Don’t like them, they are annoying to deal with - CLI naming is odd, files are stored unintuitively and if your whole system is not on flatpak, chances are the sizes are going to be absurd. One of the main reasons I wen’t with Arch is Pacman + AUR, never have to install a flatpak, because the package management is so good.
Have my #ActuallyAutistic comrades ever had a meltdown or become seriously dysregulated from a dish being served in a way totally different than what you expected?
@theautisticcoach@actuallyautistic But that's why I always wear my autism lanyard when out and about. I wasn't wearing it that day so all they saw was a 50ish year old man getting upset because his burger wasn't on the menu.
It was just the straw that broke the camel's back on that day.
I now wear my lanyard and "Autism ID" every time I leave the house as I don't know what may trigger a meltdown.
doesn't STOP me getting the odd looks but at least explains to them WHY i'm flapping.
This is not supposed to happen in a market economy, as you have in developed countries. Many people define “capitalism” as being, more or less, that system.
A narrower definition of “capitalism” is private control of the means of production. In that sense, “capitalism” is at odds with a market economy, which is one reason why that private control is limited in many ways in developed countries.
To your first point, much to the benefit of humanity, and counter to popular belief, the internet is NOT forever. Between link rot, data purges, corporate buyouts, transmission compression losses, and general human stupidity, large swaths of the internet have vanished. Hell, just Macromedia selling out to Adobe ended up causing the loss of most of the popular internet games and videos for anyone in their mid to late 30s at this point (you will be misses Flash). The odds of these specific AI-generated child porn pictures surviving even in some dark corner of the bright web are slim to none. And if they end up surviving in the dark web, well, anyone who sees them will likely have a LOT of explaining to do.
Also, for the commentary of the websites keeping the images. That is doubtful, beyond holding them in an account-bound locker for the user to retrieve. They don’t care and too many images get generated every day for them to see it as more than reinforcement training.
Speaking of reinforcement training, they may have been able to use Photoshop’s new generative fill to do this, but to actually generate fresh images of a specific peer they would have had to train a LoRA or Hypernerwork on photos of the girl so the SD could actually resolve it. They weren’t doing that on an AI site, especially not a free one. They were probably using ComfyUI or Automatic1111 (I use both myself). They are free, open source, locally executed software that allow you to use the aforementioned tools when generating. That means that the images were restricted to their local machine, then transferred to a cell phone and distributed to friends.
The joke is that they thought they found an exception to this observation, and while they’re right that two does not have an e in it, they’re wrong in thinking it’s an odd number
And in case you don’t feel like watching that: It’s a meme harkening back to the stupidity displayed on a well known tumblr post, one of the many displays of which was somebody insisting 2 was odd.
Tbh I don’t get these kind of memes, as far as I remember picard never really gives a deadline, just asks for it as quick as possible, with geordi busting his ass every time to try to get it done, regardless of whether or not it’s actually possible.
And, in those situations, I really don’t think picard is being unreasonable. When your options are “do the tech thing” or “have long odds at pulling something else off”, asking for the tech thing as quickly as possible sounds pretty reasonable to me
I’d get a team of the best lawyers I could find to sit down with the genie and me to hash out a lengthy contract devoiding any intentional curse and put in a hefty monetary incentive for the lawyers to get it right, as well as punishment clauses for breaking it, then wish that the genie had to unwaveringly abide by that contract. That way, if he makes me suffer he has to suffer too or redo my request to my satisfaction.
Then I’d probably write in a steady, better than average and reasonably liveable income without having to work for it for the rest of my natural life.
Pretty sure I saw this concept in an early episode of fairly odd parents.
The trial over an effort in Minnesota to keep former President Donald Trump off of the 2024 ballot began Thursday at the state Supreme Court as a similar case continued in Colorado....
You’re totally correct, but you got a term backwards. You’re thinking “preponderance of evidence”. That’s the one where it’s just “better than even odds”.
“Beyond a reasonable doubt” is for criminal cases, and is “if there’s any reasonable explanation other than them doing it then they’re innocent”.
Red flag for me. I’m all for people having hobbies, but bringing up niche hobbies from childhood would not be great. I’m sure 2 fans would get along great. However, it would be odd to bring up with another adult who is not a known fan.
Technically it does have collective agreements just not with the company I work for.
