Mine is entirely alt right “comedians” and helldivers 2. I’m pretty sure the algorithm thinks I wholeheartedly endorse the SuperEarth ideology.

FMEEE ,

No same I think it got extremely much over the last 1/5 Months

Mine is video games, guitar playthroughs, and fragments of bands I listen to performing live

DODOKING38 ,

Issue is if you accidentally watch one it will Keep getting recommended, it happened to me with the Dexter TV show.

Keep selecting don’t recommend this channel and maybe watch something else?

Mine is like 50% vids from people I mildly dislike and 50% Vtubers. I think there is really just not very much good short content.

Edit: To clarify, I’m not anti-Vtuber, I’m just not convinced that a 30 second clip from a livestream counts as good short content. The only high quality shorts channels I’m aware of are Tom Bates (who produces Nigel and Marmalade, a series about a tiny wizard and his dog-horse best friend) and Natural Habitat Shorts (funny animations about anthro animals, based on real animal facts).

xpinchx ,

Mines all guns and motorcycles lol.

My facebook reels are worse than that - endless girls shaken their boobs and ass at me. Most of them look extremely fake and enhanced with AI to make everything bigger. Often there will be a split second scene in the clip (too short to be caught by the censorship system?) of something pornographic. Seems like most of the girls have an Onlyfans.

I don't watch porn or browse thirst traps on instagram or anything. It's nuts.

Gingernate ,

But you sure watch them FB reels hahahahahaha

Thorny_Insight ,

There’s plenty of extensions to block shorts entirely. I’m on YouTube for a good reason. If I was interested in under 10min videos I’d be elsewhere.

elbarto777 ,

I just deactivated recommendations completely. If I want to watch something new, I’ll just use certain search terms.

Lazhward ,

You can also just block element with uBlock to get rid of it, no need for an additional extension.

usualsuspect191 ,

Lol that algorithm has you in that demo for a reason I’m sure. Not sure I would’ve asked this publicly.

Also, who’s is a contraction of “who is” or “who has”. You want the possessive “whose”

Bell OP ,

Ty for the grammar lesson, I corrected it

Not sure I would’ve asked this publicly.

At this point I think everyone knows that everyone else does the same thing.

GenderNeutralBro ,

Mine shows 90% videos from channels I’ve either subscribed to or at least watched before, and 10% random pop culture stuff.

Then again, I don’t actually use YouTube very much, and if I come across a video on Lemmy or wherever I never open it with a logged-in browser. Maybe I’ve inadvertently gamed the system.

Vilian ,

click on the non-horny ones for thom to stop suggesting it to you

carl_dungeon ,

Jelly- mine is all electronics, home building, and plumbers. Oh yeah, and a bunch of standup comedy.

It only seems to show me the same 15-20 shorts since they first started featuring shorts on the main page. They’re relevant to what I watch, but they’re all hella old and I’ve seen the ones that interest me already. IDK why it never updates.

andrew ,

I watched them mindlessly for a while, starting recently. But then the algorithm just started showing me like the same 15 videos and nothing else. One or two new ones here and there, but it’s definitely fully lost any interest I had.

mindlight ,

Do you run an adblocker like PiHole or ADGuard on your network?

Bell OP ,

I do have a PiHole. Why would that change the recommendations?

mindlight ,

I have no idea but I experience the same problem with small set of repeating shorts when on my home wifi network.

If I disconnect my phone from the wifi and use mobile internet instead, it often starts working better with YouTube Shorts.

Edit: my comment was about the set of shorts repeating and not why the algorithm choose sexy shorts for you.

randomname01 ,

Perhaps if their ad services (googleadservices.com, doubleclick) have something to do with it, but I frankly doubt it.

simplejack ,
@simplejack@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve found that shorts is pretty aggressive about serving up more of the same stuff if you watch something and don’t downvote it.
