@ldodds
From your list, I've only read "Shuggie Bain". I enjoyed it a great deal.
Currently, I"m in the middle of "Tom Jones", by Henry Fielding. I guess it's a book that I will be only able to read during vacation, since it's quite long and I don't think it is suitable for intermitent reading.
What do you think, is there such thing as "read-only-on-vacation" books? #llibres#books#bookstodon@bookstodon
Hey, I'm so honored to be here with the cool crew on the Beige Party Boat!
I'm not allowed to follow any more people until after 8PM, says whomever's dad is in charge of that kind of thing.
As a little intro, for those who don't know me: I am an avid reader and reviewer of mostly fiction. I really do love to learn about anything, so hit me with your area of interest/expertise. I love all the arts. I am a champion of democracy, rights and equity for all. I will post about politics, but also about my dog Baxter, my wife J, and odd happenings in my neighborhood, etc.
Every Tuesday, I post a curated list of new book releases which I believe bear consideration.
@kimlockhartga
Is there a hashtag you use for your Tuesday lists? I'm curious but having trouble finding it. (Sorry...my available minutes to scroll waaaay back are ridiculously limited lately.)
I have two children diagnosed years ago as being on the Spectrum. My partner has suggested I am probably undiagnosed. I feel like it may explain some things.
So some questions:
Does anyone know that there is a hereditary link?
For those who've been tested later in life, I am late 50s, how has it affected you to know? Interested in both confirmed and negative test experiences.
The #RomanceForMaui auction is live, until 3pm EDT on Monday August 21; the original goal was a humble $5K, but the current total is siting just shy of $62K, with 281 items on offer.
Friend and I have picked up on Lara Croft and the Guardian Light again! We made it past The Toxic Swamp tonight. I forgot how much fun this game was! Even after a decade this holds up in 4K.
Let's show ZUN our support for releasing his games on Steam and Comiket at the same time.
For years it really did seem impossible to get the series released in the west. We had to wait for a guy to go to the con and upload it, which would then get shared on DoujinStyle and the like. Nowadays Steam releases of Touhou games are more common and it's great to see.
I’m mostly an outsider to the whole Touhou phenomenon apart from enjoying the music but it’s always nice to see games that would otherwise be doujin only available through official channels. And on release, no less! Cool stuff for sure.
The lukewarm reviews don’t make it seem like a great entry on its own so perhaps not the best starting point for someone who’s casually interested but still, I’ll definitely take a better look later.
@neilhimself you know what else is magic?
Getting in your climate controlled coach, driving to somewhere 40 miles away and arriving about a half hour later, and all the while you listened to a symphony played by a 100 piece orchestra.
I admit it's not as magical as being moved by words written someone 1000s of miles away or centuries in the past, but it is pretty damn good nonetheless.
Here is a statement from a West Virginia Linguistics professor whose entire department has been eliminated. It provides additional context to the Provost's decision to cancel 38 majors and the tenure and untenured faculty lines associated with them.
@ChrisPirillo #1, also with the modification of Kraft superiority. No way would an Atari stick work as well for games needing either precision movement or that crazy back and forth that Epyx Olympic games required.
