"If you’ve ever hosted a potluck and none of the guests were spouting antisemitic and/or authoritarian talking points, congratulations! You’ve achieved what some of the most valuable companies in the world claim is impossible."
Yep, it’s really as simple as “Why have a handful of markets, when we can have all the markets.” It’s so odd how it’s a combination of abject greed and total disdain for things like inclusivity, but they back it because money.
Seriously this was very surprising. I’ve been experimenting with GrayJay since it was announced and I largely think it’s a pretty sweet app. I know there are concerns over how it isn’t “true open source” but it’s a hell of a lot more open than ReVanced. Plus, I like the general design and philosophy of the app....
Or you know, use your collective power to strike, following the model your country has based its economic rights around. Why should the workers give up their economic power to the company?
Tesla could also just follow the economic agreement that is considered fair in the area for that labor, the bare minimum contract. So odd that youre not complaining about them having poor conditions and breaking the nation’s norms.
It’s almost like both parties, Tesla and the unions, are now working in their best financial interests. Lets see which on e succeeds.
Just heads up, mallards rape other ducks and fuck dead ducks so if you’re going to be oddly prudish about Nickleback hatred you should check your own username first.
How science textbooks in Texas address climate change is at the center of a key vote expected Friday after some Republican education officials criticized books for being too negative toward fossil fuels in America’s biggest oil and gas state....
I’ve driven through parts of north western Texas and the oil rigs everywhere really seem to enforce how much oil brings employment to the areas much like parts of Alberta. It’s barren, dry and hard worked over land that I’m not sure what else they would do with. Outside of the odd places with water holes like Balmorhea it’s just harsh.
Now I do get a serious evil vibe by this push to keep the public confused and focused on these issues versus what’s going on environmentally. If everyone is fighting over this crap that was already decided on sometime back, they can do whatever they want in these other areas.
IBM suspends advertising on X after report says ads ran next to antisemitic content::IBM’s announcement that it’s halting ads on X came a day after Elon Musk boosted an antisemitic post on his platform
Does anyone know what IBM was advertising on X? Were they trying to sell incels and blue check grifters consulting services for implementing a hybrid cloud strategy? Is there a WatsonX.ai girlfriend experience?
Even ignoring politics, it just strikes me as odd that they were putting any of their ad spend into trolling internet sewers. Shouldn’t they be sponsoring golf tournaments and Jeopardy gimmicks instead? (And if not, are they advertising on Twitch? Because I kind of want to see someone speedrunning Super Metroid take a moment to tell everyone about how IBM’s AI tools can simplify their supply chain management.)
I find it odd that people care about this so much. I personally don’t know anyone who uses the default messaging on their phones for communication. My messages app is just security codes and ads.
I like the concept but some of the answers can be really misleading.
Can be carried, is found in classrooms, not made of plastic, and inexpensive. None of that points towards a microwave for me. Microwaves CAN be carried I guess, but who has microwaves in classrooms? My microwave has plastic cowling on the front, and microwaves are like 70-100 bucks the last time I checked. Some of that is on me for the phrasing (does it contain plastic I guess should have been used, as an example) but it’s a bit odd.
He’s completely wrong too. Celebrating American, European, or general Western heritage is very commonplace, to the point that the US even has a holiday for itself. If that isn’t enough for someone, then odds are they’re just a fucking racist.
Most of the time, there’s a country or region you can celebrate the heritage of. The only exceptions are Jewish people and black people, but that’s because they had forced diasporas, persecution, and/or slavery. Their ethnic identity to a region was stripped from them.
Yeah, I listened to them on audiobook myself. Also about 6 of them, give or take, oddly enough. I have been doing audiobooks a ton the last few years, as I rarely have time to just sit down and read. Perfect for when you’re doing menial tasks that aren’t mentally engaging. Doing dishes, driving, going grocery shopping… audiobook.
I’ve been on the Dungeon Crawler Carl series lately which is another great series that’s also weird as hell. Weirder even than the Laundry Files by far. A half naked protagonist fighting for his life with his girlfriend’s cat in tow, meth head llamas, and a dungeon-controlling AI with a thing for feet, just to name a few things from early in the first book. And the narrator for Carl sounds a lot like Patrick Warburton. Thoroughly recommend if that sounds like your kind of thing.
I do wonder about that, Gen Z and Alpha are less tech savvy than millennials, so there’s non zero odds that it doesn’t work out because Linux isn’t easily accessible in the tablet/phone space yet.
Senior men have higher rates of suicide than average, and firearms were involved in more than three-quarters of those deaths in 2021, according to a CDC report
So you’re saying that if I wanted to suicide I won’t if I don’t have a gun. What an odd take.
its not that odd. pressing a trigger is much easier than hanging yourself or cutting yourself or jumping. this is a fact. plus many people attempt suicide and fail and some of them dont attempt anymore. with a gun the chances of not being successful are very low.
So you’re saying that if I wanted to suicide I won’t if I don’t have a gun. What an odd take.
Not just me, but everybody involved in suicide prevention. It doesn’t matter how unintuitive you find it, means reduction works.
Suicide is an impulse and when people have access to guns, they can act on that impulse in minutes, if not seconds. It’s painless and requires zero preparation time.
What other method even comes close?
