Always projection when the US shouts about others doing the same.

themeatbridge ,

I mean, others are doing the same. We know because it makes it harder for us to meddle in foreign elections. And of course Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, they’re going to interfere with our elections as much as they can. President Trump was very good for them, and his voters are easily swayed.

apfelwoiSchoppen ,
@apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world avatar

It is a matter of scale, the US does it to grow and maintain hegemonic power and others react in kind.

JohnDClay ,

That makes it sound like you think that its only wrong with the US does it?

Welcome to Lemmy

Skua ,

It's like American exceptionalism for people that don't like America

apfelwoiSchoppen ,
@apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world avatar

No but there is a measure of who had caused the most harm for their own good. US #1

eran_morad ,

This is hopelessly naive.

apfelwoiSchoppen ,
@apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world avatar

Right back at you buddy.

eran_morad ,

You really think that for the entire duration of the russian empire and its successor states (to this very day) all those vassals actually had a say in their government? There’s no helping you.

apfelwoiSchoppen ,
@apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world avatar

Talking about the US.

eran_morad ,

others react in kind.

Jesus Christ, dude. The russian empire predates the American state. They’ve been subjugating client states for a long, long time. They’ve been undermining the free will of countless Eurasian peoples for centuries. And they’re more active in that arena now than they were back in the old days.

apfelwoiSchoppen ,
@apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world avatar

No need to be belligerent with commonly known facts. Still the 100+ year global hegemonic run of the US far exceeds the Eurasian hegemony of the Russian empire in terms of lives lost, economic impact, and ecological loss.

eran_morad ,

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Stalin alone killed some 20 million people. en.wikipedia.org/…/Excess_mortality_in_the_Soviet….

GBU_28 ,

Uh holomodor calling, as example.

apfelwoiSchoppen ,
@apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world avatar

The Holomodor is truly an horrific genocide of the Ukrainian people caused by the Soviets.

The US has perpetrated or backed the following genocides: The native American genocide The Palestinian genocide The Bangladeshi genocide The Guatemalan genocide The Yemeni genocide

Not even getting into the mass death caused by American sanctions.

“Everything that I don’t like is because of foreign intervention.”

Your country is racist, elected a racist. Take some time to self reflect on your history and own up your faults. Civil rights movement was 40 years ago, and it was very unpopular because you’re mostly racist. It didn’t change, it was just ready to erupt again, because your country is inherently racist.

Using “other countries do it too so we do it on a larger scale to more countries” is only defensible for wanks when you’re caught doing shady shit time and again.

you wanks have been using the same argument with supplying the genocide.

“iF wE diDnT, oTheRs wILl dO iT, sO iTs fiNe”

Have some humility and empathy for one fucking moment of your life, miserable cunts.

mean_bean279 ,

I always love when someone from a country with a homogenous ethnic and cultural background tries to tell me about how racist the US is.

Lots of strawmanning right here

Bonesince1997 ,

Hey, maybe stick to .ml. They like to ban conversation and put people in their place. That seems like the home you’re looking for.

SoJB ,

Sounds like you need a visit there as well, you’d do well to be put in your place. Liberal.

Bonesince1997 ,

Kaboom ,

What’s your opinion on the Romani people?

GBU_28 ,

Touch grass dude, no one is defending the US here, two things can be true at once.

NOT_RICK ,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

I was feeling an itch to quantify this list and look at the impact of recent elections as well. Here’s the tallies as I found them from the source-

USA- 58 interventions, 3 since 2000

Soviet Union/Russia- 38 interventions, 9 since 2000

China- 20 interventions, 18 since 2000

Saudi Arabia- 4 interventions, 3 since 2000

Iran- 4 interventions, 3 since 2000

Israel- 3 interventions, all post-2000

India- 3 interventions, 2 since 2000

France- 3 interventions, 2 since 2000

There’s a smattering of others with 1-3 interventions but these were the main ones.

The Vatican City having one was a highlight for me

apfelwoiSchoppen ,
@apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world avatar

The Vatican, another theocratic state instantiated by far right extremists. The Vatican as a modern nation state was formalized by Mussolini.

Zwiebel ,

The US’ glory days are clearly in the past 😔

NOT_RICK ,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

I’m happy to see most of the hypocrisy limited to the Cold War. Well, that we know of, at least.

Asafum ,

Makes sense, solidify capitalism globally and help crush any existing communist state. Jobs done so why continue I guess…

NOT_RICK ,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

My take is the blowback isn’t really worth the effort (Iran as a prime example) so they’ve mostly stopped, but maybe that’s just me hoping for a less cynical reality.

gravitas_deficiency ,
NOT_RICK ,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

‘20, but yeah, pretty much par for the course for the Trump admin. Great example of the blowback not being worth it, but that’s never stopped the CIA from trying some dumbass shit.

Kaboom ,

Remember, these are just the ones known publicly. There’s most likely been a lot that aren’t known publicly done by countries other than America

Russian disinformation campaigns are basically everywhere in Western democracies at this point, they're just hard to measure and to formally pin on the Kremlin directly.

jol ,

And you think American campaigns are not? Any big power is doing it.

aasatru ,
@aasatru@kbin.earth avatar

It's funny how Israel is routinely interfering in US elections, considering that they're just a well trained US overseas territory according to folks over at the .ml instances.

clay_pidgin ,

The most ethical instance in the world.

SoJB ,

What is this even supposed to mean lmao

Like, what even is the jab here? You people need to try harder than that, I know it’s difficult when logic is not on your side but I believe in you, honey!

cabbage ,
@cabbage@piefed.social avatar

I think it's unfair to the hard working people of the Kremlin to exclude any election featuring Geert Wilders, Nigel Farage, or Marine Le Pen from this list.

Skua ,

While responsible for more than any other country, they are not listed as responsible for a majority on that page. 57 out of 125.
