SMH = Shaking My Head

It’s an Internet initialism.

Oh. Sorry about that. Text is not a good medium for tone. xD

Not just OSX: anyone using WSL on windows is an offender too

But as a WSL user, dockerised Dev environments are pretty incredible to have running on a windows machine.

Does it required 64 gig of ram to run all my projects? Yes. Was it worth it? Also yes

qwop ,

My experience using docker on windows has been pretty awful, it would randomly become completely unresponsive, sometimes taking 100% CPU in the process. Couldn’t stop it without restarting my computer. Tried reinstalling and various things, still no help. Only found a GitHub issue with hundreds of comments but no working workarounds/solutions.

When it does work it still manages to feel… fragile, although maybe that’s just because of my experience with it breaking.

desmaraisp ,

You can cap the amount of cpu/memory docker is allowed to use. That helps a lot for those issues in my experience, although it still takes somewhat beefy machines to run docker in wsl

Mermitian ,

I’m even worse, I have used wsl in a windows vm on my mac before haha

A photo of an opened semi-trailer unloading a cargo van, with the cargo van rear door open revealing an even smaller blue smart car inside, with each vehicle captioned as “macOS”, “Linux VM” and “Docker” respectively in decreasing font size. Onlookers in the foreground of the photo gawk as a worker opens each vehicle door, revealing a scene like that of russian dolls.

I almost missed the Spanish upsidedown semicolon

¿Wait what?

In Spanish we open and close all quotations. Like:

  • ¿Tienes cambio? (do you have change?)
  • ¡Me encanta! (I love it!)
tchotchony ,

I don’t speak Spanish at all, but I really wish more languages would adapt it. It’s so much easier to interpret a sentence knowing it’s meant to be a question or exclamation right from the start.

Not writing unit tests just isn’t an option for a reliable app in the long term. But, it’ll take way more than 10 minutes, always.

simple , in Job interview vs job
@simple@lemmy.mywire.xyz avatar

The difference is, in the job interview you’re writing it from scratch yourself. On the job you have to take over from the guy who left 10 years ago and that button was designed in such a way that resizing it will add garbage data to all tables in the database and also send an email to all your customers telling them to switch providers.

I hate Paul…

I made it up to rule 25 and then Paul starved because I was thinking too long about which characters to ban.

To make it over Rule 24 (Paste the URL of a Youtube video with a certain random length), I even created a video with the correct length and kept uploading it to Youtube to get a URL without roman numerals and decently usable atomic weights.

When I tried it again after that dumb chicken starved, I hit Youtube’s maximum daily upload limit. Now Youtube thinks I am a spambot or something.

Btw, there are 35 rules total, in case anyone else makes it over 24. And spoiler, the one that got me doesn’t matter at all. It’s one of the easiest of all.
