I think the fediverse is having a naming issue too. Most people don’t realize Lemmy is basically just the forum days of old, but you can share your account everywhere. (yes the code is more complicated but the users don’t need to know that)
Not even that. I’m getting serious Usenet vibes (from the early 90s, not the thing it has since devolved into). Even the decentralized paradigm with independent servers syncing with each other is conceptually similar (although I’d bet NNTP was a quite different protocol than what we’re using now).

The neat thing is, you can add stuff like range checks and logging for getters and setters without changing every call. Separation of concerns is also vital in larger projects.
Had to tell our DevOps guy this. Nobody at my company knows how to keep their build tools let alone their OS up to date. WhY WoNt IT CoMPilE?? Maybe because you’re using a 9 year old maven version, buddy.
After like a 10 years of coding in everything except PHP I actually started missing PHP. Everything is so bloated nowadays and all the shit that gets thrown towards the PHP is mostly just a BS from those that either never coded in PHP or stopped coding before PHP 5.6.
Everything works if you know it well enough. But what I remember annoying me with php most was the naming convention mess, array_search, count, strlen, etc.
When I was a kid, me and my friend needed a blank disk. But we both didn’t know the DOS commands to delete or format a disk. So we got an old disk from his dad and rubbed a magnet over it. After that we put it in the computer to see if it was empty. Turned out it was not and DuckTales the DOS game was on it. Still a good day !