A union, at least in Sweden, isn’t tied to a place of work so me working somewhere they don’t have a collective agreement isn’t that odd. Now it does mean I don’t get as much out of my membership but I still do gain some things. Like if my employer screws me over the union is there to help me and fight for me in court if need be. There are also some extra protections like if there is a layoff the company will need to negotiate and justify why I, or anyone else in my union, should be the one to loose their job.
At work, I have to run a command in an AWS instance. In that particular instance only exists the root user. The command should not be executed with root privileges (it executes mpirun, which is not recommended to run as sudo or the machine might break), so I was wondering if there is a way to block or disable the sudo privileges while the command is running. As mentioned, the only user existing there is root, so I suppose "sudo -u" is not an option.
It’s not that an Amazon instance can be a docker container. It was more that the behavior you are describing is extremely odd for a full Linux environment but normal for a docker container.
If you created the instance, it isn’t likely a container. But it also sounds like the base image might be poorly set up
Another homeschooler chiming in, my circles actually tended to perform better than our local public/private schooled friends on the SAT/ACT, and myself and a lot of my friends went in to some sort of STEM field.
Granted, there is a spectrum. As a homeschooling parent now I see a different side of this community. There are some kids that really should be in a school system because they aren’t being taught what they need to be taught. I don’t agree completely with the video, but John Oliver has a decent video he posted recently on homeschooling.
Side note, it’s really hard to find a balanced, not white-washed, Christian/not at odds with our worldview, but not Christian nationalist history curriculum. We have a worldview and want our kids to be educated in a manner that matches our world view, but we want them to learn accurately what happened throughout history. I might end up having to buy the curriculum in the article, it sounds promising.
Chicken genetics and probability.I have blue gold rooster with 3 black silver and one Blue Silver hen. Only the blue hen should be capable of ever throwing splash chicks. (splash is white with black/grey mottling) This season I have set and hatched 22 of their eggs. (100% hatch on them so far is awesome but one died from its mom stomping it 😞) If the hens are all laying the same rate 1/4 should come from the Blue silver hen. (5.5) Yet 5 of the 22 chicks we have hatched are splash. The odds that 5 out of 5 chicks are all splash are kinda crazy. (.097%) A Blue rooster over a Blue hen should result in 25% black 25% splash and 50% blue. The blue/black/splash coloring comes from genes that have 2 slots and 2 types. 2 copies of BL gives a black chicken 2 copies of bl+ give you a splash and one of each gene gives you a blue chicken. Each parent contributes 1 copy of one of their genes. So a black and a splash will give you blue chicks every time. https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/fd50e75c-c58a-4566-ba21-fdcee618524a.jpegIt is possible that I set more of the blue girls eggs but even doubling the number of her eggs (very unlikely) wouldn’t make the odds reasonable. The chance that it is some crazy mutation is also low because the mutation would have to be in the hen and be attached to both her BL and bl+ gene and it would have to over ride the male’s color gene completely.
“Your honor, I know it might seem oddly coincidental that I mostly shoot at criminals that are standing next to schools, but I assure you that the large number of child casualties is not my intent. In fact, it’s the kids’ fault that they let the criminals stand next to them!”
As a kid who notoriously defeated locks and found hidden items: good luck. My parents didn’t have guns to find but my uncle taught me about them when I was like 10 so tbh they were never really some mystical artifact to play with to me, I’d already shot a few, knew how to use them safely and not to do so without an adult, etc. Conversely nobody educated me about alcohol instead figuring locks would work, hehe. Surprise!
Yeah, I’m not going to escape a building with an active shooter to retrieve a gun and go back in
No lol you said work banned them, so people who work there and carry outside of work (maybe they have a life [sorry lol you seem cool but it was too perfect]) have to leave their gun in the car and put it in their pants at 5:00, so, were you to carry, you’d have to also do that. That is what I meant. Problem being, that rule makes for a good scenario for a gun thief. If there were an active shooter and you get out, fuck your coworkers that’s their problem, take your gun and go home (unless you wanted to help them because you like them or they’re humans or something, point being you aren’t obligated to.) As for cops, if you are following the laws (and yeah white helps, but that is another issue that needs to be fixed) they actually seem to think you’re on their side because “gun and following laws,” oddly they started treating me with some semblance of respect, it was kinda weird.
emergency exit near my workspace - would sound an alarm (not ideal)
Exactly ideal tbh, egress and alarm with one action? AND close? Sounds great.
main door - glass doorway that opens into the entryway and looks into my hallway (terrible)
Also a likely point of entry for the shooter, definitely terrible.
back door - need to pass a glass door to the lobby, and another to the lunch room; it opens up onto a balcony (long drop, would need to cross lots of windows either direction)
Kinda having trouble visualizing this but it doesn’t sound great, best bet is the emergency or shelter in place, but SIP is hampered by lack of last ditch weapon. I’d push it out that door.
