sounds like maybe your power supply might be dying or your system is pulling more than that psu can handle. mine recently blew a capacitor with a loud bang and magic electronics smoke after a few months of odd problems with shutting down in the middle of an intensive game. i think the fan died about a year ago bc my temps had been higher than they used to and after it popped the side of the case by the psu was very warm. i came to find that my gpu upgrade pushed my power draw to 450w when my psu was only rated for 530w and not 750w like i thought i remembered. makes sense it was pushed to it’s limit. maybe recheck your power requirements with an online psu calc and compare to your psu rating. and also look to see if its fan is still running and not clogged up with dust.
I only just bought a new PSU to go with the GPU upgrade. It’s 850W so should be more than enough power. Just seems odd that it’s only an issue with one game.
you most literally can change the rules of language on the fly. that’s kinda how language works and is created.
edit: removed the last comment as the previous guy was the one going on about sex first, regardless, differing levels of hormones can often influence this, considering males can have varying levels of estrogen and vice versa for females and testosterone. other animals often portray characteristics opposite that of their sex, as well.
this is just an odd thing for you to care about. why wouldn’t you instead let people live their life without your criticism when they clearly are having trouble parsing their place in life and their understanding of themselves.
specifically talking about 3, 4, 5, and the “expansion” games like Blood Dragon and New Dawn. And I still haven’t played Far Cry 6 so I can’t comment on that....
That's what I was going to suggest as well. Basically, the planets and whatever is on the could benefit from a greater degree of procedural generation, even if as trivial as variable room layouts, but a deeper system (variable objects, contents, colors, designs based on the module manufacturer like with ship habs, etc.) would greatly remedy the repetitiveness, as with the current system, you've basically seen all the POIs or the type once you've seen one of them.
Planet surface is nice, though, because I agree with Bethesda's idea of barren and deserted planets being much more prevalent than those that support any kind of life or even atmosphere. Elevation and scenery changes are also fine by me.
But still, POIs are oddly repetitive, even if somewhat numerous. They definitely should've gone for the more roguelike approach or something and use more proc gen with these.
Finished up my time with Starfield for now. If you’d told me a month ago that it would be the main story that would keep me playing, I wouldn’t have believed you. The story was way better than I was expecting and far and away my favorite one in a Bethesda game. As for the rest, ehhh. There are a lot of steps back here, and I really don’t like the visuals. Felt like my character was smoking inside her helmet or something. Having framerates regularly dip into the 40’s even with DLSS and tons of other tweaks really didn’t help.
I will say this: aside from some sounds with oddly harsh high frequencies (there’s a mod for that), the audio team really nailed this one. The voice acting is phenomenal, and I’d love to hear this soundtrack performed live.
Feeling non-committal at the moment. Was considering replaying Disco Elysium, but really I’m just waiting for the new Cyberpunk content.
I am Ganesh, an Indian atheist and I don’t eat beef. It’s not like that I have a religious reason to do that, but after all those years seeing cows as peaceful animals and playing and growing up with them in a village, I doubt if I ever will be able to eat beef. I wasn’t raised very religious, I didn’t go to temple...
I find that to be really odd behavior tbh. One of the issues with organized religion is when a group shuns or hates on someone for their religious/ spiritual views. That’s also something that can happen with atheism, even if it’s not really seen as a “religion”.
In most of the “free” world democracy is an illusion, you choose from people whos agenda always was to make rich friends and therefore money. Their branding, or what they call their “views” is simply chosen based on how they feel about their odds of getting elected.
This is what ripe democracy+capitalism works. The capital bought the political class and the political class upholds the illusion because feudalism didn’t hold up. The only thing that changed after WW I was that we replaced genetic nobility with capital nobility and multiplied them.
No evidence that UFOs are aliens — NASA attempts to make conversations about aerial phenomena more scientific::NASA attempts to make conversations about aerial phenomena more scientific.
The answer? You think there is only one? UAPs are a hodgepodge of anomalies. They’re not a single phenomenon. There are people in various fields who would and do study them. Odd things on a radar will certainly be of interest to radar manufacturers for exqmple.
But we all know what people mean by UFOs, er., UAPs. “I’m not saying it’s aliens. But it’s aliens…”
I hadn’t cried in 7 years and decided to do some emotional exercises to make myself cry. So I managed to cry about 4 months ago, haven’t been able to since even with my grandmothers death. Might start trying again.
I lost my cat recently, the first one that was truly mine. he was only about 2.5 years old, but when me and my partner moved into the city together, he went missing shortly after we started allowing him outside access (he was born feral and always loved the outdoors).
a few weeks later he was hit by a car some kilometres from our house, and a couple of weeks after that, his microchip was scanned and tracked back to us.
I sobbed for about half an hour when I first got some time alone after finding out. I still tear up thinking about him at odd times. I've never loved any animal quite as much, and I wonder if I ever will again. thinking about coming home to him was all that got me through many days of work. sometimes thinking about him just makes me feel like I don't want to be alive anymore, despite my partner and the two lovely kittens we still have.
I love the idea of Wayland, but it only finally actually booted for me onto the desktop earlier this year (on Manjaro KDE). But it still randomly freezes for about a full minute, quite a bit. I am keen to move to it as my compositor hangs on X11 for some odd reason on KDE every time I try to do a rectangular area screenshot with Spectacle (mmm just realised it is also for around a minute - maybe I do have some other underlying issue), or when accessing the Compositor menu option. But X11 is still otherwise rock solid for me.
The most expensive thing I’ve had that was really notable (as I’m sure I’ve ordered something pricier and thought nothing of it) was half an A5 wagyu steak from Wegmans. I think it was originally around $250/lb but it was on a manager’s special sale. I think it was around $80 for a ½lb, which is genuinely insane to me knowing that manager’s special means it’s the last chance to buy something before it goes bad.
Anyway, it was really good. A very odd experience though because afterwards I kinda stopped craving/ cooking/ ordering beef for a couple months. It was like I achieved some superlative thing and was just done with the concept of beef for a little bit. A strange reaction to such a positive experience, that said I do still eat beef occasionally.
Amazon.com’s Whole Foods Market doesn’t want to be forced to let workers wear “Black Lives Matter” masks and is pointing to the recent US Supreme Court ruling permitting a business owner to refuse services to same-sex couples to get federal regulators to back off....
Lots of places ban attire or even the direction you wear your hat already and that extends to customers so it doesn’t seem all that odd to ban something affiliated with mass arson.
It seems to me like WF is trying to avoid a bud light situation. Employees wearing BLM stuff will certainly put off a lot of people in many areas. So it’s about not alienating a big portion of their customers, which would be a significant hit to sales.
Anyway, I find it odd to some extent that a business was not allowed, possibly, to limit what employees wear, especially if they interact with customers. A key tenant of sales and customer service is to make the person feel respected and to take an interest (fake if nothing else) in the customer.

