Party on, Wayne!

Tronn4 , in RPG Maker XP is free to keep until February 19th

So Feb 19th steam will come to my house and delete my hard drive?

janNatan ,

Not sure if joking, but if you add it to your library before the cutoff date, then it’s yours forever - just like if you bought it.

seathru ,

“free to keep until” isn’t the clearest wording.

Tronn4 ,

Issa joke guy 👦

testeronious OP ,

yes, don’t open your door to steam

TheChurn , in HELLDIVERS 2 - Top 1 selling game in the United States

Loved the first one for fucking around with friends. I'll maybe pick it up after they add vehicles and we see a bit more of their long-term monetization strategy.

Zacryon , in Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition is free to keep until February 15th

Thanks a lot for the info! :)

testeronious OP ,

you’re welcome :)

I hope they fix the game fast man. I wanted to play with my brother, but had nothing but crashes and couldn’t complete missions. It ruined our gaming day. The next day I wanted to play but the servers were down for maintenance, haven’t had time to play it since and don’t want to till they fix it.

Coskii ,
@Coskii@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That sucks to hear. I’ve been playing a bit here and there, and other than a few post missions crashes haven’t had any major issues.

Thorry84 ,

My game had a total of 8 crashes in about 10 hours of gaming, so not great, not terrible. My brother had the game crash multiple times per hour. We later found out it’s probably to do with him having a 7900XTX videocard and Windows 11. We did try fucking with the settings a lot, tweaking everything we could think off, but nothing helped. We later found out the GPU and OS combination was broken for a lot of people. I was on Windows 10 with a 4070 Ti and it was a lot better for me.

We also had a lot of weird bugs, but that was kinda to be expected just after release. The biggest game breaking bug was the difficulty being totally off, choosing a medium mission and have the game actually be on suicide, or choosing challenging and have the game be on easy. But usually restarting the game would fix this bug. Other bugs were just annoying or funny, but not really game breaking.

I also put in the time to dig up an old 250GB SSD, so I could remove my normal drives and install a clean Windows 10 just for this game and it’s bullshit anti-cheat. After playing the game I removed the old SSD and plugged my regular drives back in, so my day-to-day system wasn’t fucked by kernel level crap.

Coskii ,
@Coskii@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That’s a lot. The worst I’ve had is like… Clipping through a rock or uneven terrain due to chargers being hilarious.

Static_Rocket ,
@Static_Rocket@lemmy.world avatar

7900XTX seems to be bugged in general with Helldivers 2. I get occasional lockups on linux as well.

Shard ,

Is couch/local co-op possible in Hell Divers 2? Its really one of the big things that sold me on the first game.

LapGoat ,
@LapGoat@pawb.social avatar

No couch/local co-op, you’ll need your own consoles and game licenses.

ech , in The top demos of Steam Next Fest (so far!)

Favorite for me was definitely Pacific Drive. It combined my inclination for being a loot goblin with surprisingly fun car repair mechanics, all wrapped in a contemporary supernatural vibe. I hesitate to call it Control-esque as that’s a GOAT game to me, but it has that similar attention to detail that I love about Control.

Honorable mentions for Lightyear Frontier, Star Trucker, Pepper Grinder, and Duck Detective.

Fiivemacs , in On now: Remote Play Together Fest!

Remote play is always a pile of laggy shit whenever we try it.

harald_im_netz , in The top demos of Steam Next Fest (so far!)

I really digged Dungeonborne and Indika. Also, Duck Detective and Diceomancer went to my wishlist.

I haven’t checked the settings, can I make my friends list the default window again?

Comradesexual , in Steam will no longer pop up at every startup if you use the latest beta

Best news this year.

infinitepcg , in Steam will no longer pop up at every startup if you use the latest beta

A related thing that annoys me, if you start Steam manually, it takes ~30 seconds to launch and it will steal your focus multiple times during launch. So annoying!

Gabu ,

Yeah, that’s really annoying - it steals focus once upon launching, another time upon loading and another time when the news popup opens.

domi ,
@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

I had the same issue and you can do this by editing your Steam shortcut and adding -silent to the arguments.

bleistift2 , in Steam will no longer pop up at every startup if you use the latest beta

Now can we get steam not opening when we launch a game?

JusticeForPorygon ,
@JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.world avatar

Please

bleistift2 ,

Pretty please

julianh ,

You mean just the UI popping up or steam itself? Because it’s up to individual games if they implement any steam drm, and if so how much.

vox ,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

steam is not a drm-free platform like GOG or Epic Games (some epic games games have additional drm, but most are completely drm-free and there’s no client-level drm at all like in steam*).
Most games use the Steam API to check stuff, so Steam client needs to be running.
(I’m actually kinda ok with steam’s drm btw, it’s not as intrusive as on some other stuff)

bleistift2 ,

I’m fine with the DRM. But why does the window need to open and take several seconds to “connect to the friends network” for a singleplayer game? This doesn’t need to be a blocking process.

wahming , (edited )

Would staying offline on the friends network help that issue?

mihnt ,
@mihnt@lemmy.world avatar

It doesn’t.

Sir_Kevin ,
@Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

There’s a setting somewhere to disable the friends list.

nix ,
@nix@merv.news avatar

Isnt this possible? I do it with blender. Just right click the icon of the game and pin it to your taskbar then click it when you wanna launch the game

Schmeckinger ,

That depends on if the game uses the steam API for something like drm. Then steam has to launch.

BleakBluets ,
@BleakBluets@lemmy.world avatar

Or the window popping up when you exit steam from the system tray just to show you “steam stutting down” and a spinning icon for 5 seconds.

MyDearWatson616 ,

Yes if you go to 20 years ago

keefshape , (edited ) in Steam will no longer pop up at every startup if you use the latest beta

Jfc. Thank you Valve!!! I have long since lost track of how many times I have sworn at Steam stealing focus on startup, usually when I am entering a keyring password or something.

vox ,
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

i usually just disable autostsrtup for basically everything that doesn’t need to be running for my system to work or productivity tools (like sharex and powertoys)

keefshape ,

I am coming at things from a different angle. Both being on linux, and having purposely added steam to start automatically.

Productivity for me, is having my workspace in the same state I left it – so I can pick up where I left off. That said, I also work in IT and put system and software updates at an equally high priority.

Having browser, terminal, steam (so it can be running shader cache or updates, if nothing else) are all restored to prior state then allows me to enable various unattended upgrades and even restarts during off hours.
