2 police officers under investigation after they were recorded beating a man with batons at a bus stop

Two Seattle police officers are under investigation after a bystander recorded them beating a man with their batons at a bus stop last week.

In the video, which was posted online and first reported by NBC affiliate KING 5-TV, two officers can be seen hitting a man with their batons last Friday afternoon. In the 40-second clip, one of the officers appears to grab the man’s hair before he uses a knee to pin him down.

The video does not show what occurred before the officers started beating the man.

Add another few years to the Consent Decree order, I guess. I am also going to guess the oversight committee will recommend (that is the extent of their power) the officers be fired and SPD and SPOG will do nothing while complaining that everyone unfairly hates them. SPD is the department that hired an officer, Kevin Dave, that was fired from another department for reckless driving. Kevin Dave thought going 75 mph downtown to get to a scene was a good idea and he struck a 26 year old pedestrian and killed them. SPD gave no punishment.

SPD gave no punishment.

“She had limited value”

This is why body cams are essential. So now one of two things will happen. They’ll either release the footage and it’ll show that this man threatened to detonate a huge bomb and destroy the city and the cops had to beat him to stop it and everyone will praise them, or the footage will be lost and we’ll all assume they beat the shit out of him because they felt like it.

I’ll hold my breath.

Threatening to detonate a bomb would not justify what they did. I can’t imagine a scenario that would justify grabbing someone’s hair and pinning them down with a knee and beating them with batons.

SkyezOpen ,

Yeah I’m being an incredibly facetious devil’s advocate saying the only way to save the city is to beat the absolute shit of of a dude.

Tujio ,

I’m not going to give Seattle PD the benefit of the doubt. They have a long history of violent abuse, especially towards minorities.

Potatos_are_not_friends ,

Like that time a Seattle cop ran over a 23yo Indian girl and said it was okay, because she had limited value?

Tujio ,

Or when a cop punched a 16-year-old girl in the face for yelling at him.

Or when they beat up an old man for getting on a bus with a golf club he was using as a walking stick.

Or when they beat up a guy while yelling “I’m gonna beat the Mexican piss out of you”

Or when they shoot a native dude in the back from 20 feet away because he had a small knife.

Remember folks, 2a was made for one specific purpose in mind.

So were police, somehow they’ve stayed the course.

barsquid ,

I think police were maybe more created to transfer the cost of protecting wealthy people’s property to the public and they are doing an okay job of that to this day.

Police in America came from slave patrols and union busting efforts. Their militarization began only in relatively recent decades, but even this is only a continuation of existing trends. “Protecting property” is just the tip of the spear of the overall class warfare operation that they represent.

This poor guy is probably going to live. Do you think that would have been true if he had gotten into a shootout with the cops?

So we could have a well regulated militia in lieu of a standing army, right?

All citizens should be encouraged to watch the vid so we can rejoice at how safe and well-protected we are.

I’m overjoyed and sure feel much better.

lolcatnip ,

I’m from Seattle. I don’t even need to watch it to know the police here are murderous thugs.

Now there’s some irony for you.

Hope these cops get heavier sentences than the LAPD did back in the 90s.
