffering that capitalism imposes. This paper highlights some of the ways in which feminist philosophy of disability and disability studies, more generally, would benefit by thinking in constellation with Adorno's negative dialectic to interrogate the ways in which meanings get made about bodies and, furthermore, use the margins of difference, in relation with others, to challenge what Adorno calls the "wrong state of things." I argue that the transfigured crip to come is central to this fight against the "wrong state of things."'

This ought to be good. Is this the same Pablo Reguerín who was sitting alongside Chancellor May at an interview with The California Aggie's editorial where May lobbied for the student fee supporting NCAA athlete perqs by likening NCAA athletes to disabled students by saying they too needed "special" supports? And didn't say anything about that? That Reguerín?

Do you know who was among the chancellors who never replied to hundreds of emails regarding UC's ableism? Chancellor May of UC Davis!! @disability @academicchatter

@disability @academicchatter If you want to know how UC Davis is treating disabled students, ask us.

But a clue is in the fact that this is an in-person only talk. And that the advertisement of the talk contained no accessibility info even for the in-person part!

I think as well as sharing my Autistic experiences I'm going to also try and share information about my combination of chronic diseases and what it does to an individual's body over time... It seems many people I am close to have never even heard much about Celiac's or especially Graves' disease...

I created a blog some time ago for my Autistic Journaling... I'm going to use it to share experiences with my chronic illness as well.

If you have US federal programs or offices you depend on, get your business done before Friday. The fascists in the GOP are wanting to shut down the government again. Which means many federal things you depend on will not be available.

Plan ahead.

Classic Medicare is good.

Unfortunately, many people got fooled into signing up for Medicare Advantage - which is for-profit insurance's attempt to direct more taxpayer money its way while denying more claims than Classic Medicare would.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is holding a public comment period, ending March 1.

The proposal is for a 3.7% increase in payments to Medicare Advantage plans in 2025.

Please take the time to make comment against the increase.

But if you want to help yourself while helping UC paper over their lack of dedication to mobility justice, take a look. @blackmastodon