I pirate metric shitloads of movies and series. I don’t pirate music or games (much).
I watch maybe 5-10% of what I download. That’s probably true for the games I buy as well.
The reason is part convenience. I probably listen to royalty free 95% music of the time, but for the other occasions Spotify has anything and everything I want to listen to. I can’t beat that library.
I game on Linux, the Switch and old retro computers. The old retro computers have all pirated games on them, but for Linux and Switch I buy my stuff on the Nintendo shop and Steam. They have everything and it just works.
The video streaming services of today have also taught me that they will pull licenses. When Netflix had a big library I stuck mostly to that, but today it feels like all the good content has been pulled and they mostly just have Netflix originals. So Hollywood has taught me that If I want to watch something, I shouldn’t rely on it being available on my streaming service of choice in the future. I’m not going to subscribe to a dozen streaming services just for the odd chance that I want to watch something particular. I’m going to have my own plex server with everything I might want to watch.
The one show that would make me consider getting a second streaming subscription just to support it is Futurama. But of course, Hulu is not available in my region… so, yarr.

Well with bare metal yes, but when your architecture is virtual, configuration rises in importance as the first line of defense. So it’s not just “yum —update” and reboot to remediate a vulnerability, there is more to it; the odds of a home lab admin keeping up with that seem remote to me.
Encryption is interesting, there really is no practical difference between cloud vs self hosted encryption offerings other than an emotional response.
Regarding security issues, it will depend on the provider but one wonders if those are real or imagined issues?
@actuallyautistic
Does this happen to you:
I often have trouble focusing while my hearing fades in and out at about 1 second intervals. It's like there's some muscle or something pulsing behind my ears at the back of my nasal cavity.
I used to think it was an anxiety thing, before it was diagnosed with autism (but after I was dx GAD and CPTSD). But I have never heard of a similar experience in anyone else.

After about 3 hours of driving, you’re going to be ready for a break. At 70mph, that’s 210 miles.
Batteries tend to charge quicker in the first 80% than the last 20%, and also don’t charge quickly in the last 10%, so add an additional 30%.
Add another 20% for cold days. There are a few odd days of extremely cold weather where it’d be lower, but this is rare anywhere people actually live. Long range traveling on those days is also highly discouraged regardless of the type of car. Or even short range traveling, for that matter.
We do not need to hold back the rest of society just because a handful of people live in the arctic circle.
Add all that together, and you get to about 330 miles. This is enough to get you to 80% charge at each stop, likely within 30 minutes. Maybe even 20. Just right for a food and bathroom break that you’re going to want, anyway.
If you think the number should be 4 hours of driving rather than 3, then 440 miles is the number to shoot for.
Current electric cars are about there already. Further battery advancement can go towards making the cars lighter and cheaper, not pushing range to unnecessary distance.
