You know a few who aren't to you. You also know a few who know a bunch who are definitely abusive cops. Cops who allow abusive cops to continue policing are bastards.
Even beyond that, the very system that protects cops over the public and avoid scrutiny ensures no cop can actually be a good cop. Good cops get fired or have "accidents" on the job. That's why all cops are bastards: they can't not be in a system like that.
Newell said she threw Meyer and the Record reporter out of the event for Republican U.S. Rep. Jake LaTurner event at the request of others who are upset with the âtoxicâ newspaper. On the townâs main street, one storefront included a handmade âSupport Marion PDâ sign.â
It's because of this I have the feeling that the court magistrate (and the sheriff for that matter) are likely to be re-elected regardless. This is MAGA country and they don't care about the things their side does so long as their side wins.
Meyer said he has been flooded with offers of help from press freedom groups and other news organizations. But he said what he and his staff need is more hours in the day to get their next edition put together.
Both he and Newell are contemplating lawsuits â Newell against the newspaper and Meyer against the public officials who staged the raid.
What happened is terrible, and he and the staff must be in so much pain right now, but this is Meyerâs opportunity to step up and tackle the bigger issue vs focus on whatâs happening to him.
A small local paper can miss an issue if it means making a national point about the abuses that allow small-town overreach to occur. If theyâve never missed an issue before, that even becomes a positive in court. If he doesnât accept the help, and doesnât file lawsuits, this will be a distant memory.
It will be like heâs in an abusive relationship with the local government. âThatâs just how they are, but Iâm getting to do my thing now, so oh well,â and the abuses there, and everywhere, continue. I truly hope thatâs not the case.
