Hi there, I've been reading up on selfhosting for a couple of weeks now and I got my feet wet with a couple of things....
I want to host my website in my raspberry pi, I’ve read that I would need a web server software for this. Which one do you recommend? It won’t be a complex website.
I run my own small software development company and I’d like somewhere my clients can login and get access to things like:...
I have been trying to understand how the caching of content from other Lemmy instances works. From what I have gathered, the local Lemmy instance will automatically download and store posts made to any communities that are followed by users on the local instance....
I’ve been trying to figure this out off and on for months without any luck. This is my first homelab setup in a while. I have Proxmox running a few VMs, one is Truenas with some drives in direct passthrough. I also have a Proxmox container running Docker which is running a few things, Traefik being one of them....
Do you need a domain name if you are hosting a Lemmy instance, or will it work fine with just an ip-address + port (e.g. @:)?
Hi all, I’ve been in love with the idea of self hosting some essential services for my home and over the past year I’ve set up a domain, a thin client as a server and installed some docker containers that caught my eye....
I am pretty new to the whole self-hosted thing and want to ensure I have the latest security fixes even for my tiny instance....
I’ve added 2 external USBs of 2TB each to my Proxmox server and created a Resource Pool called USB_HDD containing both. I created an Ubuntu VM, but I can’t allocate all 4TB to it in one go - it only allows me to add each one as a separate SCSI device. When I start to install the OS it only allows the install onto one of the...
Has anyone self-hosting Lemmy found docs for the rate limit options?...
Hi! I would like to monitor accesses to my services done through my nginx setup that acts as reverse proxy....
Hey /c/selfhosted! Reddit refugee here with a couple questions on things I’m a bit uncertain about. I’ll try to keep it brief, but I can clarify anything that needs clarified....
How important is it to have something like coreboot for your firmware/BIOS on your router? I run pfsense on a mini PC router from aliexpress that has an Intel n100 cpu in it, so I guess the bios is intel as well. I self host a few things on an unraid machine, some apps are exposed to the internet through cloudflare tunnels.
I want to allow certain trusted users the ability to take down my lemmy instance or reboot it or x, y, z actions in case things go wrong or there is a security incident....
I’m fairly green at self-hosting, recently upgraded to running Proxmox on an old PC from OMV. A fairly simple setup for Plex, Nextcloud, PiHole, and some docker containers. I have an old Ryzen 5 2600 I’d like to replace the current CPU with (an even older FX-8350), but I’ll need a new motherboard with an AM4 socket....
Hi,...
I’m looking to replace the log book at work. I thought somebody must have made a simple docker container that allows someone to put in entries into a database for things like daily activities, guest logs, maybe even tracking fuel deliveries. Is there anything out there or and I going to need to remember how to make websites?...
I have a self hosted media server, and I want my family to use it more so I don’t have to do everything for them. I think the best way to do that is to have a wiki available on the local network where they can see a reference of how to use things. What is the best way to accomplish this?...
I'd probably have to go with Audiobookshelf and Kavita. Behind those would be Invidous and Immich.
Can anyone who has experience with both share a recommendation? I’m interested in the user side of things for ebooks (no comics) but also ease of installation and maintenance....
Posting this link here as I, personally am fixing to find this incredibly useful in a few hours as I’m about to do a full body transplant on my home server. Hopefully someone else will also find it useful.
Just picked up an APC 48u server rack. There were no pictures of it in the post and I did not notice until I got it home and set up, that the rack rails have threaded holes instead of square cage nut holes. I can’t seem to determine the thread size and pitch, and have a thread gauge coming. Until then, does anyone know...
This issue is already quite widely publicized and quite frankly “we’re handling it and removing this” is a much more harmful response than I would hope to see. Especially as the admins of that instance have not yet upgraded the frontend version to apply the urgent fix....
There are many DNS names options. Which one do you use?
