All guides to deploy using docker mention typing your keys/credentials/secrets into the docker compose file, or use a .env or similar file, I’m wondering how secure is this and if there’s a better option....
I’d like to swap my spinning disks with SSD drives. I have the new disks and they’re just larger than the old ones. My configuration is a RAID-5 with 3 disks (and one hot spare). Can I hot swap a single disk (HDD to SSD), wait for the new disk to rebuild, then repeat?...

As the title says. I build containers for my platforms/clients/myself-selfhosted@home and you would not believe how much smaller you can get your images. Here’s an example when slimming one of my images:...
Maybe this is a little bit off-topic. I would like to ask how you manage your dockerfile....

I have many services running under subdomains but my host domain still returns a 404 and im not sure what to put there.
Hello, I’m getting into self hosting and looking to setup a small home lab to play around with different technologies. I’m considering setting up a DMZ to keep my lab hardware separate from the rest of the network and other users. What is some of the minimal hardware required to do this on a small budget? Also what are some...
I need some advice on my NAS situation. I’ve got a hand-me-down QNap TS-453BU-RP that’s been working fine for the majority of the time I’ve had it. It’s for 4x2TB spindles and 2xM.2 SSDs. The M.2’s are on a PCI expansion card....
I have a number of services I’d like to host, and an old laptop with some of them set up and working on my network....
I’m not going to network anything. It needs to be flashed or whatever to reset it. Can it be used as a storage device, or maybe an emulator box? I’m clueless over here. Any advice and suggestions would be great. Thanks!
So, this is a rather odd request of a backup solution, but it’s kinda what I want right now....
Since Google is getting rid of my unlimited Gdrive and my home internet options are all capped at 20 megabits up, I have resorted to colocating my 125 terabyte Plex server currently sitting in my basement. Right now it is in a Fractal Define 7 XL, but I have order a Supermicro 826 2U chassis to swap everything over to....
I’m looking to upgrade my Plex and game server. I currently have an i5-4690K with 16 GB DDR3 and it’s struggling a lot. My PSU is a 850W gold rated EVGA from 2017 so I don’t think it needs upgraded quite yet since I’ve been way under the wattage for most of its life....
I have two systems that I need to replace. One is my backup server, which runs FreeBSD and uses some USB attached drives. Really that could be done with anything that is like a Pi, except amd64/x86....

This is a slow learning process for me and some of you already helped me a lot to figure out reverse proxies in general. However, I’m not there yet … so:...
I am in self hosting for a bit now, have an unraid server and a bunch of services running. Now I want to expose some services through a reverse proxy, but with authentication, preferably google oauth2. I’ve tried a lot of things, Authentik, Authelia, NPM, and so on. I found everything way to complicated. What I liked the most...
The question above for the most part, been reading up on it. Also want to it for learning purposes.
I don’t know if this is relevant, but it has to connect to the internet using the phone line...
I’ve got 1000/50 service from a mid-size ISP. It’s pretty consistent- any time I run a speed test from home, it will hit those numbers. I have an opnsense plugin checking twice a day....
Hi there,...
I’m thinking of picking up some parts or using an old laptop to host a few services, passbolt being one of them. I’ve seen that it requires an SMTP server though. Is this actually required? And would I be able to use this without getting a domain name?
