If you haven't seen the latest stream from HealthyGamerGG on autism yet, you haven't missed anything.

Of course a lot of autistic people will praise it, because he talks about how hard autistic people have it (or in his case "peope with autism", he even says directly that you're not an autist, but a person with autism in the video), but it's just a reiteration of the "standard informations" on the topic through a medicalised lense.

And while I'm at it, are you a "high functioning person with autism" or a "low functioning person with autism"? /s

@hauchvonstaub @actuallyautistic the mistake on most autistic documentaries is putting certain characteristics as low/high, i am very functional however i do have echolalia and other aspects that medical scene might put me as "high functioning", support labels is way better than functioning ones ngl

@actuallyautistic Just in case this is misunderstood, stimming used to be one of the factors to determine "severity" of autism and in the video, at 1 hour, he categorises autistic behavior into high functioning and low functioning, with the examples I've used in the poll.
As far as I remember, stimming isn't mentioned in the video outside of describing it as a low functioning behavior, without using the term stimming.

I swear to god, a bunch of the high-/low-functioning nonsense just seems to relate to how well you can mask & how dedicated to it you are. 🤦‍♀️

Funny way to categorize things... I can't hear a ping or similar noise I don't instantly need to echo (often out loud before I can stop myself!) and I can't actually hold still for more than a few minutes without getting terribly (and visibly) antsy, yet I also happen to have a job in an extremely specialized field that happens to align with my interests and people are quite happy to put up with my "weirdness" there. That's a pretty clear "both" then, I guess.
