Kevin Roberts remembers when he could get a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink from Five Guys for $10. But that was years ago. When the Virginia high school teacher recently visited the fast-food chain, the food alone without a beverage cost double that amount....
While I’ll admit it may not be as bad as most fast food, calling it “healthy” is a bit of a stretch. The average 6inch sub has about the same range of calories as a burger from most chains. The meat is still processed and the rest of the nutrients are basically a big mac.
6inch #18 Ultimate BMT from subway has 560 calories, 42gr of fat, 75mg of cholesterol and 1570mg of sodium.
BigMac has 590 calories, 46gr of fat, 85mg of cholesterol and 1050mg of sodium.
I will give you that you can order a salad and if you are being really conscious you can get a more healthy meal. The fact remains the average standard order is pretty equivalent.
Book review #18 for 2024 is W Craig Reed's Red November: Inside the Secret US-Soviet Submarine War. Beginning with 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and continuing into the early 1990's, Reed's book recounts US sub operations and their electronic surveillance and espionage missions into Soviet territory. I liked it and thought it gave some excellent background to some Cold War era events.

No wait, US has one of the highest rate of death from gun violence.
That’s not really true if you look at per capita figures. USA is #18, with 4.46 firearm-related homicides per 100K. Compare to something like El Salvador, which was 71.60 per 100K in 2015.
USA is not fabulous in this departement obviously, but it’s not like latin america. Specifically, it doesn’t seem like the number of legally owned guns directly correlates with the amount of gun homicides. If you look at the top ten countries on gun ownership, all of them have the firearm-related homicides figure < 5.0 and 8 of them under 0.8.
Whoa, thanks for the link! Fascinating! So this WAS potentially an early non-silicone PV panel.
“If Philip Pesavento’s historical account and hypotheses are correct, George Cove set out to build a thermoelectric generator but accidentally made a photovoltaic generator – a PV solar cell.”
“By mid-1909, Cove had moved to New York City, where he presented his third prototype, a solar array consisting of four solar panels of 60 watt-peak each, which charged a total of five lead-acid batteries. The total surface area was 4.5 m2, the maximum power output was 240 watts, and efficiency rose to 5% – similar to the first solar panel presented by Bell Labs. [18]”
Sadly, reference #18 does not actually list a reference but a statement by t Mr. Cove which is impossible as he is currently deceased.
