I first joined Lemmy back during the big Reddit exodus of last year. I like many others wanted an alternative to Reddit, and I thought that this might’ve been the one. I made two accounts, one on lemmy.world and another on sh.itjust.works, in the June of last year that I used on and off for about 4 months....
It is entirely up to you; every set of eyes that reads this.
Every post, every community you participate within, every upvote, every positive interaction is helping this place grow. All we need to do is make a place people want to visit; add value to their and our own lives.
I moderate !3dprinting and a couple of others that are not active. I’m at 179 posts and 1485+1 comments. I’m here a few times at least on most days.
I try and post in as many other communities as I can and be as positive an influence as I can manage.
The best thing you can do is upvote and participate in absolutely every little niche you can possibly participate in. I’m a jack of all trades master of none, but I’ll even go outside of my comfort zone to try and support everything I can. I don’t just take from this place, I want to build it, to grow with it, to be a part of it. I am the fediverse. You are the fediverse. It is what you make of it.
I posted this when there were less than 5k active users on Lemmy and .world was a couple of weeks old: lemmy.world/post/36032
The Open Source Cartridge Reader is a great diy project for dumping your own roms and saves. If you order a kit with the surface mount components already installed, it’s also a great beginner soldering project.
I’ve been following Naomi for several years, and I’m convinced that she’s the kind of functional genius that the world needs more of. I really don’t understand why she hasn’t had better reception and support from the US maker community and tech press. I think the way she’s been treated is a combination of envy, sexism and racism/jingoism.
I think the 3D printing community should be more aware of her situation, so I’ve cross-posted this to !3dprinting and !3DPrinting
Like many people, I am a refuge from Reddit as well. I had a nice multireddit set up on RIF Is Fun that I’d love to duplicate here. Think 3d printing and microcontrollers, woodworking, DIY, and physical creations of all kinds. I’d be thrilled to see knife-making posts right next to an automated pet feeder next to...
Oh there’s also obviously the big 3dprinting only instance at !3dprinting for 3d printing specific, but when I searched around for generic “maker” stuff I couldn’t find anything else.
