………genocides? That requires a fuckassload of elaboration. To my knowledge, which is an unfortunate amount, the modern Chinese state hasn’t engaged in anything which could be labled a genocide. The US state, however, is currently sanctioning (a lighter form but still a form/method of genocide) multiple nations for no reasons they can explain properly. Cuba being chief among them. Support of Israel and Saudi Arabia (and others) is also supporting genocide (of the Palestinians and the Yemenis respectively).
China on the other hand, in the last couple decades, has been “accused” of “cultural genocide” an important word to note is cultural… they then made changes to the tactics of imprisoning Uyghurs, which is debatable how much/how bad it was to begin with, and basically all the stuff anyone could complain about in that respect has either been disproven or corrected. The US has absolutely no moral ground to stand on here though considering the historic and ongoing treatment of black and indigenous peoples in the US which are treated insanely far worse than anything ever accused of China in regards to the Uyghurs, which again, they stopped doing the spying and arresting/harassment shit once people complained. That’s kind of the difference between the US and China… China usually stops doing shitty shit when people call them out on it (if it was ever even shitty or real to begin with- many stories the US state dept tries to push (remember that balloon thing? Lmao) are straight up lies based on Sinophobia).
It’s incredibly odd to criticize China, admit western nations have and are fucking you harder, but then still rail against China so hard. My advice: change what you can change. That means change the laws and the actions of the western government you live under. Once that is done THEN you can perhaps criticize foreign governments. Further advice: do so on things they’ve actually done, not made up or super exaggerated projections from the western state departments/media (same thing).

Gourch was very clear to dismiss extraterrestrial origins. And his boss’s quoted denial to Congress claimed there was no evidence of extraterrestrial origin.
The same theoretical physics Gourch discussed (effectively wormholes) to travel faster than light is the same principle to travel through time (i.e. spacetime).
Earth has only been sending out detectable signals of intelligence for around a century which would have reached a max radius of around a hundred light years.
That’s not a lot of area for extraterrestrial life to have come from to give a crap about visiting us.
But would future Earth be interested in visiting past Earth?
Would that origin maybe be more likely to be flying in formations like our own pilots do?
Or more likely to have tech tailored to explicitly target our modern radar systems to disable them?
It’s much more of a leap to arrive at extraterrestrial life being aware of and interested in Earth and humanity so early on in our signals production to come so frequently that sightings are commonplace, and yet be using tech and behaviors that are closer to a far future version of our own rather than something that seemed to have evolved entirely separately.
If this is some physics breaking origin, it’s from our own future, not from some odd corner of space.
This is the second tech community to do this in 2 days. The megathread in the other instance is already dead one day in. This stifles discussion, it does not just move it around.
To borrow from one of my comments over there: Nobody checks megathreads unless it’s an ongoing, high profile situation. I guarantee you this megathread is going to get essentially no engagement within 48 hours and now for some odd reason all news about SpaceX, Twitter, Tesla, and Musk, is functionally banned.
This is a terrible idea and I know every mod here knows this is functionally a ban. I can't stand Musk but this is a really bad idea.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell suddenly stopped speaking during a weekly Republican leadership news conference Wednesday afternoon, appearing to freeze, and then went silent and was walked away.
It’s odd how many people in this thread are calling Twitter a tech company. It’s a media company, closer to the New York Times and Washington Post than to Google or even something like John Deere.
I guess at least she lived long enough to be vindicated for the reason she was cancelled.
That had to be both infuriating and a relief, to some degree. Her career was destroyed/damaged for no good reason. So personally I’d be livid but at the same time, the see, I was right, had to feel kinda oddly good.
Does not sure. Cannot though… How does that work? What’s so imperative that it warrants cutting off communication for this person’s daughter? Like I get telling a kid to wait till in between classes to check, but “cannot have” the right? Why?
Even I think this is a bit pedantic, but it feels like you’re using the word cannot for an odd authority grab, and I don’t understand it, so I figured I’d question it at the very least
Just started playing GTA IV on the Steam Deck after having it sitting in my Steam library for years. It’s really fun. I really like the protagonist, the setting, and it’s openness. It’s a bit more tame than GTA V which I have played as well and I prefer the more subdued tone.
My only issue with IV is that Niko’s constant agonising over not wanting to kill people anymore is at odds with the general gameplay of GTA; a game where you’ll probably end up killing at least one innocent person on your way to the mission, let alone the dozen or so cops/criminals you’ll kill during the mission.
The ending really got me though. On my first playthrough I drove around the city for at least an hour real-time trying to decide what to do.
I’d be more inclined to believe they’re probes from higher dimensional beings than that they’re intelligent life from other stars/planets, but even that I’d give astronomically low odds to. It’s like a 99.999999999% chance it’s some unknown phenomenon or misunderstood sensor reading/glitch, 0.0000000009% chance it’s something from a higher dimension, and 0.0000000001% chance it’s aliens.
…it’s from a odd technicality where on ol’ blighty, a male can’t be “raped” because of how the laws are written. Call it a peculiarity of their system or sexism, but it results in oddly sounding charges like what you see reported at least.
It doesn’t say anything for me, it’s an odd shape of different coloured orbs and yes i am confirmed colour blind. Red green, i keep forgetting what it’s called.
Oddly enough, none. Kind of like seeing the sheer variety the Internet had to offer (plus those folks have so much confidence it’s almost admirable). And at least it’s not gore-- I’ve seen accidently seen way too many dead bodies mindlessly unblurring pictures on Reddit or foolishly clicking troll links.
Probably going to change to block nsfw when my little ones are old enough to steal my phone and browse my account, though.

For example I’d love to buy an electric car but they’re just far too expensive for me to be able to afford. I need something, so I get a cheap and 2nd hand car. Inevitably that is an ICE because even second-hand electrics are hugely expensive. Yet somehow I’m the one targeted?
Why are they not targeting the people who are actually the problem rather than irritating the general public who broadly agree with them in principle who but lack the ability to really do anything effective.
Im 49. The alt right was a lot smaller because their philosophy of isolation was at odds with the globalist perspectives of the neocons in charge. There were racists but they were not as invested in reactionary politics.
FCC chair: Speed standard of 25Mbps down, 3Mbps up isn’t good enough anymore::Chair proposes 100Mbps national standard and an evaluation of broadband prices.
I live in middle America and oddly enough the rural areas have started getting fiber from utility companies. I live in a town of about 40,000 and the best you can hope for is either DSL from AT&T which is maybe 25Mbps with perfect conditions or Optimum Cable internet which is sold as “Gigabit” that never breaks 400Mbps and cost about $120/mo. I’ve also had to file multiple complaints with the FCC to have issues resolved. My connection for about 6 months was completely unusable when it rained and even after “fixing” the issue I have severely reduced speeds when it rains. It’s an absolute joke and nothing is in place to protect consumers from any of this BS.

Perhaps, I’ve never really kept track of that content on usenet. But without usenet/torrent support that does make this *arr app kind of incompatible with the rest of the *arr ecosystem, just seems like an odd design choice.
I don’t look for that type of content too much but usually I’d just download packs from public torrent indexers e.g. Nemesis43 / Nem43 still uploads to 1337x and Demonoid. Those torrents often get mirrored to TorrentGalaxy too.

@JoeHill it’s rather odd how it works, as there are rules in the Mail app on macOS and they do sync. But you can only access and adjust those rules on a Mac and they only evaluate when the app is running on a Mac. It’s definitely something I wish they would add and integrate throughout all the iCloud ecosystem