You might have the tools to slit your wrists, but it hurts, it’s easy to get wrong, takes much longer than you’d think and sucks the entire time.
It’s also extemely difficult to seriously injure yourself on purpose. Most people have heard of “hesitation marks” but nobody has heard of “hesitation gunshots”, because they’re not a thing.
Okay, so what about hanging? For most people, step 1 is going to be Googling “how to tie a noose”, which will immediately present them with local suicide prevention resources.
So fuck it, lets head outside.
Maybe jump off something high? How long would it take you to get to a bridge or building that would definitely be fatal? Would you need to drive? Would you need directions? Could you leave without anybody asking where you were going? Once you got there, could you climb on the edge without being seen by passers by, all of whom will immediately try and help you or call someone who can.
And of course once you were looking out over the edge, could you do it? It’s terrifying and a very primal survival instinct will tell you to stop. Even once you jump, you’re still not arriving at oblivion faster than someone with a gun would.
Maybe you could overdose on something? The 90s made it look so cool. But of course, few people have fatal amounts of drugs just laying around and for most people, it’s far quicker and easier to go to a gun store.
So whats left? Shit that practically nobody does, despite the pro-gun community insist every suicide method is the same. People don’t gouge their eyes to get to their brain or feed themselves into a tablesaw.
This sounds like the terrible logic of banning abortion. If we ban abortion then women won’t have abortions. /S
No, it doesn’t sound like that at all, you just want to signal to others that you’re not right wing but still love guns.
But sure, we can stick with that analogy. Do women who aren’t pregnant still have abortions? Do they just find another medical proceedure to have instead?
No that this is sarcasm because legalizing abortion has saved many women’s lives
I never claimed they did not have one, that actually directly contradicts what I said in my comment.
I said they fucking suck at it, as in, are of very low skill and quality at performing the related tasks. Looking at their performance recently, would you say Mossad currently is functioning very well, and Israel is regularly getting all the intelligence it needs?
Additionally, Israel’s nuke program was very likely developed in partnership with other countries. It’s also not like it was some triumph for Mossad or something, giving them primary credit seems a little odd to me. Did the CIA deserve credit for the Manhattan Project?
Re-read what I said, and please pay attention to what I actually say, and let me know what you really think.
I am trying out Fedora for multiple unrelated reasons (use RHEL at work, new config, it might be more optimized) and I noticed a number of concerning caveats, even in mind with the fact that I already use RHEL:...
I think you are suffering culture-shock. The type of user and as a result the overall community around Fedora are far different than Arch’s, which I think might explain some of the pain points you have discovered. Not giving Fedora a pass here, they could do better (especially the missing Xorg issue), but to me it seems rather clear that your expectations and the way you started with Fedora are at odds with the majority of its users.
The AUR and the ArchWiki are phenomenal, and I don’t think any distro including Fedora can compete.
The launcher is a fair point. Though for me at least, not having the spotlight-esque search hasn’t been a problem. Appearance is an odd one, since the best part of Both Gnome and KDE is the wonderful flexibility in visual customizability. At the end of the day, I suppose I’d happily use either. Right now, I think Plasma’s big features for me has to be window snapping and, once 6.0 releases, hopefully HDR support.
That goes back to my point about the humble electron.
There are a ton of things moving in your body all the time regardless if you are sitting still of not. The only thing that I can think of that would be drastically impacted by instant cancellation of momentum is electrical signals. I admit, that is absolutely pushing the boundaries of what I know about physics at that scale.
Stopping every electrical signal in your body simultaneously and assuming it will just resume spontaneously seems odd to me, is all.
For example, I 3d printed a box over my outlet to protect my cables from my bed pushing against it. In addition, my cables never fall to the floor so they’re much easier to grab.

Streaming services decide what content and quality they offer to which Widevine CDM level. Although Widevine or Google, really, recommends what quality to offer which Widevine CDM level, though not everyone adheres to these recommendations.
L1, like I said, is the 4K holy grail. It’s the highest Widevine CDM level and as such enjoys the highest level of access. L2 is irrelevant. L3 is a weird one, Google recommends 720p for L3 Widevine CDM from Android devices, but 1080p for ChromeCDM, which is an L3 Widevine CDM shipped with Google Chrome. For some godawful reason, select streaming services allow 4K content for L3 Widevine CDMs, which is why one streaming service can have more 4K WEBDLs than another streaming service despite an identical content roster. Most streaming services serve 1080p content to L3 Widevine CDMs.
How can you get an Widevine L1 CDM, you may ask? For one, you can’t buy one, that’s always a scam. Sometimes, there’re leaks, but streaming services revoke these leaked CDMs quickly. You can break the Qualcomm Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) to get an Widevine L1 CDM from Android devices. But the TEE is a high-profile target for everything Android related, so chances are it’s not gonna happen. But this is what they want you to do. Instead, ignore the TEE, hack manufacturers and issue your own Widevine L1 CDMs, or steal Widevine L1 CDMs from freshly produced smartphones, smart tvs, etc. Alternatively, try to work yourself into a position where you can steal Widevine L1 CDMs. Or operate a legal business and become a Widevine L1 CDM issuer yourself.
Widevine L3 CDMs are a solved problem. Dump them from rooted Android devices. ChromeCDM requires software reverse engineering skills.
