XBannedx , in Steam Deck OLED Trailer

I have had mine since launch and this refresh is making me considering upgrading.

So glad I held off on buying one before. Now if I do decide to get one, I’m definitely gonna go for a beefy 1TB model.

Biggest improvement is probably the 30-50% increase in battery life. The deck already gets much better battery life than the ROG Ally or Lenovo Go (especially on low demanding games, it can get 2-4x the battery life), so this will further cement it as the best handheld PC for actually playing without the device plugged in.

That’s mostly because it’s significantly less powerful. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing, it’s just a different approach to mobile gaming.

I’m usually not far from a power cable/outlet, and I usually stream from desktop at home, so power consumption isn’t an issue for me, personally.

Fubarberry ,
@Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz avatar

I mean running the same game at the same settings/resolution/etc the Deck will get significantly better battery life. You can offset this somewhat by using task manager to close background processes in windows, but it still takes a lot more power to run stuff on the ROG Ally than the deck.

An example from Ally reviews was Stardew valley ran at 6-8w on the deck, but was pulling 16-20w on the Ally with same settings. Using task manager to close windows processes for the Ally down to the 12-15w range, but that’s still a huge jump. This isn’t even taking into consideration that you can tweak deck performance settings to run Stardew valley at a much lower power setting, I’ve seen people go as low as 3.8w giving them 10+ hours of battery life.

Yes, that is, as I said, because it is much less powerful.

I love my steam deck, I also just got it like 2 months ago. If I knew this was coming, I might've waited. Either way, my girlfriend is probably going to get a cool hand me down in the next couple months.

grabyourmotherskeys ,

When I purchased mine recently, I resigned myself to seeing them being given away for free later that day.

One reviewer mentioned disappointment that it’s still a full 11.7" long and 2" thick. I realize that some people are not built for that kind of size, but I enjoy the heft and find the ergonomics of the original pleasing. I find that it stands out among smaller equipment and any substantial reduction would limit the versatility and, quite frankly, my overall enjoyment.

I love the size of my current deck. In fact it is the coolest thing I own. But now I gotta get a new one lol

Also nice that the previous cases and screen protectors work.

Every other handheld tucks the right analog stick under the ABXY which makes it significantly less comfortable and way more difficult to use. Can’t believe NO ONE has copied that design. Yes, it’s bigger/wider but it’s well worth the trade-off for the ergonomics, personally.

overzeetop ,
@overzeetop@lemmy.world avatar

Indeed. I find having the interface with the flicking nub above where you just push in. It feels more organic; a more natural motion.

ProfessorOwl_PhD , in I tried to discuss the use of steam hardware security keys on google's top steam forum threads about the subject and all my posts were deleted and the threads closed. And I got a community warning
@ProfessorOwl_PhD@hexbear.net avatar

Jesus dude, you resurrected a 6 year old thread thinking it would still be relevent?

Anyway, you’re lucky you didn’t get banned for spamming - next time, make one (1) new thread about the subject instead of commenting on multiple dead discussions.

interdimensionalmeme OP ,

A new thread on an already existing and established topic is completely pointless.

It would not be visible in the first page of the search and it would just spread the information and focus around.

Those were the right place to post. And now they’ve all been destroyed by that imbecile of a moderator.

Everyone in the future searching for this topic will just hit a dead end.

ProfessorOwl_PhD ,
@ProfessorOwl_PhD@hexbear.net avatar

No, the reason they’re going to hit a dead end is because you tried to ressurect discussions that finished literally years ago - discussions started by now inactive accounts, replied to by people whose answer won’t have changed. You posted 4 TIMES asking people whose discussions had established there was no 2fa hardware support if there was 2fa hardware support - they had already said no, and you came in between 1 and 6 years later to ask again.

Instead of starting a new, visible discussion on the steam community, where topics are boosted by recent interactions, and it will be seen by the most relevent people, not just the randomers coming through google looking for the same answer as your, but for some reason you chose to ask people who have forgotten they ever needed help with this issue if they ever found an answer.

Lastly, I want to point out how fucking stupid and infantile it is that you’re not only asking the question again, but asking in multiple year old discussions: Steam has repeatedly said that Steamguard is their 2fa, and that’s it. Your “bu- bu- bu- i’m important i need hardware to stop evil hackers from targetting my vibeo gane” is absolutely irrelevent to them, a position they have not been secretive about.

wahming , in I tried to discuss the use of steam hardware security keys on google's top steam forum threads about the subject and all my posts were deleted and the threads closed. And I got a community warning

It’s almost as if the mods explained the reason for their actions! Unthinkable!

interdimensionalmeme OP ,

You’re missing the comment I left in there. Anyway, enjoy your google results leading to closed threads with no answers.

wahming ,

FYI, your comments were deleted. I’m guessing they’re only visible to you

interdimensionalmeme OP ,

I can’t see them either, they have been purged entirely. Now all thread major threads about security keys are closed and people who think security keys are about card trades(??) and how they don’t protect their precious cards have had the last word that it’s not important to them…

wahming ,

Can’t you just start a new thread?

interdimensionalmeme OP ,

It would never be seen by the vast majority of people, I don’t see the point of creating yet another discussion when there was four of them already going and were some of the top links on google for “steam login security key”

wahming ,

Google results are not static. If your info was useful it’d end up on top eventually

interdimensionalmeme OP ,

But there’s not going to be any info. All the people who had relevant information, came in from google, hit a closed thread and then left. There will not be a future conversation until the dead wood is cleared by a forest fire.

wahming ,

New. Thread.

sudoku , in I tried to discuss the use of steam hardware security keys on google's top steam forum threads about the subject and all my posts were deleted and the threads closed. And I got a community warning

Well stop necroing old threads.

interdimensionalmeme OP ,

I hope that words dies from our lexicon, what a terrible practice, shutting down discussion when it is the first result on google.
