This should be the last day of "isolation" due to the COVID. According to the CDC guidelines, if I don't have a fever after 5 days, I'm good to go. And I don't think I've had a fever yet, just a stuffy nose, some achyness, and general tiredness. Feeling about 90% today. I had to, of course, skip hockey but I am already looking forward to getting back on the ice on Friday. To be honest, my balky knee is probably very happy to miss a session.
Seriously, what really grinds my fucking gears is how Americans — especially American politicians — will refuse to see misery and suffering around the world as anything but in reference to #USA.
Israel-Palestine, the Rohingya crisis, the Yemeni crisis, Iranian state violence, Russia's genocide against Ukraine, Kashmir, and so on — these aren't fucking games.
Not everything revolves around your stupid, annoying, irritating elections. Learn to speak for yourselves and not in or as the tongues of your ̶c̶u̶l̶t̶ ̶l̶e̶a̶d̶e̶r̶s̶ ̶ favourite politicians. Practice universal empathy for all loss of life.
"These are real-world political issues, yet they have a stereotypically recognizable form and a predictable narrative content.
They in their turn also produce predictable reactions from public and politicians.
It is as if under cue that the public becomes outraged by some events and utterances, and worried, sending their ‘thoughts and prayers’ during other events.
At certain stages of the script, politicians feel compelled, or a proper tone requires them to express their opinion, while specialists are urged to explain the contents of the issue at hand (Thunström and Noy 2019).
There is thus a certain choreography to how asocial drama is being performed and mediated in the public sphere. The characters and circumstances in these social dramas change, but the plot and the performance remain schematic and stereotypical."
@academicchatter@politicalscience This paper DEAD-ON describes America, its politicians, its media, its coverage of international crises, and EVEN how its politically charged public (especially public figures, officials, and so on) RESPOND TO CRISES.
You can then imagine just how fucking frustrating it is to watch them treat us all like cartoon characters and TV show co-protagonists/antagonists. I'm not exaggerating, there is actual discourse into this phenomenon.

I thought I'd posted here with my latest chapter of "Skirmishes and Schisms" on #WorldAnvil.
Chapter 7 is out, and as Klor'asq finally meets those who thought he needed freeing, Ferrfeiss wonders if all the heartache and effort had been for nothing.
@neilhimself That's not something I'd thought about, but I can look into it, thanks. I don't drive due to chronic pain and live in the middle of nowhere, but maybe virtual groups exist.
In celebration of the birthday of @neilhimself here is the first page of the first of four one-issue short stories he penned as part of the Tharg's Future-Shocks series. This one is from Prog 488 of 2000AD, published on the 20th of September, 1986: "You're Never Alone With A Phone!" Script by Neil Gaiman with artwork by the late John Hicklenton and lettering by Tom Frame. #NeilGaiman#2000AD
@lwuy9v5 Yes it is KCD. I'm doing a hardcore, all negative percs, no kill run, so i basically have to use ways to kill without it adding to the kills stat.
I am thinking about autism this morning. Every self-assessment I’ve taken since I was a teenager scores ‘yep, that’s you’. (I have taken a LOT of self-assessments. Every few years I’ll go through a whole bunch, just to confirm.) But I don’t have a formal diagnosis. And even though I would never require a formal diagnosis from anyone else, I have still, for decades, struggled to know whether I’m ‘allowed’ to understand myself in this way or speak about myself as #autistic.
"The more I seek validation, the worse my life becomes, and the more I allow myself to be myself, the better I feel." I could say the same thing, honestly, about my own journey in life.
@cynaq@actuallyautistic Yes! This perspective is so helpful and relatable. This morning I went back and re-took the RAADS-R and the CAT-Q and the results are the same as they have always been - high. And there is my own knowing of myself that has also been the same since I was a teenager! So maybe it is time to claim/name this more openly, despite not having (or seeking) a formal diagnosis. <3
I quite liked Western Lane and If I Survive You, but gave up on This Other Eden after one chapter (which is very unlike me, but I just did not get on with it at all) #BookerPrize#currentlyreading#bookstodon
Well, thanks to the library I did end up giving everything shortlisted for #BookerPrize a go. #Currentlyreading Study for Obedience. Have heard a lot of criticism of the writing style, but so far I'm enjoying this quiet, eerie book. #bookstodon@bookstodon
HAPPY HALLOWEEN... AND (AUDIO)BOOK BIRTHDAY TO #CHAMELEONMOON!
Narrated by the incredible Kyle Rocco East (and me!) and containing two fully produced original songs, my first published book is now my first published #audiobook!
I can't even tell you how happy and excited (and tired) I am, but it's here! You can listen to all its entire-cast-of-queer-superheroes-surviving-fiery-dystopia-through-rebellious-hope-love-and-rock'nroll right now, with your ears!
To my incredible Kickstarter backers, and everyone here, thank you so, so much for following me on this incredible journey!
(Indie Creator Note: I am going to be QUITE shameless about promoting this for the next few days, and would ask very humbly that if you're reading this, Mega Please, Boost! No algorithm here, so we gotta be it for each other! <3)
As a running example, we recollected (as best we could) the New York Times articles used to create the well-known Dynamics of Collective Action (DoCA) dataset. We provide the document-term matrix and the metadata for the DoCA corpus here: https://zenodo.org/records/8415049