Yeah I’d agree, simply since it’d be illegal. Functionally, even if I’m heading for that exit or sheltering, I’d rather have a hail mary even if some situations are a Kobyashi Maru, but since it would be illegal to have in the gun free zone, you don’t have a choice anyway.
On a sidenote, the completely non-shitposty version would be:
return !(var & 1);
Notice the single &, which should be bitwise AND. Fun thing: negative numbers in two’s complement also have 1 for their LSB when odd. C definitely supports bitwise operators, and it appears C# does as well.

I apparently have an odd body shape, shorter legs and I carry all my fat in my gut, so it makes finding comfortable jeans very difficult. What fits me is about a 31 or 32" waist (before I gained weight, now it’s like 35") and like 28" or 29" length, but no stores sell that so I started buying them online. Also I have minor gynecomastia (“bitch tits”) so tight shirts just look bad on me. I’m nipping like a woman in a freezer.
Before COVID I dropped 45 pounds and went down to 135 pounds at 5’9", everywhere else I had practically zero fat, but still had a decent sized gut and man boobs even though I had like 12.5% body fat. I bought a bunch of clothes that fit, then couldn’t do anything for 9 months and gained the majority of it back.
I’m trying again after 3 years and will need to buy new clothes again, but this time for a tropical climate, so it should be easier to find clothes that fit me well since most shirts everyone wears are button ups to let the air through and shorts.

Damn man, I feel for you. I just turned 38, and I know the custody struggles. My brother got involved with this girl 8 years younger than him about ten years ago and they dated on and off, always had issues. They willingly had a kid, and then once she was born all hell broke loose and the mother “became” crazy (she was always crazy but hid it well, idk exactly what her issues are, but she’s an only child and she lives with her mom in their trailer even though she’s like 32 and dropped out of high school apparently because people made fun of her voice a lot, it’s kinda high pitched and nasally). She became extremely possessive of her daughter, saying things like “this is my baby!” to my brother, not letting him do things with her while she wasn’t around , and a whole bunch of other shit. My brother isn’t an alcoholic but he does like to drink, he’s had 2 DUIs in the past, and she used that against him constantly. My brother said something he didn’t mean which she considered a threat against life (he was frustrated and said “I’m wanna fucking kill you right now” or something like that, that’s the way he expresses his frustration and has to her in the past I guess). The cops came, found his little bit of weed, 5 registered guns… and an antique pistol that wasn’t registered, which is a felony. He spent 3 days in jail for that shit. After that it was “mother’s rights” so she got to keep the kid in her trailer, instead of my brother’s 1 story house. He had to have surprised visitation for like 2 years, along with probation for like a year. During all of this she even concocted false stories about him and about my mother (the sweetest, most caring person in the world that was a respected special education teacher for 35 years). Long story slightly shorter: they went to court, my mom and brother won, which meant shared custody and he could take her wherever he wanted to without the mother’s permission.
I’m sorry to hear that your daughter lost her mom, but depending on how young she is, and I hate to say this, but it may have been for the better if she had BPD (I’m assuming you mean Borderline, and no BiPolar), because that’s some shit to deal with. My ex had BPD tendencies (fit most of them, except for being promiscuous) and she was friends with my nieces mom, which we always thought was odd since they lived about 2 hours apart, but they were around the same age and talked on Facebook a lot. My ex never hid it, it came out right after we started dating. Luckily I never knocked her up! If I’m reading this correctly you have full custody of her which is awesome, and it’s always great to have another parental figure around.
I end up writing books as well, I get too deep into something, and when I’m done, I’ll look up and be like “I just wrote 5 paragraphs they’re never gonna read this” but most of the time they actually do!
It sounds like you’ve had a hell of a life up until now, but things are finally starting too look up for you, keep your chin up, you got this 😉
I moved down to Miami 2 weeks ago, so things are going pretty good for me at the moment, I just gotta find a job, and tackle this life long insomnia. I just took 20 mg of Ambien and I’m still awake WTF… Usually 15 mg knocks me out whether I want it to or not.
