When I used to have a phone with a headphone jack and my car only had a radio/cd player, I always used it to get my phone’s audio into the car for navigation and music.

I do on a regular basis using the mobile from work. I use wired headset for 90% of the cals I make on this phone.

Addv4 ,

About once every other week on my phone, multiple times a week on my ipad (pro 10.5). It's more that I have a Bluetooth dac for some 30ohm headphones I regularly use, as my phone had more difficulty driving it at usable volume without going all the way up and getting the "you're hurting your ears!" warning.

Bluetooth is shite.

It can be convenient but also it constantly cuts out, disconnects, or the batteries die.

I’m not a big fan of headphones in general but when traveling I absolutely prefer wired.

When listening to podcasts while I work at home, I prefer Bluetooth because I can use only 1 ear without the other one flopping around.

themurphy ,

You must have shitty Bluetooth for some reason.

The only one I can relate to is you need to charge it. And that sucks.

TK420 ,

Yes, buy cheap shit, get cheap shit. BT headphones less than $100, be careful, probably gonna be bad. All of the sub $100 pairs I’ve bought have been junk, and quality greatly increases with price in my experience.

BearOfaTime ,

I have a 10 year old pair of noise canceling that were way less than $100. Battery is probably shit today though.

But you make a good point about quality. Gotta know what you’re buying.

Though my other sets were fairly inexpensive - $30-$50, and work well.

A LOT depends on the phone - using the same headsets across different phones has made that pretty clear.

TK420 ,

I didn’t think about phone BT quality too, that’s a good point.

I don’t have shitty Bluetooth. I’ve used a wide variety of high and low end devices for a dozen years and every one of them is a shitty experience.

I’m sure if you use shitty AirPods on a shitty iPhone it works great but I’m not about to do that.

themurphy ,

I use Bluetooth for 3 different speakers in my home, Bluetooth in the car, Bluetooth for headset and I don’t own AirPods nor an iPhone.

And I don’t experience your problems. But I’m also not mad at Bluetooth to begin with.

No one is mad at Bluetooth. We’re mad that we don’t have a 3.5mm jack for wired headphones, and were given nothing in exchange.

shortwavesurfer ,

I’ve used a headphone jack on my phone probably three times in the past two years. It is extremely uncommon for me to use it, and I would actually just prefer it not be there.

ZombiFrancis ,

I do. Specifically got an older samsung that still had it.

I dont like using bluetooth headphones in the office. Random disconnects for whatever reason is not something I need happening since tunes like ‘Marvin Sease - Candylicker’ is not office appropriate.

TwanHE ,

What application are you using that doesn’t pause on Bluetooth disconnect? I’ve never had the issue of audio playing from the device when the Bluetooth cuts out

Wrench ,

Definitely a bigger AUX problem since the same volume is typically used for the phone speaker and aux. Bluetooth is a separate media control.

lolcatnip ,

It shouldn’t be a problem at all, regardless of volume settings, if your phone is working correctly.

Wrench ,

AUX ports and cables wear out relatively quickly. And accidental cord pulls happen.

Seems like a weird point to dispute. The option for AUX is always a plus, but don’t need to sugar coat it like there aren’t drawbacks.

ZombiFrancis ,

Twitch app would do it occasionally but I think it had more to do with the earbuds I had last I tried a long time ago.

DrPop ,

Whenever I’m in the car I use it to plug my phone into the Aux port. I also like to play rhythm games on my phone and Bluetooth has too much of a delay.

captainlezbian ,

I use lightning cord headphones because using my hearing aids as Bluetooth all the time drains them and there are connectivity issues over random shit.

That said, yeah, it’s a minor annoyance that I don’t have an aux jack, and the waterproofing is more valuable to me

Incidentally using my hearing aids as headphones has started causing me problems because they autoconnect to Bluetooth and my upstairs neighbors have just gotten Bluetooth speakers. I need to find a way to make them stop connecting to those devices for my sanity

small44 ,

Only when my wireless earbuds batterie dies

ExLisper ,

I use it less and less. I was still using wired headphones quite often when I got my current phone couple years ago but since then I switched to BT in like 95% of cases. The remaining 5% is mostly travelling. Noise cancelling headphones are too big to carry and small BT headphones don’t have enough battery for a long trip. In a couple of years when I’ll be changing my phone it will still be be really nice to have mini jack in it but if there’s no reasonable option I might do without.

ever since I got a new phone with a headphone jack, been wanting to get a usb c to headphone jack adaptor, still dont have any headphones I can use with my phone

AnIntenseMoist ,

I use mine almost daily. I just like not having to worry about battery life. Quality on a $50 pair of IEMs is ahead of a $150 pair of BT Bose I got as a gift once, so that’s another plus.

For all those complaining about the wire snagging, I run it under my clothes. Barely feel it and it doesn’t snag anywhere now :)

I use a USB C dongle sometimes which works great, but mostly wireless these days

June ,

I’ve never liked or wanted a wire connecting me to my phone. It’s irritating and is a hugely negative stim for me, akin to nails on a chalkboard.
